I don't think she took them off to help run away from her husband or to use them as a defensive weapon (as you asked above). Instead, according to the neighbor witness's comments in the affidavit, Brad Simpson had already been seen by the neighbor as "grabbing Ms. Simpson by her upper torso area to gain control of her body" and "tried to pull her downwards". Notice that if Brad were to continue these two actions (as reported by the neighbor) and get Suzanne to the position further east, where the neighbor later heard the 2-3 screams, then it is likely that Suzanne's body would be down on the ground and being dragged by pulling her upper torso in that easterly direction. If Suzanne was facing up during that struggle, then her tan heeled platform shoes (as shown in the photo near The Argyle, earlier that night) would be dragged on the rough ground of this "wooden/brushy area". Since these pumps (or platform shoes) do not appear to have any straps (judging by the photo of them near The Argyle), then, it appears, they easily could have fallen off her feet during this struggle.

Note that they may be the "two articles" that OPPD Chief Villegas said at a press conference were found in the wooded area and he referred to as being tested forensically to determine if the belonged to Suzanne. In summary, it sounds to me that these shoes may have fallen off her feet in this violent struggle rather than be purposefully taken off to help run away or to use as a defensive weapon.
The picture and reported argument between Suzanne and Brad at the Argyle was probably close to 3 hours before the neighbor witnessed the struggle in the front yard of their home. I doubt very much if Suzanne or even Brad were wearing the same clothes and shoes. I have not read any description about their apparel from the neighbor witness. JMSpeculation.

So frustrating & painful that there is no progress in this case.
No clue as to where Suzanne is.
Nothing new.
Husband Brad is due in court in 10 days on November 13th with his bond set at 3 million dollars.
He has no conscience and no backbone. He’s going to keep his mouth shut about what he did with Suzanne and let his own children continue to suffer into perpetuity.
It’s simply disgusting to think how someone who has been blessed with a lovely wife and with healthy children and a seemingly strong support system of siblings and peers can turn into such an ugly and evil monster.
He’s horrid.
On a brighter note, his brother is pretty amazing for speaking up so early in defense of Suzanne and the children and not supporting his brother the criminal.
His sister is pretty amazing in taking in the two younger children and raising them while supporting the two older college aged siblings.
Suzanne’s sister is pretty amazing for speaking publicly and diplomatically on behalf of her beloved sister.
All of these family members have exhibited such strong integrity in the worst of circumstances. My heart truly aches for them.
So many lives turned upside down due to the evil selfishness of one bad seed who seemed to have it all and threw it out through his egotistical selfishness and stupidity.
My personal frustration with this case runs deep because of the fact that Brad comes from such a privileged place in society.
My continual prayer is that something will snap inside Brad and that he will have a change of heart and show an iota of love for others and will come clean.
All IMHO

But Suzanne spent about 3 hours at The Argyle, from 6-9 pm. I doubt she changed her clothes or shoes there during that 3-hour interval. The time she spent in her home was considerably less, maybe about an hour (maybe as much as 2 hours, but maybe only tens of minutes), since the neighbor claims he saw Suzanne and Brad outside between 10 and 11 pm in the affidavit. Also, the Texas Dept. of Public Safety CLEAR ALART claims Suzanne was last seen in a black knee-length dress and might be barefoot.

Also, a lot was going on in that house during that time, after the three of them (Brad, Suzanne, and the 5-year-old) got home. According to the 5-year-old and Suzanne's mother, Brad hit Suzanne in the face, and Brad pushed Suzanne into a wall, hurting her elbow and back. Then Suzanne called her mother and reported that violence, according to her mother. Then Brad allegedly took her cell phone, according to her 5-year-old daughter. So, Suzanne might not have had much time to change clothes or even to change shoes. BTW, since this info is known by police (since they had a search and must have inventoried everything that might be related), then it could come out in the legal case against Brad related to domestic violence. My guess is they didn't find that dress during the search of the house, and it may later be found on her body.

I think you have some interesting thoughts. I am sure LE has more information than we are aware of. I didn’t realize Suzanne and the 5 year old stayed at the Argyle till 9PM. I thought I read where she called her mother at about 9PM from the house and told her about Brad striking her. A very sad day for the family. I really hope Brad will soon tell the truth about the events and let the healing begin.

I don't think Brad will tell anyone anything -- I assume he has an attorney -- wondering how much or little his attorney knows.
Going by what we do know, I don't think Brad is a candidate for Mensa...

Suzanne's family needs answers and closure. SMH.

Seriously. How did it go from LE stating she’s most likely in this landfill (which I thought was crazy to say even if they were confident) to absolutely nothing. Makes me sad and unfortunately lacking faith this will come to a close any time soon.
I recall two cases where LE was sure they would find something in the landfills. Jennifer Dulos, and Heidi Planck. I'm sure there are other cases. Something leads them to believe this. Not sure what that is.

I am sure they've talked to her friends that were at the party for some insight on the demeanor of each of them during and when leaving...BS and Suzanne arrived separately (I'm assuming) because she had an open house (it was posted on her FB page, whether she personally was working it or not, I don't have first hand knowledge) and was probably trying to figure out child care but ultimately brought their sweet baby with her...so who knows how long and how many drinks in BS was before she even got there. I have first hand experience with this lifestyle and this type of man and it would have taken next to nothing to set him off and start a blowup. She was probably at the end of her rope and actually started standing up for herself, which he likely didn't respond well to. I too wish he would talk but I can say with almost 100% certainty (at least comparing with my personal experiences with my own past situations) he is not taking any accountability and would probably blame her somehow if he did say anything. Again, I can relate to this so much unfortunately and it's just heartbreaking...

Edited to add: all of the above is just my opinion and thoughts, based on my own personal experiences and not based on first hand knowledge of the Simpsons' relationship.

I just realized how terrified she must have been to run away from the house with her five year old still inside.
IMO She knew her life was in imminent danger.

She may have drawn him out of the house purposely to keep the little one safe, since the poor kid already witnessed their mom get battered.

I feel badly for her family. We don't know how much more was witnessed over the years by friends and family, but they might have seen coercive control and not understood it. His brother really wants to ensure the public knows that "Brad wasn't raised like that" and it seems like distancing language to me IMHO.

There are too many controlling men who behave like Brad in the world today. I wish femicide wasn't so common.

Around a dozen friends of Suzanne Simpson attended the hearing, holding missing person flyers featuring her photograph.

Cotter’s attorney, Robert Maurer, argued for a reduction of Cotter’s $1 million bond, calling it unconstitutional.

The hearing will resume on Tuesday afternoon when Cotter’s mother is expected to testify regarding his financial situation.

“The entire purpose here is to keep him in jail as long as possible to try and force him to cooperate, and that’s not the basis of bail bonds in the State of Texas," the defense claimed. "That’s not legal."

His attorney has asked that each of the two $500,000 bonds be reduced to $25,000, claiming Cotter is not a risk to the community.

Prosecutors, however, say Cotter can easily afford the bond. They point to a $1.4 million home in The Dominion that is fully paid for and a $65,000 truck that is also owned outright.

The defense claims the million-dollar home belongs to Cotter's mother and is in a trust that can't be used for the bond, adding that Brad Simpson serves as his financial manager, bringing further confusion to the status of his finances.

Great insight (and I agree with it). And welcome to WS!

Thank you! I'm so happy I found this thread...I pray every day for answers for her family and know exactly what it felt like in those moments the neighbor witnessed, only I luckily got out in time. Domestic violence doesn't discriminate against race, financial class, social class, etc...you never know what goes on behind even the fanciest of doors. :(

So glad to see you got out in time...
Sadly, we've seen too, too many who were not able to do it.
And one more thing:

Welcome to Websleuths,

...Despite his affluent upbringing, as a child of now deceased San Antonio real estate tycoon James F. Cotter, and the fact he was able to employ a pricey private defense attorney, Cotter argues he nor his family can afford to post his bail.

... for two days in a row, on both Monday, November 4, and Tuesday, Bexar County Judge Miguel Najera pushed the hearing back. On Tuesday, Maurer’s witnesses were nowhere to be found. Najera said those witnesses were critical to his decision in the request for a reduced bond. Maurer could be heard saying he had no evidence to present without said witnesses.

Cotter can’t afford bail? What a shame, guess his butt will sit in jail- enjoying the luxurious amenities for a while longer.
