South Dakota attorney general objects to cameras in court at his trial

"...A court document recently filed on behalf of Ravnsborg objects to cameras or audio recordings during his trial, which is scheduled to start Aug. 26..."

Just gonna repeat myself, here....

From the article:
"Did Ravnsborg join the youngsters at the bars? I am told by people who know him that he rarely drinks. Let’s hope he wasn’t the designated driver."

I am very interested in how much he had to drink the night of the accident. And, does anyone think that, maybe, the prosecution won't look too hard for this information?

Sorry, but this entire situation seems to be way too "incestuous". Meaning, the defendant knows too many of the players here. It seems to me that there should be a completely independent investigation, by an outside party, like the FBI, for impartiality. And a special prosecutor, not a local. I am not even sure about the judge either.

Incestuous is right -- beginning with that Sheriff. He did not follow proper procedure at all. Ravnsborg was treated preferentially, with kid gloves. The Sheriff should be prosecuted. (IMO) Ravnsborg could have been under the influence of a substance at the time of the incident (I don't even like to call it an accident -- "manslaughter" would be more accurate) -- didn't have to be alcohol. Public will never know because he was not tested until many, many hours later, to ensure that the results were "negative." I think this Ravnsborg is the poster boy for "Crooked Politician." (All my opinion only)

Thia guy is apparently Teflon. For you youngsters, Teflon was the very first effective non-stick surface that was food-safe, for the first non-stick pans. Most things just slide right off....

It seems incredible, given the charges against him and the attempts by statewide officials to get him to stand down.

It also seems like being elected to "leadership roles" may be useful in arguing the merits of the man if not of his case at trial.

Which is additionally sickening in an already sickening situation. I feel for the family of the deceased, who seems (to this distant reader) to have become a sort of sidenote in this case, even for the crusading journos keeping it in the news.

Jason Ravnsborg says the man he ran over and killed was suicidal and may have thrown himself in front of the car.

South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborgis claiming the man he ran over and killed—allegedly while scrolling through his phone on highway at night—wanted to die.

In court documents filed Friday, the state’s top lawman claimed victim Joe Boever was depressed and suicidal and may have thrown himself in front of his car as he drove home from a Republican function on Sept. 12.

If I was this guy's family, the civil lawsuit would already be pending.

That is the lowest creepiest defence I have ever heard. Moo

That's major blame-the-victim there. Didn't believe I could have a lower opinion of Ravnsborg, but certainly do now.

THIS IS HORRIFIC what is stated in the documents.Trying to bring into the court of opinion what is NOT ALLOWED (a la Aubrey case in Ga which they tried also)

"In court documents filed Friday, the state’s top lawman claimed victim Joe Boever was depressed and suicidal and may have thrown himself in front of his car as he drove home from a Republican function on Sept. 12.

Ravnsborg’s lawyer, Timothy J. Rensch, is seeking a court order that would force health-care providers to release Boever’s psychiatric or psychological records “for exculpatory information concerning his suicidal ideation.”

What a bunch of manipulation of a narrative for a body that came through your front windshield to leave glasses in the car.. and you didn't see such? *(&(*)(**& is my reaction reading this nonsense of third party stuff trying to come in through non-allowed stuff for trial.

This is a political front of fallacy yelling SQUIRREL!!! (look the other way at something false!) I have seen blurring the lines in a long time.

Why is he not being exposed more through the media for the truth of what is going on. Does even the media in that area even avoid such exposure...

MOO

Does anyone have the actual link to these court documents vs. the media interpretations?

TIA.

Many times, strategic which comes first. Many times, best to let the criminal proceed, and sometimes best if civil preceeds to get depositions which criminal cases cannot.

This is a horrendous hornets nest, and pizzzzes me off to no end that there isn't someone standing up for this family and what is right. Although... a lawyer in that area standing up to his position............ SMDH.. This is so wrong.

This is a case that SCREAMS for some organization with national resources can pull out all stops on this one.

I hope and pray ..perhaps that the family would go on national tv asking for such assistance!

MOO

I believe that HIPPA covers medical records, even post mortem. Especially psychiatric treatment and diagnoses. It would be interesting to know where the defendant got this information about his victim.

INMO, this is akin to bringing up sexual history of a rape victim. Has NOTHING to do with the situation. The defendant cannot ascertain the mindset of his victim. How can he just decide that his victim, at that point in time, was suicidal? Impossible.

I really didn't think this story could get worse... but I was wrong.

The Dept. of Justice needs to get involved. It astounds me that local prosecutors are trying this case.

This site has the court documents. Ravnsborg claims Boever may have thrown himself in front of his car | KELOLAND.com

It's worse than I thought, as it uses Boever's recent hospital bills to support the claim that he was depressed.

But this site makes a good point: "If Boever really wanted to kill himself, why would he be carrying a lit flashlight that could alert an attentive driver to swerve away and brake?" Unable to Refute Misdemeanor Charges, Ravnsborg Accuses Man He Killed of Drug Abuse and Suicide

How does Ravnsborg sleep at night?
