dodie, Tinsel, LEW and Beatrice, I think you are each working on and contributing valuable pieces to one corner of this whole puzzle--the RC/MC codependent dysfunction section:
RBBM. IMO, based on what we know of her past, Misty needs a father figure and a stable family like nobody's business. RC & co. fit the bill and while she was "with" them, she probably felt like she belonged in a way that maybe she hadn't experienced for any length of time before. I think she's harder than any 17 year old should ever have cause to be, but I also think that she would change her story to match theirs, in order to prove her loyalty and be kept 'in the family' so to speak.
Respectfully snipped for focus. ITA with you here. Specifically, they make already-needy people find what they think they need, rather than going through the hard internal work required to identify and satisfy their REAL needs in a healthy way. For RC, they perhaps satisfied a need to feel powerful, which the presence of a seemingly-submissive (if only because doped-to-the-gills) girl-wife would also enhance. For MC, who is clearly capable of surviving on her own 'on the streets,' they provide an excuse to let go and not need to try to control everything. The presence of an older, "strong" male who found her attractive would enhance this. What a relief, not to have to hustle. Or at least to leave parts of the hustling to your partner?
Also RSFF. I read it as "he will always have her back." And, subconsciously, he is always right there behind her, making sure she toes the line.
RBBM. Indeed they are. Having control, resenting control (and by extension responsibility), throwing control out the window, demonstrating control. Whether it's by brandishing a gun, or popping pills, or being alluring to an older man, or keeping your women in line... Control is scary. Drug users like to show how much control they have, up to and including when and how they choose to use/lose control. Again, IMOO, RC and MC are engaged in a very predictable codependent dance. Whatever happened to HaLeigh might have thrown them off their steps slightly, but the dance remains the same...
THANK YOU for that post. In the beginning, I noticed that Misty's 'inconsistencies' all revolved around Ron's & Teresa's stories-& it dawned on me that she was changing her details to match theirs. Never have I understood why LE thinks Misty is the weak link. She was not & still is not your typical 17-18 tear old girl. She's as hard as nails. Now, Ron on the other hand, is a sniveling mama's boy. Go after him.

Drugs make people do sick things and cling to people in creepy ways.

Speaking of the tattoo, if he requested and paid for her to get it, it is suspicious, the tat with his name on her back. He is making sure that "she will always have his back".

I agree with your opinion.
MC looks very defiant in the backyard video
and Ron looks very reluctant in the wedding video.
They are both thriving on control.
