Cotter on Thursday is expected to ask for bond modifications.

Currently, his bond conditions include the following:
  • No contact with Brad Simpson, who has been charged with Suzanne Simpson’s murder.
  • Cannot possess any firearm.
  • Cotter was fitted with a GPS monitor.
He's asking a judge to remove a GPS monitor and to remove his travel restrictions.

In Judge Joel Perez’s court this morning for a hearing for James “Val” Cotter. I asked Cotter’s attorney, Robert Maurer, what we can expect today. He advised me he too is bound by the gag order Judge Perez imposed in the Simpson case. No sign of Cotter yet. 1/

The only pending motion on file is a motion to amend conditions of bond. Cotter is asking to have his GPS monitor removed and for the ability to travel more than 75 miles outside of Bexar County. 2/

Cotter’s case was transferred to Judge Perez’s court late last month. Judge Perez at that time also approved a request from Cotter, who has been out on bond since last year, to travel to Oklahoma for a few days. 3/

Judge Perez is calling the docket. Cotter has walked in with his attorney.

Cotter faces charges of prohibited weapons and tampering with evidence. Thursday, a judge ruled to allow Cotter to travel outside the previous restriction of 75 miles from Bexar County. The judge said Cotter is allowed to travel to California for work purposes and to Oklahoma to visit family. However, one condition was that he must remain on GPS tracking through any travel. He also does not have to ask for approval ahead of any planned trips.

Can't you just hear JC's attorney's argument -- 'Val's bad influence is locked up and he's a model citizen so let's please remove his monitor...'

The DA's office said you're free to roam if constant tracking of your whereabouts continues, and the judge agreed.

Simpson, 54, is scheduled for a 9 a.m. hearing before Judge Joel Perez in 437th District Court.

This is Simpson’s first hearing since mid-December when the judge made slight modifications to Simpson’s bond.

Although court records indicate a trial date is set, a court coordinator confirmed that it will be a simple hearing, and a jury trial is likely still some time away.

Brad’s hearing this morning was just a 30 day extension. Defense is still waiting on data from the Texas Rangers. Several terabytes of evidence involved in this case.

Prosecutors with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office have amassed a large amount of data in the murder case being built against Brad Simpson, the Olmos Park husband accused of killing his wife, Suzanne Simpson, disposing of her body. This mass data compilation has caused a delay in evidence delivery to Simpson’s public defender, Steven Gilmore, who subsequently was not ready to try a motion to quash the murder charge.

On Wednesday, Brad Simpson’s attorneys filed a motion to dismiss the indictment, which was denied.

The next hearing is scheduled for March 12, according to the 437th District Court.

The prosecution will continue to sift through one terabyte of data until then, and wait for outstanding forensic testing to be completed. The prosecution said it’s still awaiting about six terabytes of evidence from the Texas Rangers.

Justice seems to be moving slowly but surely for Suzanne.
Hope LE and the prosecutor have everything they need.
She's still missing. :(

Cases seem to move at a snails pace in Texas.

Savanah Soto and her boyfriend were killed in December of 2023 near San Antonio TX. A trial date for the man accused of killing them has not yet been set.

The trials of the other two accused of helping to hide their corpses are finally scheduled for trial next month.

This hearing will provide Brad Simpson's public defender, Steven Gilmore, the opportunity to attempt to suppress evidence and to review any evidence that has not yet been disclosed to him

Detectives said Brad Simpson began cycling his phone on and off as he traveled from San Antonio to the Texas Hill Country with suspicious items in the bed of his truck. He bought concrete and visited a dump site before spending 13 minutes in Bandera, where he unloaded a large object from the bed of his pickup truck, as detailed in the warrant.

And we have not heard a word lately about the search for her, other than it was extensive, and unsuccessful.

Did they officially call off the search? Seems like there are places we discussed on this thread that we have not heard have yet been searched.

Did LE just give up and decide to move ahead with a no-body case?

Seems to me they have evidence of Suzanne's demise but her body was likely lost to the landfill. Perhaps more will be revealed on March 12.

In previous hearings, prosecutors said they had a significant amount of evidence that they have not yet provided to Gilmore. It remains unclear whether any of this evidence will be made public at the March 12 hearing. [..]

Despite extensive search efforts — including in an Eastside San Antonio dump site and several properties belonging to the Simpson family — Suzanne’s body has not been located. Brad Simpson has reportedly been uncooperative with investigators, despite pleas from his family.

MAR 11, 2025
The husband accused of killing his wife and hiding her body, Brad Simpson, was set to stand before a judge Wednesday, March 12. Now, the hearing has been reset for the second time, granting his public defender another week to brace for an evidence hearing.

...the hearing has been delayed again, meaning Simpson won’t be back before 437th state District Court Judge Joel Perez until March 19.
