For those who can pinky swear and still have access to this forum-this is what I have learned from family and LE today:

  • Tawni was picked up for shop lifting on 1/25/99. Her stepfather brought her home from the police station at 9pm.
  • Her mother let her spend the night at a friends after a huge arguement about the shoplifting.
  • Tawni returned the next day with a woman fitting LDJ's description. It took Tawni and the woman 1 hour to pack Tawni up for a few days. Tawni told her mother that the woman was a new sweet friend she would be spending a few days with. She said she had met the woman the previous evening at her friends house.
  • The woman told Tawni's mom that she would bring Tawni back in a few days when Tawni cooled off.
  • They left the house at 12PM on 1/26/99.
  • By 2:13PM, Tawni was out of the car critically injured on the highway.
  • Tawni left the home in jeans, a scrunchy and a tank top with a black piece of luggage no makeup.
  • Tawni was found with a black mini, shoeless, with/without underwear and a white tank top heavily made up.

WW and LDJ claimed that all three stopped at a house-now Believe starts to wonder....could she have been raped at the home? She had a fat lip and at least one bruise on her breast that looked like it didn't fit in with the trip out of the car window. She appeared to have no underwear or torn underwear.

The ME report indicates no sign on her genitals of a forcible assault, but perhaps she was smacked around until she complied some and a condom was used. An assault kit was done, but I could find no indication that it was processed and this does not fall in with the responsibilities of the ME.

HMMMMMM.

Once they hit the highway, they were headed straight into the desert-perhaps Tawni believed that she was going to be killed?

Will she?! Will they arrest me if I take my CAMERA PHONE? LOL
Vask - I will try to find the link again to Alonzo's hearing. I don't think you need to do anything but be there - should be a public hearing. What I'm hoping is that they will read new charges in relation to Tawni's case. And LDJ should be there too!

I know I'm going to overstep a few boundaries here, but well.. I'm just going to say it for my own peace of mind.

Although I know it's pretty early in the game yet and we all are having emotions run amuck regarding the news of Tawni's name being finally uncovered, I think it's kind of presumptious and off track to focus on the family dynamic. Whether or not her family was dysfunctional seems irrelevant and unfair to discuss when several members of her family are posting amongst us. They're going through enough as is, I just think bringing the family issues up only adds fuel to the fire.

The real issue here SHOULD be getting Lindsay DeJong and Alfonso Fernadez to squirm until they give the REAL accounts as to what happened. Sorry, there's no way, no how Tawni or ANYONE would be able to jump out of a car window going 75 miles per hour. That's not physiologically possible. Granted, I've NEVER been a science whiz, and there's a good reason why I was a Communications major here, but it just doesn't seem passable. If she jumped out of a car going 75 mph, I can only believe that she would have been in worse shape than she actually was in.

There's too many lies and too many inadequacies in their stories to pass for me. That's what I want to focus on most, getting answers.

You are (mostly) correct GH. What's left now is justice for Tawni. HOWEVER, we cannot overlook the fact that she went UID for 9 1/2+ years. In terms of the work that has been done on this particular case, the family dynamics and missing persons report (or lack of) are important. There are thousands of missing and UID's out there. If we are to learn from this, all needs to be known, warts and all!

I have no idea if she'll be there or what is happening with her. But based on what believe has posted, she SHOULD be there! Dumb-azz! No wonder she's been quaking in her boots all these years....:furious:

Especially if she was the mystery woman who helped her pack that day. I wonder if Tawni's mother has been shown any photographs of LDJ to yay or nay her.

I just realized something.. didn't I see somewhere that Tawni died 5 days after her mom tried to file a report? Yet in Believe's post her mom actually saw her the day she died?

I received a communication from the ME regarding Tawni's case:

  • A Missing Persons report was indeed filed for her at the Scottsdale Police Department. They indicated that they had jurisdiction over Tawni's case. I have already requested a copy of the report from LE, so let's not hammer them with requests lol.
  • The ME is working on a timeline of events that she cannot share because it is now part of an active investigation, but she indicated to me that Scottsdale did not drop the ball regarding Tawni's case and that there is a great deal of information regarding her that was NOT released to the general public.
  • The ME would like us to keep in mind in the future that making judgments and pronouncements regarding UID cases will most likely be based on limited information, so we might want to be more circumspect in the future.
Now, IMHO, she is likely unaware that we have the redacted police report from Pinal County etc...but she is correct that we did and do not have everything that we need to make solid judgments-she is going to check and see if the SA kit was ever processed.

I hope it was processed..

This is probably the house that Lindsey said they stopped at. Alonzo could have been out in the car waiting some where around the corner. I don't think Tawni was in fear of her life. I think she knew Alonzo and Lindsey. I do think it's possible Tawni and Lindsey were fighting. Also since she was a minor the police usually take kids to the police station so the parents have to come and pick them up when they are caught shoplifting. They do not arrest them they are usually just given a ticket because it is a simple misdemeanor so I doubt she was finger printed at that time.

Ok I just read the intial report and it completely blows every story I've heard regarding this case out of the water.

So now, the entire "picked up at the Circle K" theory has been shot to hell... On top of things, the mother saw Tawni leave with a person who matches the description of Lindsay DeJong and less than two hours later, Tawni was dead.

I'm almost at a complete loss for words.........

No she died 5 days after she ran away. That's what Kelli said to begin with. :waitasec:
We need this clarified!!

thinking out loud.
It's possible Tawni's mother filed the missing persons report 5 days later on 01/31/99. That would account for the 5 days.

After reading what believe has shared and having read the LE report, it sure fits in well with some of LDJ's statements- the bits of truth which came out with her lies. What makes me most sick, LDJ is a mother now! How could she have kept this for so long having a baby girl herself. I have a feeling both WW and LDJ are going to be facing some serious charges. Especially if Tawni's family or LE is able to track down eye witnesses who were with Tawni when she met LDJ and WW.

What throws me is RA's statements, unless of course Tawni had run away previously and had actually ran across LDJ and WW prior to the evening before as she told her mother.

I wonder how long she had been in AZ with her mom before she ran away? I know she was living with the mom's sister in Ma before going to AZ to live with her mom.

Ok, here's my thoughts so far. They were seen at the car dealership around 1:00. Left her mom's around noon. How did her mom know that the woman matched LDJ's description? Do we have a pic of LDJ? I think Tawni maybe thought about leaving town after the fight with her mom and then when it came down to it, she didn't want to leave. I would like to know more about the woman she left her mom's house to go stay with. Was Tawni still in HS then? (not sure if that's been mentioned)

Does anyone think, based off the conflicting dress she left the house with and the ones she were found in, that perhaps they were taking her for her first "deal" and Tawni tried to fight having to sacrifice her moral beliefs like that?

If she was, she'd either have been in Gilbert High School or Highland High and neither of them ever seemed to confirm her as a missing person, which is extremely unusual.

If she frequented the Van Buren area a lot.. RA's statements might have some credibility. She made it seem almost certain that Tawni was a prostitute though. I'm anxious to know how this prostitution theory became. Did she start that day?.. Had she been doing it for a while?.. Was Lindsay trying to cover her own ass? :waitasec:

Tawni was trying to obtain her GED in a special program (in MASS), according to one of her family members, I think.
