What trials or cases are everyone going to follow next?

I am always interested in JonBenet Ramsey and Kyron Horman. I don't think either of those are going anywhere.

Is anyone following the Cooper Harris case "child left in the car seat" in the heat.

I am always interested in some case. It is just so hard with the cases involving children.

I'm kind of following the Boston Bomber, Ross Ulbricht and Alix Tichelman. I haven't really got time for JA as it is, so it's too time consuming to follow more than this.

I feel the same way about cases involving children—too heartwrenching. I will read MSM on Justin Ross Harris (Cooper Harris, 22 months, RIP poor baby.) According to an article I read in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, I think there may have been some peculiarities in the investigation.

Starting this list of defense costs.......some cases don't have the amount that the defense was paid, like the Scott Peterson case.

Richard Allan Davis (Polly Klaus)......... $1 million

Charles Chitat Ng (California serial killer)..........$6.42 million

http://www.aclunc.org/docs/criminal_justice/death_penalty/costs/trial_cost_case_studies.pdf

Casey Anthony................ there's so many donations/private monies/State reimbursement, I can't find a total!

OJ Simpson.........................$3-5 million

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O._J._Simpson_murder_case

George Zimmerman.........................$2 million

http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/26/justice/george-zimmerman-court-costs/

From http://thelawdictionary.org/article/how-much-does-a-criminal-defense-lawyer-cost-for-murder-charges/

.......and I'm burned out on this search already! Google is NOT my friend this morning!

WOW! I'm shocked it took so much money to put Ng away. Man, if ever there was a slam-dunk I would have thought that was it. Too bad he didn't just off himself right away, like his partner, Leonard Lake, did. That $6.42 million doesn't even include the costs involved in finding and extraditing him from Canada after he ran or the court and prosecution costs.

Our grandson has decided that he's going to live off the land and catch squirrels to eat ....... in our backyard.

We have five pecans peach ,and pear trees in the orchard so he's made a snare to catch them. I don't think they'll taste like MickyD's or hotdogs and snack ramen.

This along with him deciding that he's going to be a blacksmith and make one of a kind sword and knives, and has built a mini forge which is driving me nuts. Did I mention he's has aspergers?

How old is your grandson? He sounds so cute. :) I wonder how he had decided that squirrels are good to eat.

It reminds me of The Beverly Hillbillies and road-kill.

It also reminds me of my son when he was about 9 years old. There was this new documentary on TV, Walking With Dinosaurs, that we watched- very realistic imagery. This was the time period that my son wanted to be an archaeologist.

When one of the dinosaurs killed and ate another, my son asked me why that dinosaur did that- he was very upset and cried. I told him that the dinosaur did that to live and we do the same with cows except someone else does the killing. We just buy the meat at the supermarket. Well- my son started to cry harder and said he would never eat meat again! That next year or so, he wouldn't eat any meat and subsisted on Kraft macaroni and cheese (the poor thing :( ) It's hard when the reality of how we need protein to subsist - meat- harms animals, but that is life. Eventually, I guess, the memory of that scene faded and he did eat meat again.

I know some about Asperger's as that is what I first thought my son had, but it turned out to be ADD. I do believe that my husband has Asperger's syndrome and not ADD. They are very similar.

Yesterday was the first one that I felt. It was stronger and deeper than the others and wasn't that scary. It makes you think of the big one and if it will come the the New Madrid fault along the Mississippi. If you look at the USGS site it showed quakes in Oklahoma about the same times, and strength.

Is the Old Cowboy stadium in Texas? Is that where they were yesterday?

Im beginning to think "fracking" may be the cause of these small ones in Texas and Oklahoma. It seems like its very possible.

After the debacle that was the Anthony trial, I vowed not to watch any more cases involving children. It's so painful. And frustrating! But I'll probably get sucked in, because I just can't seem to stay away from Websleuths. Hello, my name is Jane and I am an addict!

Since my husband is from Boston and my stepson works not too far from where the Marathon bombing took place, I'll be following that trial, for sure.

BBM I think I will follow that trial also. I'm not going to follow the Cooper trial because after Teghan's, I just don't want to follow anymore children's death trials. :(

Jury selection is going on:

Juror search begins in Boston Marathon bombing trial

"...Jury selection for the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, accused in the Boston Marathon bombing, begins Monday. Those chosen from a pool of about 1,200 will decide whether Tsarnaev planned and carried out the twin explosions that killed three people and injured more than 260 near the finish line of the race on April 15, 2013. If they find him guilty, they will decide whether he should be put to death..."

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/juror-search-begins-in-boston-marathon-bombing-trial/ar-BBhwhMJ

Trial is expected to last several months, according to the article.

Is there a thread for this trial?

Again hats earthquakes! ! Scare the crap out of me!!!! Always get told ~~eell that wasn't the "big one" :(

Hey, I'm a lifelong Californian, and although I've been through 3 big quakes in my life, I don't believe in "the big one", 8.0 or greater!
But I will bolt when they're bigger than 4.0.

I was when he was arrested, but then it died off, no new information, and his wife's undying support.:puke::puke::puke:

To help people understand what "fracking" is, I learned a little bit about it many years ago. It is a process that is used by Gas and Oil companies to retrieve more gas and oil from existing gas and oil wells. A lot of wells produce both gas and oil at the same time when they are dug. Most of the time a well is predominantly one or the other though.

Lets stick with oil for simplicity sake.

Over the years an oil well will start to lose its ability to retrieve the oil. What happens is the bottom hole pressure begins to get less and also the oil which is in the rock formation just begins to be depleted. So these oil companies are smart and what they have developed is a process called "fracking". What they do is basically inject down into the well various substances that go way down deep into the well and force their way into the cracks and crevices. They force it down under extremely high pressure and those substances which you can think of as small sharp rocks for example will force their way down into the cracks and expand the crack.

This process of fracking allows the natural oil to more easily flow from the bottom rock formations and into the well and eventually back to the top.

Its all about money of course and getting more profit from an old well that is about to be depleted. This is because its much cheaper to squeeze out more oil from a known well than it is to drill a new exploratory well, where the company may not hit any oil at all. Companies spend tons of money drilling exploratory holes all over the place until they get a good "hit" where its worth it to then finalize the well and put a pumping unit on one.

There are other methods too besides fracking that help more oil come out. One is to drill a side injection well and force pressure down an adjacent well which forces the oil to come out the original well.

The Fracking IMO can cause small earthquakes but I dont think the companies ever want to admit that and it is tough to prove. I think it is wrong to allow them to do it and wish it can be stopped. There are entire small towns getting damaged from the small earthquakes.

hope this helps everyone understand it.

Yep, that one was pretty ridiculous.

Cullen Davis (Texas).......................$3 million for final acquittal (not the mistrial or was that "hung"?)

From "Texas Monthly" 1979, page 128 https://books.google.com/books?id=M...llen Davis murder trial defense costs&f=false

Don't know what trial I'm going to follow next.........

Wow on the earthquakes. Hope everyone is safe.

Regarding JSS, I have to stay somewhat critical of her because she is the only one who has the power to stop the madness and all indications are she is doing nothing to control the courtroom.
And Juan has tried many times through his valid objections he brings up formally, and his valid objections are ignored by her.

I understand it gets old and I honestly have tried not to keep harping on her (honestly i have tried...LOL), but since she is the only one with the power to stop the madness, I think that is why the critisism keeps flowing her way. She is the only one that can reign in this crazy trial and she has let it get away from her. If anything, things seem much worse than the 1st phase where she mainly only allowed way too many sidebars. This phase, it has gotten way out of hand.

See, the DT knows this and they are exploiting her because they know she is doing nothing to stop them. Its all so obvious and just wish she would quit worrying about possibility of appeal because we know DT will appeal no matter what she does. JSS proved she is worried about appeals because its in the COA documentation. Very sad. She needs to be confident and NOT worry about that. Just obey the law.

And the ironic thing IMO is that JSS has been so overly cautious to a point where she is causing some possible appeal issues herself. A good example is her not allowing videos this time. She should have stuck to letting them in because she let them in during 1st phase. Nothing illegal about it. But now, she has created a possible appeal issue if she second guessed herself because now DT can claim....why did you allow videos in 1st phase if you agreed they should not be allowed this phase. This is the sort of thing where she worries so much about appeals that she is possibly causing a valid appeal issue.
But what people need to understand is that Death is different, that's why they're giving Jodi and the defense team so much latitude. But it angers me when posters accuse JSS of being in bed with Jodi and her team. Don't you think Juan would be more vocal if there were something fishy more than just the delays going on? And we don't know the real reasons so we can't criticize that this trial is not going as fast as we might like. The jurors are still hanging in there and the Alexanders want Death, so it's not about what posters' wishes are. It also angers me that people are comparing JSS to Judge Perry saying how much better of a judge he was, when we all know the outcome of that case, and he allowed a juror on the panel who "refused to judge". At least we have a conviction. JSS is just making sure there are no possible chances of successful appeal. All will be turned around when Juan gets his turn. He's put a woman on Death Row before in AZ. Sorry for my soapbox rant. I'm just tired of seeing JSS get beat up around here when I don't think it's really her fault.

Popping in on my lunch break...nothing much happening, I see. :seeya: Spring semester starts on Monday, so I'll probably do the same tomorrow, at least. I'm trying to remember: is there a hearing tomorrow? TIA

I agree and the critisism alone is getting out of hand too which is why I will personally keep trying to minimize mine when I can. It is getting old because this trial is getting old. LOL

Have you seen the documentary Gasland? http://www.gaslandthemovie.com

At least in some areas of the country, fracking does appear to be the culprit.

I live in Seattle. Here to tell ya: Big earthquakes are not fun. The Nisqually quake was our last big one, and it was a baby compared to what we could experience. Took 3 days for my heart to stop racing!!! And another 6 months before I stopped running for cover at the sound of each passing large truck.

People were blaming her for the 2 weeks the Court was dark over Christmas Break, despite the fact that it was a legal holiday, and all the courts were shut down, not just Jodi's trial. The jurors got to have their holidays with their families.
