Major Domestic Violence involved. The shooter I mean in NS.The Nova Scotia thing was a LOT different, because it had multiple sites over a couple of days, and they weren't sure at first who was doing it. That was definitely one of the strangest mass crimes I've ever heard of.
See up thread #7, NS shooting was worse than polyT.I did not see this massacre in the news. That is terrible.
This is one of Canada's deadliest mass killing and school shooting. It is the deadliest school shooting since Montreal École Polytechnique Massacre in 1989.

This is all I have seen ... no real specifics on that yet.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene – a long gun and a modified handgun. Police are still working to determine their origins and role in the incident.
The suspect had a firearms license that had expired in 2024 and did not currently have any firearms registered to her.
"The suspect in the fatal shooting at a high school and a nearby home in Canada was an 18-year-old woman, the Canadian National Police confirmed. More information is also available about the victims. [Nine] people were killed and at least [27] were injured in the attack. The shooter, Jesse van Rootselaar, subsequently took his own life.Female suspect? That is very unusual for school shootings.
The suspect, who dropped out of school four years ago, had previously been arrested and treated for her problems. Police say weapons played a role in this. Two years ago, firearms were seized from her. She had a permit, but it expired in 2024. There were also no firearms registered in her name. Police found two weapons during the massacre."
The last time police contacted her was last spring. Police believe she acted alone.

There were more fatalities in 1989, but yesterday's shooting did have more victims.See up thread #7, NS shooting was worse than polyT.
Any firearms she possessed at the time would have been borrowed or stolen. She was a minor, which does not allow lawful acquisition or ownership. Someone allowed this person to have use of their guns, or at the very least did not realize this person stole their guns.

Hugs to you and your brother. My son was a 'collector of outcasts'. He tried to help those who were struggling. Sometimes it worked out well, and other times not. We all want to help those in need. I'm sorry that your brother's actions weren't 'enough' but he tried to be a good person. You can't ask for more than that.Moo.. my brother went to Sturgeon Creek High School. Winnipeg 1978. He befriended him, because the shooter was very emotionally, socially isolated...
"The victims found in the suspect's family home were a 39-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy. The woman has been identified as Jennifer Strang, the mother of the suspect. It is believed the other victim was the step-brother of the suspect.

Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald, the commanding officer for the RCMP in B.C., identified the suspect as Jesse Van Rootselaar, 18, of Tumbler Ridge. McDonald said police had responded to Van Rootselaar's home for mental health-related calls over the last several years. He said some of the calls dealt with weapons.
...
McDonald said Van Rootselaar identified as female but was assigned male at birth. McDonald said she began to transition about six years ago. The officer said police have not found any note yet from Van Rootselaar but it's possible one was written.

I just heard on CBC TV that the family lived a somewhat nomadic existence as the suspect was growing up, living in various locations. There was an ex involved. The mother wanted to move to Newfoundland. Powell River, BC and I believe Alberta were also mentioned. Guns were in the home, as is often the case with mass shooters.Re mental health calls
I wonder if the perp was under the care of a psychiatrist??
I mean
was this person psychiatrically diagnosed and treated?
And what does it mean
this person dropped out of school at 14??
Does it mean this person was individually taught by school teachers?
Maybe online lessons?
(I ask as where I live education is compulsory till 18)
Hmmm.....
So many questions
