oh you are so damn reasonable it takes the fun out of everything!
Can;t you just be rotten for a change?
My dearest JBean,:blowkiss:
I know what you mean! Nova is always getting me to see things in a different light and I end up changing my original thoughts. Even at times I am in a certain mindset, Nova always steers me to rethink and repost.

(Thank-you my very dearest Nova for all of your advise.)

You guys are too kind. I hope I'm not sounding "holier than thou" in this conversation. I have the same visceral reactions that everyone else has.

But something about the reporting on this matter has reminded me how unreliable supposedly "legitimate" news sources have become in this era of Big Corporation domination of media, downsizing of newsrooms, rushing to print without getting a second confirmation and reporting "what was reported" rather than what is true.

I'm convinced the early reports of a "board across the moat" and the tiger climbing up a "dangled leg" came from speculation that Jack Hanna pulled out of his fundament. And he wasn't within a thousand miles of the scene (and almost certainly didn't mean for his words to take on a life of their own)!

ds, the phone call from Sousa's father to the brothers happened before the attack. I'm not sure, but I think they were covering for their friend, who had blown off Christmas dinner with his family. (Not that that makes it admirable, of course, but at that point, they didn't know the man's son would end up dead.)
My dearest Nova,:blowkiss:
That is why I changed my mind, the call was before the attack and they did not understand the concern of the father. I did not know the worry that my parents went through until I had a child of my own.

I think we can all agree that the dead boy's parents deserve our most heartfelt sympathy. The death of any child must be nearly unbearable. I can only wonder what it's like to lose your child to something so totally bizarre and unlikely!

Well there you go again!
You just had me reflect back to the Sago Mine tragedy. I was watching the news reports glued to my tv. It was said that there were 12 survivors and 1 dead. I was watching when a woman and child ran up to the reporter to say that only one abulance left and the other 12 were dead. The owner of the mine told people that the survivors were going to meet family in the church after being rescued. I thought it was strange that something like that would happen. Anyway, it was in the newspapers the next day that there were 12 survivors. There was only 1.
Also, I have the Washington Post newspaper headlining that Princess Di survived the crash.

So I understand what you are saying about news reports. Thank-you my friend.

So much Love and Respect for you,

ds, there's a bigger issue here, but I don't want to hijack the tiger thread. There have always been errors in media reporting, but due to the factors I listed above and one I neglected (the demand for "instant" reporting in real time), I fear we are reaching the stage where we can't know what to believe.

I guess that's why we come here and help each other sort it out. :blowkiss:

Good point Nova:), and I very much enjoy reading your posts.

I think I heard the beginning of the the board over the moat rumor as it began. Before Jack Hanna would have known the true height of the grotto, he stated on cable news that perhaps someone through a board over the moat. He couldn't believe that any tiger could scale an 18' (or whatever height the grotto was originally reported as being), and he seemed to be theorizing how the tiger might have escaped.

Then the media and the public who heard that or heard that it was reported ran with it. Even the best intentioned folks do this at times. I am soooo anal retentive concerning keeping facts separate from theories, and I have inadvertently done this, too.

That's exactly what I concluded after searching reports on-line. I'm sure Hanna himself intended no such thing.

And, yes, you and I do run with reports we hear, sometimes without clarifying them.

But there used to be a rule that respectable journalists didn't report anything without confirming it with a second source. (All the President's Men deals in detail with the problem of finding other sources to confirm what Woodward and Bernstein were hearing from Deep Throat.)

I fear that rule is seldom followed these days.

The other way they get around the problem of confirmation is by reporting "it has been reported that..." -- which can mean anything. And then another outlet runs with that, etc.

ds, I believe the toxicological tests are still pending. If the brothers have been charged with anything, it hasn't been reported.

ds and linus, I don't think we know whether or not the brothers have "sympathy" for the victim's family. We have the father saying they haven't called him, and one may opine that such failure is bad manners. But we don't know how the brothers feel.

Much is being made of the brothers' failure to give their names to police. Does anyone know how long they refused to do so? For all I know, it was a moment of childish spite and they provided their names shortly afterward.

But Nova, add that to the fact that they lied about Souza's wherabouts when his father called to ask where he was when they were on their way to the zoo...

I know we're not dealing with angels here, but how many people gave their parents a phony excuse to avoid a family dinner sometime over the past few weeks?

Not nice, we'll agree, but not necessarily sinister.

No, but taken with the fact that they wouldn't contact the father afterward, or even give the police Souza's name is pretty callous, IMO. It was one of the Dhaliwal brothers that lied about going to the zoo, Souza Sr. didn't talk to his son.

John Gibson on Fox new gave Mark Geragos a loser of the week award for representing these brothers. I'm not sure what his reason was,but either way,I'll agree with him. I don't like Mark Geragos.

That imo was like waving a big red flag.
No cooperating with the cops and then lying to the dead boy's father-------that screamed involvement of some kind.

While WS was down, I ran across a link somewhere saying LE was asking that the pictures on their cell phones be saved.

I bet it's too late for that.

Thank-you for that post. Do you think that the cell company will have a download of the images if they took any?

Yes, both sides are fighting over the cell phone. Besides possible incriminating pictures of them wrong-doing, there may also be phone records of them calling for help, or text-messaging. The phone logs would be saved by the cell provider and the phone should have a memory card with the pictures stored on it.
