The elusive "other" cell phone - the Blackjack - REVISITED

Correcting part of my own statement. If KC took J.P. to the mall as soon as she picked him up from the airport, in order to buy a new phone, how would he KNOW his phone was missing to begin with..since he had not gone home yet? .i.e, kinda throws out the theory that KC took his phone? Errrr. This is frustrating! Anyway, just more thoughts to add to the pot.

...and IIRC, Amy had to drop Ricardo off before taking JP to the mall. I understand what you're getting @ Susanlee, and appreciate the detailed, critical thinking...keep'em coming! Others have suggest JP just wanted the latest-n-greatest and it was entirely coincidence that iPhones were becoming available the day of their return...ok, maybe so.

...also, btw, some pages back on this thread, liltigress spotted a Fb or MS message from Casey about getting a new blackjack. http://websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2662359&postcount=130

I threw the observation of JP-wanting-to-get-a-new-phone-the-day-upon-arriving-back-from-PR idea out there to provoke some thought on the possibilities...

...other WS'rs have proposed a pre-paid phone option...

all good thoughts IMHO!

According to the statement made by Amy, it was her that went with J.P. to the mall to get a new phone not KC. Amy had already dropped KC off at AL's house and AH went back to the airport to get RM and JP who were waiting for her. And Cindy even picked up Amy at the mall to ride with her to get KC from AL house.

And to think this is such a clear cut, uncomplicated case, how do I not have my facts right, LOL! Really, thanks for pointing out/correcting me on the airport part. Maybe I should give my brain a rest for a few hours!

She told Lee that she had problems with the phone because it wouldn't hold a charge. So, she may have stolen the phone but didn't have the charger.

actually the Samsung Blackjack is notorious for it's battery not holding a charge.

I think she did have another cell phone, either purchased or stolen. I think also that she was telling the truth about losing it. I think that she lost it in J. Blanchard Park (just as she told Lee in the phone conversation) by it either falling out of her pocket, or pocketbook while she was in the process of disposing of Caylee's body. She after all was probably doing a lot of lifting, tugging etc. and it would be easy to dislodge a phone from a pocket, pocketbook in these circumstances. This is just my opinion.

OK, I had never seen the info about Casey buying a blackjack phone so her little conversation with LA was about a phone then. [Ammending my previours theory it may not have been a phone that they were talking about]
If Amy dropped RM off first then went back to the mall with JPC then is would make more sense that it could have been JCP phone but is also could have been RM's phone as well that had been taken. The reason I am saying this is beccasue there is nothing in Amy or RM statement [at least I don't remember reading it] that said that JCP was living with them at the Glenwood apartment even though it was JCP's place. Somewhere from something on this forum I got the impression the RM is somehow working with or for JPC so maybe RM phone was the only that could have been at the apartment to be stolen but was actually owned or at least connected to one of JPC accounts and he needed to replace the phone for RM. Either way LE would be able to get records for these guys phone calls and pings.
Which brings up another question. If I have my facts straight about JPC not actually living at the Glennwood place where was he living?
Please feel free to correct me if I have this info that I based this idea on totally misconstrued.
My laptop caught a bad virus on Saturday and is at the doctors. I have none of my pdf files or notes. I am working off of memory [ be kind please] on a very old and very slooooooow laptop for the next week. Grrrr.

I didn't read the entire thread, but does everyone think there was indeed a 2nd phone?

Didn't they turn her cell service off in July because she owed what was it, $574.00? I was thinking, maybe she never actually bought a 2nd phone, but rather, used that money (check) to pay her cell phone bill.

i just got a blackjack...it's pretty great. that's what i would recommend.

This *would* suggest that she has either been lying about the blackjack since at least May 3, 2008, or that she may have actually had one. If it does exist, she either ditched it and picked up a cheap phone thinking it would mask the numbers she had called or the blackjack was on a different number. What information is out there to support one of the following theories? (I'll collect it in the main post)

1. No blackjack ever existed.
2. A blackjack with a different number existed.
3. She had a blackjack and ditched it for a cheap phone, hoping to mask calls.

we do have one seeker. the server is too slow for me to get it. but I will merge later.

Right on! Great work, WSers! I should have known this was already being examined. :D

Somewhere in the pic's of Caylee, in the background (on a desk or a table) there are keys and what looks to be a flat black phone. Would that be what she is referring to as her "blackjack"?

Gosh, that May 3 message she wrote about the blackjack is pretty exciting! I don't know much about this stuff but when you buy/start using a new cell phone it's registered with whatever phone carrier you're using. There has to be a way to check that with each company but I wouldn't know how.
also I have a bunch of personal experience with LE when a close family member was murdered and the unfortunate reality is that although they really want/try to solve cases and go in every direction, they are very short on money/manpower. Often things fall through the cracks. what I'm getting at is this. I feel that May 3 message needs to be brought to LE's attention as they may not have believed she ever had a Blackjack and may not have followed up in that direction. what do you think?

This has probably been said before, but you can switch your sim from one provider-authorized phone to another w/o assistance from the provider. Any number you call with your phone, sim installed, will show up on your bill, regardless of which phone your sim is in.

Having said that, I read about people coming up with programs to hack i-phones and unlock sims, so they could use a provider other than ATT? I think the official provider. I'm not sure if this is legal or not so won't provide links, but if you do a search you can find a couple for Blackjack phones.

OK, I realize that 99% of what Casey Anthony says is a half-truth at best, still, I've been re-listening to Casey's phone call to Lee @ end of July that includes info on her other (i.e. "BlackJack") cell phone.

IF, we play along for a minute, and, indeed, there WAS another cell phone (i.e. "BlackJack" or other) Casey appears to be TRYING to tell Lee that she tossed her cell phone @ Universal Park when she was taken their by LE, 7/16. She indicates the last time she had it for "certain" was when she was in through the park "in through the park talking to a couple of mutual friends", and "it wasn't necessarily fun" and "not through work". At this point she knows the calls are made public and must try to get the point across indirectly.

She later indicates that these "mutual friends" are the ONLY ones she talked to about Caylee missing. The two names she gives are complete fabrications (oh, how ironic) and she disagree’s with the spelling of Juliet to try to clue Lee into what she is trying to tell him, but, he doesn't get it (i.e. the “mutual friends” are the LE that accompanied her 7/16)!

She also indicates "J Blanchard Park" as a potential place she lost it too to try to clue Lee into what she is trying to tell him - as in places she's been escorted around to w/ LE 7/15-7/16, but, he doesn't get it.

She is VERY emphatic about telling him how it might've been lost "that's the thing...if it fell out of my bag...if it fell out of my pocket [LONG PAUSE i.e. "DON’T YOU GET IT?!?!?].

My hope is that LE figured this out some time ago and retraced Universal route they took on 7/16 (i.e. Did she go to a restroom unmonitored?), and checked the lost-and-found @ Universal for any/all cell phones. IF there indeed was another cell phone Casey used, regardless of what type, it may have been tossed in a place where it would be hard to tie back to its original owner.

Casey may have stolen the second cell phone to use when she needed to go undetected, and, hence, didn't have a charger to use. J.P. Chatt immediately went shopping for an iPhone the day he returned from Puerto Rico, suggesting that something had happened to his phone.

J.P.’s phone records would be worth a search.

Dunno about the compatibility of the sim chip between Casey’s phone and the other phone. Maybe just a complete ruse there.

Perhaps not new ideas, but, just in case, I thought they were worth sharing.

first, yes she did have a black jack. she had mentioned it on the internet in may 2008. second, she uses At&t and you CAN switch sim cards without calling for activation.

good theory you've got there. :)

OK if she got the blackjack through Metro PCS, which has the slack rules and it's easy to get one, it would be a different # and not be associated with her original at&t/sim card and bill. How could we find out if she had one through another company like Metro PCS?

The two phones working at the same time has always bothered me. She claimed they both were active together, hence the interchangeable sim card. I don't know of any service that would allow a user to have two phones on the same number, so IF there were two phones, there would have been two phone numbers. I personally don't think there ever was another telephone 'device'. I think that was totally premeditated and concocted story. The reason I believe that is IF she really had two devices, SHE would have been scrambling to get the phone records to LE and the media to prove her story.

Silence speaks louder than any speaker sometimes.

I am able to use more than one phone, same number, with my provider. You just switch the sim. I did it once when my phone got damp. I put my sim in my old, original phone and used it for a couple of days.

So, if you use two different phones, all the calls to that number are on the same bill? Right? Didn't know that.

Bold mine...Remember that just because Casey says something, even online, that does not make it a fact...She is a HUGE liar so NOTHING that she says can be taken as a fact.

Also remember that as of Casey's bill that was paid with stolen bank routing numbers, her bill was in the vicinity of nearly $600.00, so she KNEW that on May 3 she was going to have a hard time coming up with the money for her bill in the next month or two and so MAY have been on the lookout to steal one...Find someone that Casey was AROUND in April or early May who had a phone lost or stolen and perhaps THAT will be the phone that she is referencing here...Her own phone may even have been turned off at that time-who knows? CASEY DOES>
