There was a mod post explaining that the POI declaration info came from an anonymous source so it's not allowed here.

No, by WS standards, he is not considered a POI at this time.

I strongly suspect that Crime Online used FITSNews as a source at the time . FITSNews (June 9, 2021) had attributed the POI status to unnamed LE sources. LE and no other MSM has ever stated that Alex Murdaugh is a POI or suspect and attributed it to any identifiable law enforcement source.

Crime Online may have different standards and of course they are entitled to, but the above is why FITSNews is not approved as a source at Websleuths.

The latest news report above says he called 911 himself. It's apparently not a life threatening wound.

He saw the men who shot him - 2 men, police found at least 10 casings at the scene.

Ten shell casings and they only grazed him? I’d say pretty bad shots or not serious about killing him. JMO
Exactly.
I thought to myself: "What? Are there a couple 10 year olds with bad aim shooting people on rural roads??"

10 casings....

On the vehicle no bullet holes yes no? No shot out windows yes no?

Was this a warning shot across the bow? Or is this an AM cover up?

Alex Murdaugh 'conscious and speaking' after being shot in the head in Hampton County

Something I woke up thinking about, if this was a “grazing” not sure why he needed to be airlifted to a major hospital.

When I heard he was airlifted, I thought the bullet was in his brain.

Did I understand correctly, that both men were shooting or were there two men and one did shooting?

Some stories have said they were in a truck and other places said car. Do we know for sure?

MOO, but the 10 casings might not just be from the attacker(s). I would be more surprised if AM wasn’t carrying his own weapon for self defense than if he was. He just lost his wife and son to a violent murder, and he has a hunting property which would imply he’s familiar with firearms. For him to choose to arm himself for self defense and have the ability to return fire would make sense to me in this case. That would easily explain the amount of shots fired and that AM would survive the attack.

Good post. I agree.

That's a very good point! What hand gun holds at least 10 rounds? If a vehicle drove by, turned around and fired as they drove past again, there was no time to reload, so either two shooters or a gun that holds at least 10 rounds (I'm not familiar with guns so have no clue what type of gun holds that many rounds).

BBM- Tons

The kind that i mentioned are usually 22 or 25 caliber with clips that hold 5 maybe 6. They are short and common defense arms due to size.

I don’t get why LE hasn’t rushed to get the description of that truck out there. Presuming there are shooters on the loose.

I'd be very surprised if he were shot with a .22 and I'd be absolutely floored if he was shot with a .25 ACP.

I agree about the truck description

He gave the officer his health ins card? Did I hear that right? 1:09

Yes, you heard that right. The officer says, "umm, that's your health insurance."

I posted truth regarding a case where 200 shell casings were picked up right outside a vehicle with two occupants in the front seat. The front side windows and windshield both shot out. The driver was not hit at all, and the passenger was killed by a single bullet.

Most shooters of pistols are terribly inaccurate. Add a moving vehicle and accuracy declines. Those shooters in the aforementioned case weren't driving by, they were standing directly around the front of the vehicle, shooting in to it through the windshield and side windows.

Why would a targeted hit include a vehicle turning around? Did they drive by to ensure it was only him in the car? Otherwise, why not pull right in behind him and do the deed?

Why would a targeted hit not include stopping, getting out, and ensuring the victim is shot dead?

Why would a targeted hit be planned for the side of a road where the risk of being seen by other vehicles could not be controlled?

How would a targeted hit know his vehicle would be disabled due to a flat tire? Did the assailants shoot out the tire?

Did some yahoo's drive by, recognize him, turn around, take shots at him while driving by the other way? Someone unrelated to the other family murders? Or some inexperienced 'hit' men that loused up the entire thing?

Did a couple of locals see an opportunity to take out another Murdaugh, a random, spur of the moment decision?

Why was he taking this route to Charleston?

Can't discount road rage either. I'm not saying that's what I think happened, just that it's a possibility. There are crazy people out there. Hell, look at the Damion Tillman, Kevin Springfield and Brandon Rollins case and how fast that escalated

When I went to this link the still for the video shows a black SUV on right shoulder and what appears to be LE and their vehicles clustered around to left.

If the black SUV parked on right shoulder belongs to AM he didnt park very far off the road if he was planning on a tire change. That said, perhaps the tire was passenger side.

I guess I’m picturing the flat on driver side because AM didnt have protection of car between him and shooter.

Only my musings. JMO.

Only Truman Capote could write this story and do it justice. It doesn't get any stranger than this. o_O

I see an arrest coming in the next few days.

<modsnip>

Griffen his lawyer said AM called RM around 2:15. Fire Rescue guy told The Island Packet they were called to the scene at 1:30.

This was my gut reaction at first reading this. But I’m not married to the idea, just feels like yahoos. Could also have been part of plan. ;)

From what I have read, AM called 911. Then he called one of his closest living relatives and closest friend - his brother. His brother called one of their very good friends who also happens to be an attorney. I, unlike many on here, don't see anything nefarious in this. Who would you call? <modsnip>
Ghostbusters!!

Wonder where the BOLO for the truck is? Would he not be able to give a rough idea of the truck? You know, are we looking for a blue truck, or a red truck?

From a mathematical stand point, the hit / miss ratio was probably about average- especially if the intended victim suspected an imminent attack and was running himself.

Drive bys, whether in urban Chicago or rural South Carolina produces far more misses, grazes and lightly wounded occasions than fatalities. In the end, hitting a target while moving is difficult, even before human factors such as rage or nervousness. If the target is also moving, the math moves even more in the victim's favor.

Update as of Sunday morning: Murdaugh’s lawyer corrected himself — stating that Alex Murdaugh was airlifted to Savannah Memorial hospital, not Charleston as he previously said.

Can't agree more. I think people have seen too many movies

Hi everyone ! This is my first post here sharing my theories ☺️ But I've been a long time lurker.

theory 1: the shots were not intended to kill AM but intended to warn him. Perhaps someone does not want him to speak about something. Maybe he is aware of who killed his wife and son & whoever that person is would like to shut him up or someone involved in the Mallory Beach case wants him to keep quiet on something. This could include law enforcement or extended family, etc

Theory 2: The person did intend to kill AM, also in regards to keeping him quiet for something but just like we saw in the Vallow/Daybell case they ended up being a really bad shot while driving. I think it makes sense they would drive by first so that they could wait for AM to exit the car and then once he did turn around to shoot him.

Theory 3: same as theory 3 but instead of motive being to keep AM quiet the motive is to continue to take out the family in response to their past wrong doings.

Other possibilities are random shot or perhaps that he planned it toward himself but those are incredibly low on my list.

thoughts ?

I've seen this a few times now so I'm guessing AM's lawyer actually said it...

Murdaugh's attorney Jim Griffin told the Island Packet the widower had been on his way to Charleston hours before the shooting, but had 'car trouble', and stopped.

So hours before the shooting AM was on his way to Charleston? The shooting happened in Hampton County. Is Hampton County that big it takes hours to gets through on the way to Charleston?

Did he perhaps stop somewhere before he left Hampton County and that's where someone followed him from? Or do you think it was a totally random, spur of the moment attack?

My mind is still reeling from this event, so much to consider.

Welcome aboard @nighttimesleuth.

I don’t know how I feel about this being a bad shooter as we are talking 10 shots here. The injuries will tell more obviously.

Why do I picture this guy driving like a "76" Lincoln Towncar?

Lol, You are thinking of the Lincoln Lawyer. Ha!
Matthew McConaughey he is not!

Who will research AM model of Mercedes and see if it has run flat tires. ???
