Nova, I think your hormones are out of balance. You don't seem to be your normal human self. I hope you get better soon.

My hormones are fine, Jeana, but thanks for asking. I have been quite logical on this thread and patient in the face of overly emotional charges. I have put a lot of effort into explaining exactly where otherwise reasonable posters cling desperately to their patently irrational hatred of the Dixie Chicks.

Of course, I could have saved myself a lot of trouble and just said, "Don't kill the messenger." But as a rule I don't put a lot of faith in simplistic adages like "never criticize the President on foreign soil."

How 'bout you guys just admit you aren't comfortable with attacks on the Great White Father? And then we can discuss why pretended loyalty to a figurehead is more important to you than exposing a liar or stopping an immoral war.

Great White Father??? LOL You crack me up.

What about those of us (me) who didn't want the war, don't agree with it at all, and want our troops home now? I'm not a Bush fan. I met him when he owned the Texas Rangers and I didn't like him way back then. Didn't vote for him the first time. Wouldn't have voted for him the second time if there was anyone better.

The fact of the matter is that you can't lump us all in together as blind followers. There are plenty of people who don't even like George Bush who thought the Dixie Chick were out of line. They obviously knew it wouldn't go over well or they would have said it at EVERY concert that they did and not just the one.

I admire your courage...standing up for yourself here, the odds are stacked against you.
Bush and his admin will be the end of your country.
He won't be happy until all your troops are in Iraq.....all ours too.

Jeanna, it was a remark, not a carefully vetted foreign policy speech. It wasn't even a clever remark. Had it been the premeditated act of treason some make it out to be, the Chicks would have come up with something pithier (or hired somebody to write something for them). I seriously doubt they did any marketing surveys to determine which venue would get to hear those 8 or so words.

I know you aren't a blind follower of this President (and I don't assume anyone else here is), which makes it all the more amazing that you feel so strongly about one careless remark. Aren't the deadly actions of Bush & Co. a lot more important than a comment by a pop singer? For God's sake, we have a Secretary of Defense who sent too few troops in without proper armor?

Where is your sense of priority? Why are you still nursing a grudge against the Dixie Chicks? Why? Why? Why?

Thanks, Narla. My friends in Australia feel exactly as you do.

My sense of priority? What am I supposed to be doing stuffing parachutes? Rolling bandages? LOL I want the guys home, but since I can't have that, I try and send over things that they can use. Things that give them a little bit of comfort. I don't stand around saying things that will only make them feel worse and unappreciated.

This is the first war I've ever known, being too young for Vietnam, etc., but I just think that during war, there are things you say and things you don't say. And, if you feel you MUST say something like that, have the guts to do so in your own country. They're cowards and frankly, I'm ashamed that they're Americans.

Nova and I have the type of relationship where we can say these things to one another. He's made similar comments to me in the past and we know what we mean. Please don't worry about it.

No you are wrong. It is the fact at least in my eyes that like the president or not. They were out of line. They had no courage to say it on US soil. They said it when they were a broad. An like it or not I have heard from soliders that were serving MY COUNTRY when they said it. ANd they took it as a slap in the Armed forces face. And don't even get me started on Sheehan.

The DixieChicks criticized GWB, NOT THE SOLDIERS. They did not say they were ashamed of the soldiers. If you think that every soldier fighting in this war agrees with GWB's policies or even his stance on war, you are mistaken. I am proud of our soldiers and pray for them everyday. However, I am 100% against this war. I am intelligent enough to understand that the soldiers are doing their job that allows us all of the freedoms we have today. However, the fact is they were sent to fight in a war that was started under false pretenses, ordered by a man who is their Commander whom they should be able to trust. GWB is the one who is letting the soldiers down. Not the Dixie Chicks for voicing their opinion.

I'm 100% against this war too and am glad that you support the troops.

Amen. I agree 100% with you.

:p Funny thing how the Dixie Chics never come to perform at the 'welcome home' celebrations for our troops... I've seen celebrities all across the board come out and perform, I've seen Toby Keith come and he was practically worshipped (we all love him here) I guess the DC's can run their mouths in other countries but can't come over and face a couple troops? lol I suppose their 'Welcome' will be as BIG as if Fonda tried to show her face around here ;) Nobody really cares about them anymore anyway they are a bunch of has beens.

Good grief. Is this thread still going on? We have freedom of expression. We have freedom to own a gun. We have the right to be secure from unreasonable searches and seizures. Etc., etc., etc.

Now can everyone just agree to disagree and move on.

Then again, I guess it is none of my beeswax.

JMHO

CAn I ask you all a question. IF say GWB pulls out all of our Troops. WHat kind of reaction do you think he get? 10 to 1 would be anger from Familys who sons or daughters died over there. When people enlist in the services they know the risk they are taking and serve our COUNTRY proud.
SO the way I see it GWB is Damn if he does and damn if he does not. Also we all are foreggting he would also have to go through the Senate and Congress as this is not a dictatorship Country Thank GOD.

Thanks for your concern, Masterj, but Jeana is right. She and I go way*back at WS (How long have we been here now, Jeana, 8 or 9 years?) and sometimes we push the boundaries of the TOS a bit, but only in the way friends sometimes do. But thanks.

Voicing an opinion, no matter what the risk, is hardly an act of cowardice.
