Of course they're now bringing up the cigarett butts. Unknown DNA.

Now it's the pros job to submit enough evidence, circumstantial only it seems, to convince this jury that JY had the opportunity to 'stage' the cigarett butts from somewhere else, ie from outside the door he snuck out from the hotel (motel?). IIRCC, that area was used for 'smoke breaks.'

JMHO

Yes, fran, our boy Jason was quite clever. He, like his poor dead wife, also made lists. The butts could have been an impromptu "aha" IMO -- he saw a couple and said, "Why not." I'll bet during the testimony today, he is smiling inside and patting himself on the back. :maddening:

I heard that as well, a butt can outside the door JY alledgedly went out of from the hotel.

Can't you just envision two murderers hanging out in the Young garage taking a smoke break ?

Yeah -- it's a shame one of the butts wasn't a cigar!!!

JTF is working and out 'n about. I've sent him info about the testimony so far this morning, as he is not able to watch it live today. :-)

We know he had gloves because we could see them on top of the newspaper he was carrying as he walked out of the H.I. near midnight on 11/2/06

was the gloves pointed out in court?

I hope (and pray) videos get better and better in terms of proliferation and quality. How wonderful it would be to get actual video of the perp doing something right on camera. Some people don't believe a crime was committed unless they can see a video of it happening and see the perp doing the deed!

Given that they weren't found until after the house was released, it could have been staged at any point in time...not necessarily the night of the murder.

Or by someone who "found" the items.... Who knows?

IMHO, I've missed some of the trial due to my daughter's wedding, (which went off beautifully, I might add :)), but have they already established that Cassidy was changed? and brought forward to the jury that the clothes Jason was seen LAST at the Hampton Inn, are missing??????????

TIA
fran

Congrats on the happy wedding! :)

The CSI effect has taken hold. Perps have gotten much smarter & more informed about covering up, avoiding leaving their own DNA, wearing gloves, getting rid of clothes, shoes and items tying them to a crime. More cleanups in general (though not in this case) to erase signs of a struggle.

I bet we will continue to see less and less DNA tying an educated perp to a crime, and more other kinds of evidence, like digital, in it's stead.

There have even been a couple of criminals who've shaved every hair off their body in order to not leave evidence.

I recall during the Peterson trial, everyone thought the DA was doing a terrible job. As I got copies of the actual testimony, (there was a group who paid for it and it was members only), I saw the case in an entirely different way than most and definitely different than the MSMs. You would have thought we were watching different trials! I reached the 'HOOK' phase long before anyone else.

But, 1/2 way through the trial, the media realized that if you looked back over some of the evidence already presented, (it was a VERY long trial, MONTHS!), they suddenly realized, (LOL, 2 months after I'd posted it here on WS), that the timeline was actually cemented in to just 10 minutes for the crime to have occurred. No way! ;)

Anyway, for MANY, it was the FINAL witness by the pros who put the MONTHS of pros testimony all in a fancy box, with a ribbon on top to boot! It was the lead investigator and when he gave his 40 something point list of why? they continued to look in the Bay for Laci, everyone went 'Whoa!'

Let's hope this DA has a 'Perry Mason' moment like that. They gather all the evidence, practically in black and white, with a title "HE did it!"

IF the last witness for the pros doesn't do it, the DA has one more chance to qualify every pros piece of evidence into the guy is guilty as heck!:behindbar

I followed that one, Fran, in detail. That was a nail biter for sure.

  • #113
He is certainly not lacking in self confidence.

He is certainly not lacking in self confidence.

LOL. Nor in experience. He's like the Jack Knife of forensic labs...done a bit of almost everything.

He is certainly not lacking in self confidence.

Self confidence in their job is a MUST for the forensic evidence witnesses. Otherwise, the def would eat them for lunch!

Remember the guy in the OJ trial?.............He had reason to be nervous, IMHO. What a mess! that case was as far as dna, etc. Fortunately, they now use the OJ case in the study of what to NOT DO with DNA, etc.

Phew!

I hadn't heard this. Or was this the incident just before he was arrested, at the gym playing basketball?

tia,
fran

Yes -- IIRC, it was when a news crew with camera went into the gym in Brevard (or in that area to interview him. I'm sure you've seen the video -- he was hot & sweaty -- "You came here for that?!" -- And the press persisted, and then they were asked, with prejudice, to leave. HTH

I do remember him, Fran. I am quite aware of need for self confidence. The OJ trial rewrote many procedures in crime labs across the country. No doubt, these procedures are still being used in labs.

  • #119
Lab was requested to compare footprint on pillow-case to a shoe (size) purchased by LE.

Two separate shoe sizes in blood.

I've often wondered if JLY 'took' one of Michelle's teeth, to later plant at the scene in an effort to claim 'sloppy police work'. JMO
