Two mothers: a picture is worth a thousand words

The photos from this press conference have always seemed really awkward of Terri to me, even before she was a person of intrest. She just looks out of place, odd, and pretending to be sad.

From the very first time I saw this press conference, I also felt that Kaine's body language, and shifty eyes were odd. He continued to seem that way for the next couple of press conferences (without TH).

I came to think that this was because he suspected TH in the beginning (during the time of this conference) but couldn't show it publicly. I also have begun to wonder, recently, if it might also be because he actually knew a lot more about TH's personality and behavior patterns than he had told Desiree, and he was feeling nervous, guilty, ashamed, worried about people turning on him if they realized what he knew?

Just speculating.

By the 11th they already had their suspicisons (per K&D):

1. Between 10:10 in the morning and 11:39, Terri claimed she drove her daughter Kiara around on rural roads in the family’s white truck because Kiara had an earache. She claimed she was trying to soothe the toddler with the motion of the vehicle.

2. Sources said she also e-mailed the teacher to find out when she could come pick up the project as she had not taken it home.

Yet according to Kaine Horman, that was the very reason Terri requested to drive the truck that day to Skyline School.

He said in an e-mail to KATU News: “I typically drive the truck and Terri drives the car. She wanted to use the truck to bring Kyron's science fair project home, easier done with the truck than the car."

3. She fully cooperated and took the first polygraph then subsequently vented her failed results to all family, friends, and law enforcement at the house. A few days later she cooperated and went to take a second polygraph test but got up and walked out before the machine portion of the test could be administered... again by her own statement to family, friends, and law enforcement at the house ...She continually pushed back and refused to repeat the second test for several days (approx. 8-10) before going to take the test and then once again coming back to the house and venting to all listeners.

Note: I do not know the dates of the polygraphs, but I believe the first one was prior to the 11th.

4. she wrote in one e-mail to a KATU News source the day after her stepson, Kyron Horman vanished from Skyline School during a science fair. Investigators say Terri Horman was the last person to see Kyron.

“The teacher thought I said I was going to take Kyron with K for a doctor’s appt.,” she wrote on June 5, 2010.

“I said I was going to look at other exhibits - how do you mess that up? His coat and backpack were still at school. I left the school at 9 and he was seen with a man ‘chaperone’ and 2 girls after I left. There were no men on the chaperone list. That and it was highly chaotic - had to been 300 people running around - no coordination ...”

In short, I think there was a lot of suspicion on TH the day of the presser

Let's stay on topic with the OP please. :) Analyzing TH and DY.

This post lands at random.

Just speculating.

Terri took her first polygraph on Monday, June 7. According to Kaine, she failed. According to Ron Tarver, he went to Portland to pick up J four days after he arrived in Portland, because of the craziness in the house, which was indicated to him when on the phone with J. J mentioned the polygraph, and Terri started screaming at J not to discuss it. J. arrived in Portland on June 5, the day after Kyron disappeared, and Ron picked him up on June 9, two days before the family's first presser.

I think that Kaine was already concerned that something wasn't right by the time the family had the first press conference. He looks perturbed with Terri, almost like he's her parent and he suspects that she's done a bad thing. She is so childlike and needy in that conference, seeking comfort from everyone around her. It is a very odd appearance.

Another noteworthy thing to mention in this thread. For all the sniffling she did into the Kleenex... it's dry.

Desiree had to know that Terri had failed that first polygraph and walked out on the second one, because--can't remember where it was mentioned, but I remember reading that--Terri came back to the house ranting to anyone who'd listen about being persecuted.

And Tony Young said in the early Dateline appearance that Terri thought she was persecuted from Day 1.

Terri also appears to speak to Desiree, when Tony is speaking. I wonder what she's saying?

I hope this isn't out of line, but does anyone think LE hired a body language expert to examine that particular press conference when suspicions surrounding TH arose? It seems like a legitimate move given the circumstances. It might have even been wise to have that person sit in on and participate in questioning to apply pressure.

BTW...A huge thank you for the dates and times on J's time in Portland. I remembered RT's comment about the phone call, but couldn't find the article any longer. THANKS!

I agree that Kaine looks conflicted and uncomfortable, also. I do hope LE had someone who is an expert look at the tape of conference. TH's movements are so calculated and almost mechanical.

Don't know, but it obviously had the effect of making Desiree cry even more.

Terri appears to be trying very hard to convince Desieree (and viewers, too) that she's a victim, as well. The obviously unwanted physical contact is just so cruel, in my opinion. First TH hugs Desiree and fails to get a response. Notice that when Desiree wipes her nose, she keeps her left hand in front of her. The second time she wipes her nose, I see TH as trying to take advantage of the situation by putting her hand on Desiree's arm. Trying to force Desiree to reciprocate in some way. It fails.

Finally, when Kaine is speaking, Desiree puts her hand around Tony and appears to turn away from Terri. Most likely, to escape any more of TH's fake consolation. Pretty obvious that Desiree doesn't want TH touching her at all.

How sociopathic can you get to force yourself physically on a person whose child's disappearance is your own doing?

Just my opinion.

She definitely seemed out of place. The others there were devastated, experiencing unimaginable horror. Terri acted like it was a sock that got lost, not child, so what is the big deal? Why is everyone so sad? Oh wait, should I be acting like them? Am I supposed to be sad right now? I better act sad right now! I hope I'm acting sad enough...

But she couldn't. It's like she was a child that was experiencing a death for the first time, a child so young they don't understand what's happened and why everyone is so sad. She couldn't even muster any sadness, and that is just wrong. She should have been sad. She should have been terrified for Kyron's safety. And she wasn't.

It was just odd and creeped me the hell out. My heart broke for Desiree, Kaine, and Tony. I was just perplexed and angered by Terri.

I think this one catches it even more...TH alone with herself...

Desiree is nauseous. Holding her womb. She knows her son has been gone too long for hope against hope. Has no need for Terri-comfort.

Terri assume the classic defensive position. Arm crossed in front of body. At this point she was tired of being interrogated, feeling put out and alone, (as you say) and perhaps thinking about hitting the gym.

I've always thought that Terri put her arm down in front of herself to make a vertical line in front of her belly since she worried a lot about her weight and her pudge could be seen hanging over. The others were lost in their own horror and grief, but Terri seemed to be trying to comfort everyone else instead of being so upset inwardly that she could barely even move. Terri was also massaging her own forearm. Wonder if it was sore or something. Desiree probably didn't like Terri touching her, but at one point Terri and Desiree were standing very close and Desiree must have been slightly leaning against her, because when Terri moved away Desiree lost balance a little bit.

I remember my first impression was that Terri had the look a dog gets when you discipline it, and it comes back to you shame-faced looking for comfort and reassurance. I also thought all of the head leaning and cheek rubbing on Kaine and Desiree was way inappropriate and very uncomfortable to watch. This was also before I thought Terri was involved.

Desiree: in extreme pain, just holding herself together until after the press conference is over. Kaine: goal oriented, let's get the facts out there, but also comforting his wife. Tony: serious and strong for the family and especially his wife, take charge but also clearly affected emotionally. He knows this is bad. Terri: childlike, hangdog, needy, seeking reassurance, touching everyone and rubbing herself on those closest to her.

Of the four, Terri simply stands out as the one person acting oddly. She just does. It's very, very hard to watch this now as all of the anecdotal evidence and circumstantial evidence have backed up that initial impression of her from just that short video clip. It all "fits" an alarming profile of her.

Thanks for blowing up that picture, puf. I actually wondered that watching her dab at her nose repeatedly...

Above BBM.

Exactly Emma. The first sign I notice when someone is pregnant is them putting their hand on their belly just like that...That to me was the most heartwrenching body language of the video...Her baby is not safe where he should be...Her womb aches...

Thanks Puf.
Desiree=Clearly the face of a mother in pain, at the loss of her son.
Terri= I don't know what the he77 that is, maybe, looking at a mother truly in pain.

Terri looks confused and maybe trying to remember something...like what she's been telling people about what she did on June 4th. She could also be worried about the missed doctor's appointment she made for Kyron for the day of that presser, June 11th. Just kidding, of course.

"According to sources, investigators believe Terri Horman was vague about which Friday she was referring to when she gave notified the school of her stepson's anticipated absence, and only after he was missing did she clarify that the doctor's appointment was on June 11, the Friday after the science fair."

What a great point. The presser occurred on the day that Kyron was supposed to visit the doctor for his "mini seizures." I wonder if Terri canceled the appointment. Or I wonder if there was confusion at the doctor's office, just like there was confusion at the school, about when Kyron was to visit. I would love to know if she really did talk to Kyron's doctor about the symptoms she described in the email to that friend.

I always thought Terri looked extremely guilty in that first video, but at that time we were not allowed to say it, and in fact many posters went out of their way to deny that Terri looked or behaved oddly at all...kind of funny how clearly she shows guilt in this video now, with all of the info that has leaked out since...

To me, who was one of the fence people until maybe a week ago, it is funny that I saw her behavior as "guilty" way back in June. I no longer think it is likely that anyone but Terri did away with Kyron, but this video had nothing to do with my belief, even though she reeked of guilt on it.
