GUILTY SD - Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg, involved in fatal car hit and run, Sioux Falls, Sept 2020 *plea *Impeached*

Ravnsborg does not seem like the kinda fella that would resign for moral issues. If they do not upgrade charges he is smiling all the way to the bank. I do know people who decided to go into politics..it is lucrative and you have status. Nothing to do with ideals..well not much..it is employment...a career choice. Moo

This Pic. When & Where?
image1.jpeg

.
@nells sbm Thanks for post w this pic.

Anyone - when & where was this pic taken? It's daylight, does not seem it could have been taken on night of accident. And if car was towed elsewhere, was it towed back to crash site? Why was car put in traffic lane of roadway? Any roadway? Looks like a highway patrol vehicle parked 'wrong way' on shoulder in opposite direction. Was roadway blocked for purpose of investigation or crash reconstruction? TiA.

Sorry if already discussed. So far I've only listened to ~10 min. of the 2+ hr interview vid, so have not learned much re crash reconstruction.

During his interview, they asked for possession of the car which was in the tow lot so that they could do skid tests back at the scene of the crime. He signed the papers during one of the interviews we watched. I believe it was the first one. This is a photo when the car was taken back to the scene.

Impeachment Process Begins:
“Lawmakers argued in the impeachment resolution that Ravnsborg should be removed from office for “his crimes or misdemeanors in office causing the death" of Boever.

The resolution also stated that Ravnsborg’s conduct following the crash was “unbecoming” and his “statements and actions failed to meet the standard” of his office.

It would take a simple majority in the House to advance the impeachment charges to the Senate. There, it would require two-thirds of senators to convict and remove him from office. State law requires senators to wait 20 days from when the attorney general receives a copy of the impeachment charges before beginning the trial. Noem would get to appoint a replacement if Ravnsborg leaves or is removed from office.”

We may not agree, but it is hardly the first vehicular homicide that is settled with a wink and a handshake deal.
Inviting the Nightmare

Stallworth received a 30 day sentence for a DUI that killed a man.

True. JR is not the first to get away with a slap on the wrist. But as far as outrage goes, I can’t equate an NFL slap with one for a state Attorney General. Public trust is very important. Integrity of public officials is very important. I’m very glad impeachment has begun. There’s just a whole ‘nother higher layer of injustice here. Imo

Because of the gag order, there is no new info on the case. But the Dakota Free Press offers some info on the person JA asked info from regarding phone "transmissions."

Legislators to Test Gag Order in Wednesday Hearing; Video Indicates Ravnsborg Used Office to Get Technical Info for His Defense

Just the highlights: "[A]t 2:02:00 in the September 30, 2020, police interrogation ... One of the North Dakota investigators asks Ravnsborg about his own division’s cyber crimes investigation resources. Ravnsborg says he asked “Gromer” about “how phones work and how they transmit and such…. I just asked him, well, how do things work, how fast do they transmit, what will get held against me....
... Jason Ravnsborg asked a state employee under his supervision to provide him with information that he could use in preparing his defense in a potential criminal trial.”

Unbelievable. This guy should be disqualified from holding public office, Man God or not.

I wouldn’t frame today’s developments as a setback. Waiting for misdemeanor sentencing/judge’s ruling protects the state. The “if” special session part is not worded in a way as to recoup the public trust lost by JR. Poorly phrased imo. We’ll see...

From your link, paraphrased...
Rep. Will Mortenson’s (R-Pierre) House Resolution to impeach JR was watered down with a procedural amendment preventing the Legislature from considering impeachment until after the criminal case is resolved... AND if ⅔ of the House & Senate choose to convene a special session.

The ⅔ better convene unless they don’t care about reelection, imo. Lots of scrutiny on this. Again, mo.

Does anyone know why Ravnsborg’s initial court appearance is being held in Hughes County when the incident occurred in Hyde County?

Ravnsborg's lawyer criticizes Gov. Noem for releasing information in AG's criminal case

"[Ravnsborg's] been treated worse in all of this than anybody else would have been, just by virtue of his position,” Rapid City lawyer Tim Rensch said this week. “What in the world is going on here? Why is this person being treated unfairly and being treated differently than anybody else?”

Ummm...
Keywords: “by virtue of his position”. I think Gov Noem is just trying to get some virtue back into the AG position. Imo

Just thinking that "anyone else" who killed a person, drove away, fleeing scene of accident, without calling police, would already be in jail, eating bologna sammies, in an orange jumper with shower shoes.

I wonder if anyone has followed up on how much alcohol was served at the fundraiser...what type, and was it an open bar, or cash bar?

I'm just as disappointed as anyone that JR isn't getting more serious charges. But your statement doesn't reflect the actual facts. He did not actually flee the scene. He did make a 911 call. It was made from the scene. And it was made at the time of the accident. The recordings of that call were released. The sheriff did respond to the scene. And they did perform a - what must have been a less then rudimentary - search. But to the same point you were (inaccurately) attempting to make, ...anyone else that was on their phone and not paying attention to the road, who happened to accidentally run someone over & kill them, would have already had their time in court and would most likely already have started their jail sentence. The way they're running this whole "investigation" & "prosecution" just stinks to high heaven.

Okay, for some reason, I thought that he waited until the next day. Not sure why I thought that.
