I'm death to see Pirates, as I fell into totally mad divine devotion of him in #2. I did hear that
Spiderman is absolutely GREAT! LOL ;} Scandi

I haven't seen either of them but I must rent the last Pirates. A friend's son (known him since birth) has a model girlfriend who has movie casting contacts. Long story short he is one of the poker playing pirates with Depp.

Never had an acting lesson in his life and he gets the part! Lived it up in the Caribbean for about 6 months!

Wow, how much fun is that? bet he had a blast. Thanks for sharing, jilly. I love the Pirate movies. Look forward to this newest one. plus I love any thing Johnny Depp's in... great actor!

Scandi,

Vinnie is a Hanoverian gelding last shown in 2005. He is owned by a young lady from Riverside California who rides dressage and trains riders as well. Vinnie is not his real name by the way. He is indeed a gentle horse with a very good mind - very tractable - great personality. Easy keeper and friendly, but not entirely a great mover. His career was mostly through the mid to upper levels and some freestyle, but freestyle (such as you saw with Blue Hors) was not his strong suit.

The braiding is required in all shows that are judged for points. The reason is to show the "frame" of the horse-you've heard me speak of that often but it is a necessary element. Remember the root foundation of dressage, the mane is not essential and is actually a detriment. The mane if left down would hide the confirmation of the neck line - most are cropped short as are most race horses' manes - distraction being the primary reason.
Caught a bit of the Nationals at Las Vegas on either Saturday or Sunday, can't remember which. I love freestyle dressage. They didn't show that much dressage, but the finals of Grand Prix Jumping.

Charlie, I thought I did the perfect thing for a little girl who is using one of our Palaminos for 4H this year. I waited around forever for the instructor to come show her about grooming. Meanwhile, I brushed her out and clipped her ears and evened out her main and "banged" her tail. Boy did that b**ch chew my butt. She's a very unpleasant lady in the first place, but I guess 4H rules and grooming tips for show in Horse Illustrated are not compatible. I have tried to practice braiding manes and also the tails of our draft horses. I really need someone to show me personally. Certain breeds of registered draft horses have their tails docked. You can't show them without a docked tail. Then your braid the tail and put a rosette on. We do "roach" the manes of some of our horses for clean lines and for their comfort with heavy collars and harness.

BTW, having so much fun with two colts born mid April. Both are male this year and very affectionate. I play with them every day and can touch them all over and stretch legs, tap hoofs, get them to lay down and scratch bellies. They have decided the BarnGod's belt buckle is great for chewing. We start all colts this way. So much easier in the long run. Fortunately all our mares are very trusting of us, and let us play with the babies with no problems.

Do they still shoot them for a broken leg? :( No don't tell me, I'd rather think otherwise.

On a lighter note has anyone seen Spiderman 3 and Shrek 3? I've went to both, but am really on the edge of my seat to see Pirates/Johnny Depp. :D
Shrek 3 just opened nationally this week. Normally, our little town gets one or two good hits a month. I was amazed that on opening day, we actually got Shrek on the opening day. It even will play for two weeks. It was so crowded this weekend we're waiting until this coming weekend to see it.

BG,

I don't know anything about the 4H requirements but I must say there was no need for the lady to be obnoxious about it IMO. Seems just about every group has a certain way of doing things, nothing consistent. I thought of you Friday nite - the annual "Sucker Days" parade was Friday and there is always a 2 horse team of Clydesdales and a 2 horse team of Belgiums pulling these beautiful old wagons (actually hearses). They were groomed beautifully as always -braided up and tails docked- some very gentle giants.

I do know how to do the braiding but it takes me about 3 hours where as my wife and the grooms have it done in about half that time. Of course mine is not as nicely done either but I try when I feel the need for punishment ! :p Total pain in the behind !

As to the foals, they are indeed wonderful little creatures and full of fun but I have it figured they spend all that time developing and fighting to get into this world and once here they spend all of their time trying to get out of this world. Scary little buds, worse than kids when it comes to finding ways to get hurt. I really don't like being responsible for other people's foals and try to avoid them if possible, sweet buggers but...

Talking about spring babies.....I am taking care of an infant cottontail rabbit. It's just the most adorable thing. My brother hit the nest with his brush hog and and sent me the only survivor to raise. Its challenging to say the least. My vet has been a godsend in what to do, and so far things are going well. He's opened his eyes and is very perky. :)

You rock Snowshuze !

You just put a smile in my heart Snowshuz, raising your little Cottontail, and you BarnGoddes with your baby Draft horses, and Charlie too, trying to keep the baby foals out of big trouble! LOL

I only have Anna's Hummingbirds but they are such fun to watch. Each has its only special uniqueness and personality and so you know immediately whose come for some nectar.

In one family that all fly the same way down to a certain Douglas Fir, the PaPa is drop dead gorgeous with his whole head a brilliant cross between fucia and bright purple, with a bright green back and he moves his wings so hard and fast they make a loud rasping sound. This morning I was outside standing off to the side of the feeder out on the deck, It was amazing as he was flying dead eye for the feeder, started to bank in to the right and then stopped mid-air and just stayed there, looking at me and then with the blink of an eye turned on a dime and was down and out over the building below me. LOL Must have been the ciggie in my hand that spooked him. When he drinks he hovers away from the feeder and then dive bombs the hole with this looooooong curved beak till he's happy. Sometimes he hits the glass on purpose and I think he see's his reflection is why.

His Sweetie pie is almost like Marilyn Monroe in her grace and femininity. This soft appearing grey bird always sits delicately on the right perch and takes her drinks, and after each sip she lifts her head holding her beak way up in the air and moves her throat kind of back and forth as she swallows, and then it's back for another sip.

I could go on, as they are such incredible birds, but they start feeding right before the first break of light and long after dusk, until darkness starts to set in. My precious Anna's Hummingbirds. I know that because I can hear them flying, ;) Scandi

just for rc--- go to the lady's of indy....hope this works!

make sure you go thru all 25--- the last 2 or 3 i think you will really like

Very nice j2mirish ! I must tell you however, my favorite pictures are taken in the cars - well okay I admit I think Danica is just about... um, a nice looking young lady. :blushing: But, I totally admire her guts and skill a whole lot more.

I think I prefer this: (note don't turn your speakers up high - kinda middle)

http://promo.motorola.com/motodanica/index.html

Also, I am absolutely ticked with Sarah Fisher's team - one of her crew members introduced methanol into her fuel tank (27%) before quals on pole day - major no no and they got caught. Don't like that cheating stuff.

I said in an earlier post today, one of my favorite things to call people like that under my breath is--- you dumba$$......certainly fits here---:behindbar thanks for the link- i will check it a little later- in between dinner, kids and hubby right now- just snuck a minute !!

Thought I'd post a bit here after seeing the movie since there are bunches of Johnny Depp/Pirates fans.

Is definitely a must see! It does go back to being more like the first but then adds in some great special effects like the second and turns out to be the best of all in the series. I'll be going to see it a second time. Very funny also. Sorry RC, no horses but Shrek has a donkey ;)

As for the sequels, my picks:
1. Pirates of The Carribean/World's End-A+
2. Shrek 3-A
3. Spiderman 3-B+

I never knew that when I quit my job that I'd be working harder than ever on the ranch. The BarnGod has been helping others fix their fences for years, but neglected our own. Finally we are totally re-doing our own. I have been helping, using two tractors: one to pull posts and the other to dig post holes. Then we have to string wire. We're still at it. Unfortunately, we've had a string of issues with horses requiring calling the vet out. Our big Belgian, having been recently shod, started favoring a foreleg. Poor boy can hardly walk. One of our spotted drafts (older) has not gained weight recently and some of his hide is getting very hard and wrinkled. Our quarter Palamino almost tore off her nose on a gate when working at the sale barn. The vet at the sale barn spent 2 hours stitching her nostril inside and out. We then had to irrigate her nasal passage and give her penicillin as well as a shot of bute to reduce the swelling. Penicillin for three more days. Our regular vet came out today to check out the Belgian and Spotted Draft. We think it may be a stone bruise under the hoof as he tested him and found sensativity. Again, Penicilin and bute tablets. If no improvement he'll drill a hole in the frog area of the hoof and drain any infection if there. The most interest and intriguing was the hide of the paint draft. It seems as if some horses livers can quit processing chorophyll in feed, causing endorphins not to react to photosynthisis. In other words severe sunburn on the white parts of the hide. It is literally peeling off as a severe sunburn would. Poor baby is literally losing his hide. It feels very hard on his white parts and normal on the black parts. Nothing we can do. He will slough off the skin and new skin is definitely under and has white hair. The vet says it will grow back and he'll be just fine. In the meantime, we need to spray scaret oil on the tender raw skin, then soften with udder balm. Also we are going to use tea tree oil. I found it helpful on our Palamino mare that foaled. She had some spots that needed help. With wire cuts, castrations and now this, we are helping to support our vets. The BarnGod is having to mix and match 3 teams of horses as he starts in earnest driving for our attraction here: Old Town to the historic Kit Carson County Carousel each weekend from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

I'm glad you gave Shrek 3 a good rating. Our little town actually started showing it last week and will continue this weekend. It's only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We plan to go tomorrow night. I'm pretty sure they will bring in Pirates and Spiderman. Most movies here are family type movies.

I don't go to the movies all that often, but I do like to go every few months, LOL. And yet, I've been kinda bummed that I haven't seen much lately that made me want to go. But I have been looking forward to Pirates 3 and Shrek 3...so thanks! I'm so happy to have 2 that I want to see!
