That's great if it's true they can walk most of it. I am feeling a lot more positive about this now.

Timewise the various articles/tweets don’t add up.

The lead person said first boy would be out at 9:pm. Who knows, he could have been misleading us so there wouldn’t be pressure from the media and others trying to get closer to the entrance to the cave.

One tweet says the boys are currently at Chamber 3 having walked out. This means they went through the narrow opening, up the hill and down the hill that has concerned everyone. How did they do it with no face masks?

The governor says the boys will be brought out one by one. We keep reading the first rescue will bring four out.

Why send 18 divers in? A safety precaution if one of the divers escorting a child out gets sick? Perhaps the divers that are not the first ones out, will be able to get rest before they start the return trip. Now that is a good idea in my opinion.

This first trip out will be the one that is so closely watched by the world. May it be successful! Hopefully another group of boys and divers will have alredy started their trip to home.

Good night all. If I calculate it correctly, it will be about 10:00AM EDT when it is 9:00PM Thai time and the first boy is expected out. Praying for safety and good health.

Tonight, ABC carried a special report by Matt Gutman who reported that there had been activity to reduce the size of those stone obstacles which impeded their movement thru the tunnel. This really is a wonderful global team effort to bring these children safely back to their parents. It does this old heart good to see it unfold.

Why are you thinking that, Ms Angelic Rose? I haven't been able to read all the post yet, and am still trying to catch up; so wondering what you've gleaned!

I think they started much earlier than we have been officially told.
Very soon I believe. We shall see if the little angel whispers are right. :)

Hypothermia is a risk. The water in the cave is very cold, and the boys will be submerged - at least partially - in the many hours it will take for them to get out.

Another danger is infection. There are all sorts of diseases in the cave, which could be carried by bats or dirty water.

Veena Thoopkrajae who is on the ground working for the Guardian, reports that traffic around Chiang Rai Prachanukroh hospital, which is where officials plan to send the boys when they get them out of the cave, has been closed.

The hospital is about 57 km from the cave.

This is what the Thai Navy SEALs have posted on their Facebook page about two hours ago: "We, the Thai team and the international team will bring the Wild Boars home." That’s the team name of the young footballers in the #ThamLuang cave as the extraction is under way. Saksith Saiyasombut on Twitter

Once our boys are out and safe, I certainly hope they seal that cave entrance to avoid the inevitable copycats...

If the boys have to go underwater, rescuers might use a "buddy diving" system where each is tethered to a skilled rescuer diver.

This is how it might look:

Guess I should sleep. Godspeed to the boys, coach and rescuers, and families

Our reporter, Jacob Goldberg, says that camera crews – barred from the cave site and forbidden from taking pictures of the rescue – are camping out near the entrance to the site, trying to get as close as they can to the cave’s entrance.

The divers set off at 10am local time. It is currently just after 1:30pm in Thailand. We have been told not to expect the first boy to emerge from the cave until 9pm, so as Jacob writes “it will be a long, wet wait”.

Thai cave rescue: Divers enter cave to free boys -- Live updates - CNN

Water levels in parts of the cave are now "low enough to walk through," said Chiang Rai Governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn.

In three of the main chambers -- Chambers One, Two and Three -- water levels have dropped significantly, and in "parts have receded as much as 30 cm (11.8 inches) -- considered the lowest level for the past 10 days," he said.

Good luck, everyone! May they all make it out safely, boys, coach, and rescuers!

This seems extreme if we are still several hours away from a patient. Another indication things might be further along than we’ve been told.

Oh rosie, sweetie-- no, that just can't happen.
Can't take away something that has otherwise not caused problems for decades (centuries really, after the first few didn't come out alive, people caught on...)
Generally, everyone will be most careful and diligent.
And if there is any human foolish enough to "copycat" well, not sure there will be a rescue like this one again -- and moreover, it might be desireable if the aforementioned utter fool is deleted from the gene pool.
imo, of course ;)❤️

That said, I do believe there probably could be that fool out there somewhere...
and if it happens, the only reason that I might, and I do say might, hope for him to come out alive, would be so that I could clobber him!

For all the new, and some old posters joining the vigil for Thai boys in the cave, there seems to be a bit of confusion about whether or not the boys had already “walked” to the “3rd Chamber.” Just to clarify:

First, the distance from the cave entrance to elevated area where boys found shelter on a ledge is approx 3km. The “3rd Chamber” of the cave sits at a higher elevation, and is also known as the SEALS rescue base and staging ground for operations. It’s not dry area, but safe enough to be chosen for the staging from the beginning.

As for the 1.5km distance from the boys safe ledge to the 3rd Chamber, and the additional 1.7km from Chamber to the cave entrance (i.e., cave exist for the boys), these passage ways are represented by jagged, sharp, cave walls; whirlpools, strong current, and “coffee” flood water, at depths up to 16 ft. While water has recessed some , I believe it’s more likely the boys will be “wadding” (not walking) through the cave when not submerged with the help of the trained divers. Please reference many of the graphics posted in these threads to get an idea of the treacherous conditions the boys and their 18 rescue divers have ahead of them.

Michael Safi

“Michael Safi was at the press conference that has just concluded and has this full report about what was said there……

…The boys and their families had been informed. “Their health and their minds are ready and they all have knowledge of the mission,” he said. “They’re ready to go out.”

He said the 1.5km path from the cave entrance to the “third chamber” [the area] that has been a staging ground for the operation, was not completely dry but mostly walkable. “Yesterday the water levels were the lowest they had been,” Osatanakorn said.

He would not say whether the boys would need to dive at all in the 1.7km journey from where they are sheltering [i.e., on the ledge] to the third chamber.” BBM
