I wonder if they're being bugged now.

Didn't they speak out before the war became a disaster? In my opinion, they should have just spoken against the WAR, in their own country, not over in England.

After all England was going to be one of our few allies in the effort.

I guess it depends on when you think the disaster happened. I think it was from day-one, but that's just me. :)

Oh, you missed out on "mission accomplished"?

My memory may not be correct, but I was thinking they spoke out right at the beginning of the war.

I saw it. I've never been in favor of us being in this war, so from the day the first bombs fell, I knew it was FUBAR. Now, I want them all home, but also don't want them to feel like they didn't do what they were there to do - whatever that is.

I think most Americans like to keep their entertainment lives separate from their political lives. Music, movies, art, sports, and the like are an escape for many people, so when they see their heroes/idols/whatevers suddenly cross that line of escape and bring more reality into the fold it spoils the illusion.

Some people with exposure such as theirs take it upon themselves to use it to get a message about, but really, it's like taking a swing at a bee's nest with your hand instead of a 10 foot pole.

Indeed. I don't think there's any reason the Chicks would refuse to entertain troops if they were welcome to do so.

They spoke out against the President. They didn't spit on returning vets.[/QUOTE]

Ya know...that leads me to ask how in the hell does Jane Fonda still get to reside on US soil? She is one of the biggest traitors this country has ever seen. But yet...millions went to see "Monster in Law" when it came out...which was about the same time...maybe even a little after the DC's made their statement. Has everyone just forgotten about Hanoi Jane? I'll never watch one of her flicks. I know that there isn't a service man alive that wouldn't like to spit on her...and one did! he,he,he. He stood in line at her book signing last year or so and pretended to want an autograph just so he could spit on her. Now THAT was justified. In my opinion, what the DC's said was in bad taste, but I wouldn't call it traitorous ...America was founded, in part, on free speech. JMO. :truce:

I don't know, but I won't watch anything she's in.

You know I like thier music. I will not buy another CD of theres. And here is why. What difference does it make when they do a song about a soldier *An yeah the sone title escapes me right now* And Toby doing a song about WAR. But Toby explained it was a tribute for his Dad. Who just killed in a car wreck. Toby also offered a peace offering but they would not accept it.And I did not like remarks about our President . I do not care REP or DEM. we have to support our President
They also have sang songs about women empowerment and standing up for themselves instead of being abused....guess that doesn't make as much difference as politics.

That's exactly it. It was a completely tacky thing to do in a foreign country. Actually, it was completely tacky in any country. While I do believe she is entitled to her opinion, I don't believe in using a public forum to spew that stuff on others. People were there to see a concert, not listen to what she thinks of her president. :snooty:

Additionally, I will not watch a Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Alec Baldwin, etc. for the same reason. I'm still waiting for Alec to move overseas... what a windbag he is...
But it's okay for Toby Keith and all the Bush and war supporters to voice their opinion and for you to post your opinion on a forum....it's that just a little bit hypocritical?

Ahhh, if I was at a political function, I'd expect to hear that stuff - not at a concert (and, yes, this includes a Toby Keith concert). I don't buy concert tickets to hear musicians views on politics. And, by the way, I could have sworn this was an opinion forum. :waitasec: :waitasec:

I think it's a bit different posting on here compared to having a world stage. At the time this occurred I think they were the best act in country music. But I think that was a useless and career suicidal thing to do,as obviously the majority of the people do based on their dropoff in sales and air time clearly shows. If you don't like the job the President is doing do like most people do write him a letter or send an editorial to the newspapers. Most people just want to hear music or watch movies .We dont care about their political opinions.

Comments like this always amaze me. Do you think being the President of the United States is an easy job?

As they say, it's so easy to be a critic...

I understand that the Dixie Chicks said some things that were offensive. Have they said anything about Bush that I haven't said in the past couple months? NO, and I voted for him, TWICE

. But I willsave that for the political forum. Alot of celebrities voice their opinions abnout everything from religion to abortion to war. If we were to boycott every celebrity who offended the conservative half then we would never be entertained with music or movies, which is why I gave up on being offended by the chicks. I love their music, I could care less about them in any other capacity. If all of us avoided WS b/c they were offfended by an opinion or postthen this would be one lameduck forum!

Whoa can we please back this BUS UP!!!I have seen Toby Keith in concert every year since the war started.I have also seen interviews with him. Not onec ever ever did he say he supports the WAR. When it comes to him playing RED WHITE AND BLUE he tells everyone to please keep in mind the Men and Woman serving our country in the Armed Forces.

Since I see you are from down under I will let this one slide. But is everyone forgetting one little detail here.
Pres Bush might be the head Man. ButWe have Congress and a Senate that also has thier say in what the USA does. And last time I checked they were both Rep. and Dem. there.I dislike Clinton but guess what he was our Commander and Chief. And I knew he was also ran by the Congress and Senate except for one Little Mistake. :p

I'm no fan of Democratic performance over the past 5 years, but both Houses of Congress have been controlled by Republicans.

Well my dear, if they wanted to be fair, they should have said "we're ashamed that President Bush is from Texas and you should be ashamed of Tony Blair too."  But, they weren't interested in being fair, so I'm not going to worry about it either.

I'm all for someone standing up to someone else and saying look I think this is b.s. But have the guts to do so like a grown up and face it. Don't run, duck and hide in another country and do so.

You're kidding, right? Criticizing the President in front of recording devices and thousands of people is hardly hiding. In this era of global communications, speaking out in England isn't whispering at the bottom of a well.

As for what they did or didn't say about Tony Blair, I don't know. I haven't heard the entire concert. But the Chicks have been plenty outspoken back here in the States.

Natalie has the biggest mouth. The other two have said that they totally support Natalie, her views and none are apologetic at all. They are trying to break more into rock. I guess that they figure rock fans are more liberal...

Heck, one of the other two sisters even called country music fans "rednecks" on 60 Minutes last night. Yep, that's how to win friends and influence people...

Rednecks huh? Well us rednecks made those girls quite a few big bucks in their earlier days. Maybe they should go over to rock...most of the rock groups are short lasting and I think it is a whole different ballgame from Country music. I've heard one of their new songs on the radio and it isn't the old Dixie Chicks music. I didn't really care for it that much.

I think many of the troops probably believe that it does hurt them, but they're used to fighting and dying for the freedom of Americans to say what they want.

You are so right Jeana. I've listened to various service men speak about how it makes them feel when word of what is being said here gets back to them. I've heard intertainers speak about the conversations they have had with the troops when the intertainer was over there. It hurts our troops to hear about the contraversy taking place here. They are over there fighting for our rights and our freedom. The intertainers come back and say what hight morale the troops have and how they didn't hear one person 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 or complain about what they are doing over there or about being there. Maybe we should all take a lesson from our troops and get a attitude adjustment. I hate it everytime I hear that we have lost another man or woman over there. Nancy Grace honors one person who has lost their life every night on her show. I look at the faces of each person and it hurts my heart. I think of the families they have left behind and it is so sad. But our troops feel that they are doing something worthwhile and important. We really need to stand firmly behind them and they need to feel our support. By badmouthing the President over the war and how we think it is senseless does affect the troops regardless of what anyone says. They are there...they are doing what they believe is right...that isn't going to change by badmouthing the President. As long as they are over there we should act in a way that will help them....not hurt them. That is my opinion anyway.

I don't think it's fair to say that ALL the troops are happy with what they're doing, and not disgruntled about certain things - like the armor situation, long rotations, repeat rotations, etc.

There are websites where you can read what servicemen are experiencing. Some of them are tired, discouraged and they want to come home. That doesn't mean they will slack on their job or talk about it in front of their superiors.

Does this mean we should not have criticized LBJ, or called for the end to the Viet Nam war? If there were no criticism would it have just gone on and on, and he run for another term?

Americans can and should express their opinions, just hopefully in a non-violent and appropriate venue. Denegrating the soldiers who serve though, as they did some during Viet Nam, is definitely wrong, IMO.
