The Nova Scotia thing was a LOT different, because it had multiple sites over a couple of days, and they weren't sure at first who was doing it. That was definitely one of the strangest mass crimes I've ever heard of.

This is one of Canada's deadliest mass killing and school shooting. It is the deadliest school shooting since Montreal École Polytechnique Massacre in 1989.

This is all I have seen ... no real specifics on that yet.

Two firearms were recovered at the scene – a long gun and a modified handgun. Police are still working to determine their origins and role in the incident.

The suspect had a firearms license that had expired in 2024 and did not currently have any firearms registered to her.

The handgun is interesting and immediately stood out to me. You must be 18 to get an RPAL (handgun licence, basically) in Canada. However, there's been a national freeze on the acquisition of handguns in Canada since October of 2022, which means the suspect was never old enough to legally acquire a handgun before the ban.

Therefore, there's two logical conclusions I can think of:
1) The gun was stolen
2) The gun belonged to someone they know

In a community that small and that rural, I'd be willing to bet it's the latter. I'm sure this will come out early in the investigation, if it isn't already known by LE.

11,12, 13 years old... babies. I'm so heartbroken for these poor children and all the kids at this school who are going to be haunted by this for the rest of their lives. Things like this shouldn't be happening in 2026. Also sounds like the total number of deceased has lowered to 9, it seems.

The actions of the young female who went to the neighbours probably saved several additional lives from being lost. Thankfully her life was spared and the neighbours were home. Sounds like a remarkable quick reponse by police. It’s always so heartbreaking why the desire for the shooter to destroy other innocent lives in situations such as this.

“A family member to the shooter told the neighbours about the initial killings, prompting a call to police.

“We were called because a neighbour – there was a young female at that home that went to the neighbour’s – and that’s how we learned there were two deceased at that residence,” RCMP Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald said.

“The incident at the home occurred first, and from there our suspect attended the school and commenced their criminal activity there, and that’s how we learned there were two deceased at that residence,” McDonald added….

There were more fatalities in 1989, but yesterday's shooting did have more victims.

The thing that's always gotten me about the 1989 shooting was that one of the police officers called to the scene showed up knowing that he might find his own daughter dead, and he did.

Hugs to you and your brother. My son was a 'collector of outcasts'. He tried to help those who were struggling. Sometimes it worked out well, and other times not. We all want to help those in need. I'm sorry that your brother's actions weren't 'enough' but he tried to be a good person. You can't ask for more than that.

I wonder if the perp was under the care of a psychiatrist??
I mean
was this person psychiatrically diagnosed and treated?

And what does it mean
this person dropped out of school at 14??
Does it mean this person was individually taught by school teachers?
Maybe online lessons?
(I ask as where I live education is compulsory till 18)

I just heard on CBC TV that the family lived a somewhat nomadic existence as the suspect was growing up, living in various locations. There was an ex involved. The mother wanted to move to Newfoundland. Powell River, BC and I believe Alberta were also mentioned. Guns were in the home, as is often the case with mass shooters.
