COLUMBIA, S.C. Police are pretty certain the well-kept middle-aged woman with the dolphin tattoo on her leg came to Myrtle Beach to die, but they can't figure out who she is.
Her fingerprints don't show up in any criminal databases, and she doesn't match any missing persons report from across the country. She left behind no car to be discovered, no bag unclaimed on the beach or in a hotel room. Officers took her photo by dozens of places where homeless people congregate in the area, but no one recognized her.
-----
A tourist on a balcony spotted her bobbing in the waves around 8 a.m. on the south side of Myrtle Beach.
-----
Police think she intended to commit suicide because cuts were found on her wrists, although she died from drowning. Blood was found in a public bathroom about a mile down the beach.

Until that day, the body found off Myrtle Beach will remain in the morgue. She has been embalmed, so she will be ready to go home whenever authorities figure out who she is.
LINK CLICK Fowler is awaiting toxicology results to determine if she had alcohol or drugs in her system, because he said killing yourself by drowning is hard. The body possesses a natural instinct to survive and most people would need to be intoxicated to overcome that, he noted.
Thank you, FigTree, for finding these articles and posting them. I've been trying to find out who this woman is for the last 5 months.
The cuts on her wrists are new information. Why didn't they report this in the beginning?
I'm still not convinced she killed herself. This woman took care of herself! Most depressed people could care less how they look. It just dosen't make sense to me!

Not true. I'm depressed and have suicidal tendencies and I take care of myself. We've seen several UID suicides (Lyle Stevick, Annandale Jane Doe) who were very well taken care of when they committed suicide. Your assumption that those of us who are depressed don't care about our outward appearance is wrong and ignorant.

One of the angles that I have been exploring is that our UID may be the relative of someone else who has drowned there at the beach. However, I must admit that cutting the wrists first kind of makes that less likely.
I've seen it reported many times that it is very difficult to intentionally drown yourself. The body has a natural instinct to survive. So, usually people will jump to their death off a bridge or drink heavily or something along those lines to make it less likely that they will survive.
I wonder what our UID's blood alcohol levels were.
Seeing as how her wrists were supposedly slit I wonder if the scratches on her neck have to do with attempted suicide as well..

I wonder/hope that somewhere the alcohol level details are made available - or more of the story comes about. I'll keep an eye out.
I also wondered how long it was before Police discovered the blood in the bathroom?
Did they get dogs to trail her blood scent to the beach?
Was there a blood trail?
LE didn't say how long it was before she (allegedly) entered the water after the blood was found.
The other thing - it was dark in the early morning when they think she must have entered the water. They estimated she had been in the water for 5 hours before she was found. That would make it about 2.00-3.00am.
It seems strange that she would be dressed at night/2.00am in her bathing suit in a public bathroom. Someone must have noticed her.
Did someone find her and put her in the ocean?
I wonder what else about the lady hasn't been released details wise.
People who commit suicide rarely do things that make any sense to others.
This is just one article that lists "poor personal hygiene" as a symptom of depression. There are thousands like it:

I will stand by my previous statement!
Would be interesting to know how those scratches ended up on her neck. I wondered that and thought it could have been from rocks, stingers, debris in the water, her rescue, the pot mortem process...
They don't seem to be very deep.
I wondered if they even may have been inflicted by somebody else, now
But, I don't really know.
