“What type of country do we live in when peaceful protesters get more jail time than a woman who guns down a man in his own home? This is America in 2018.

There have been protests in Dallas over police officer Amber Guyger shooting and killing 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean on September 6. Now, as of Monday morning, nine protesters have been in jail for 15 hours and Dallas police refuse to release them.”

Protesters For Botham Jean Spent More Time In Jail Than Amber Guyger

Ugh. That is terrible.

I haven't seen or heard a peep about that and to the point I second guessed if I actually read that reporting seemingly from a credible source. Convening of the grand jury is generally public record just as the names of the panelists and alternates are.

In some states, the jury questionnaires are public record with only driver's license and social security numbers protected.

Is the Grand Jury meeting today as reported?

I'm sorry, but I do not agree that taking the stairs signifies this was a slow code. Clearly, it's evident from the video that life saving measures were being performed. The responders didn't seem to be casually strolling down the hall. Imo, if they were waiting to take the elevator I would agree that would be a slow code.

I don't think this would be a slow code either. Typically from what I've seen, EMS takes their jobs very seriously and work to save lives without all the drama - but who really knows.
Nurse as well and I have taken the elevator to some codes. Just depends on what my role is (1st responder or back-up responder) and how many floors it is. If it's seven floors above me, probably taking the elevator just so I can be functional the second I get there.

Also, I'm thinking it may not be a good thing for EMS to ever take stairs in a code situation. Can you imagine the backlash against them if they were doing CPR and at that time get stuck on the elevator? That would not be good at all and probably reason #1 why they took the stairs.

It is possible, according to residents there, that arriving at or after 10PM can result in your not being able to park on your level.

The resident that did the "door will not stay slightly ajar" and the "this is how dark my room gets" video stated that his room's window faced the open courtyard and suggested it would fill with more incident lighting because of that. I am not sure if she meant from an illumintatd court yard or the big city lights.

Okay so lets debate ..

What was their excuse to why they couldn't get out? And if you say because of a bond hearing, I may just lose it lol .. o_O
Nine people were arrested after blocking traffic during protests outside of a Dallas Cowboys game at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, police said.

Each were booked into the Arlington city jail between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday, and bond had not yet been set by Monday afternoon.

The protesters were arrested about 7:30 p.m. Sunday after they had blocked traffic at N. Collins Street and E. Randol Mill Road outside of AT&T Stadium, Arlington police spokesman Lt. Christopher Cook said.

Cook said Tarrant County sheriff's department officials came to pick up the nine arrestees around 1 p.m. Monday to take them to the county jail. By 4 p.m., only two of the nine appeared in Tarrant County Jail logs, but Cook said it could take some time before they are all fully booked in.

Arlington police can't set bond for arrests involving Class B misdemeanor charges or higher — inmates have to first be transferred to the Tarrant County Jail and go before a magistrate to have their bond set, Cook said.

He said the sheriff's office picks up inmates from the Arlington jail only once a day.

Merritt said police could've opted to charge the protesters with a lesser Class C misdemeanor, rather than the Class B highway obstruction charge, so they could be cited and released. Cook said police had no option to give the protesters a different charge.

“Another protest is set to begin at 7 p.m. Monday in front of Dallas police headquarters. Protests "will continue indefinitely in the city of Dallas and Arlington until justice is serviced," Merritt said.”

Bail amounts should only be enough to assure an appearance per the 8th amendment. Amount determined based on flight risk. Many should be ROR, zero money, as the fear of a misdemeanor or felony failure to appear should assure appearances.

However, welcome to Merika where bail amounts are calculated to extract as much money from a person charged as they can get which makes profit for the bondsmen while reducing the arrested person's ability to retain vigorous representation.

The racket results in poor innocent people sitting in jail while wealthy people with means to make flight are only inconvenienced.

I have no idea why any of the protesters remain jailed. Parole or probation violations, outstanding warrants, or maybe simply not any money to bond out much less put up cash bail?

What was their excuse to why they couldn't get out? And if you say because of a bond hearing, I may just lose it lol .. o_O

Assuming they have no legal right to keep them, like parole or probation violations, outstanding warrants, child support issues or whatever..... well if they are holding them just because they can, that sounds like Montgomery Alabama in the 1950s sans vicious dogs and water hoses.

nine protesters have been in jail for 15 hours and Dallas police refuse to release them."

Okay so lets debate .. Well not actually debate but put our thinking caps on. She parks in the garage on the wrong floor according to her but I really don't understand how she could have done that .. I believe there are 4 floors. The 4th floor would be the last parking deck until you hit the very top. Furthermore, it has a little clubhouse/rooftop deck on there that I am sure people love to go up there, so she didn't hear them either? Maybe there wasn't anyone up there but you want me to believe that she really parked on the wrong floor that only has 4 floors. Please correct me if I am wrong but huge shoutout to google for being not only reliable in my college years but for being a loyal companion in life :) Here are some pictures. Based on the video where the girl posted AG and the EMTs I truly believe that the one circled - top is BJ apartment circled, bottom is her more than likely and the red circle I feel like was the neighbors that recorded her in the hall. Let me know if ya'll think different but I'm willing to bet thats where it located based off of the fact that I did a whole 360 around the apartments on google map and thats the only place that it is set up like that .. let me point out i don't know which side his and her apartments are but I am willing to bet based off of video, those are the floors and possible places. The stairs are just random - I just wanted to show you what they look like. They aren't his that I am aware of.. and I clearly took a picture from google so I had to make sure she was marked out. lol

What do yall think now, that you've seen the pictures?

Even getting home at night, I don’t believe she didn’t immediately notice she was on the roof of the garage vs the covered floor where she normally parks. IMO this wrong floor error is just to set up the shooting.

“At this point, the protesters’ ordeal has lasted 15 hours,” Merritt said. “These activists were arrested for blocking an entrance. Amber Guyger was arrested for killing a man and she was released within two hours.”

She said she was on the 4th level of the parking garage. 5th level is not covered. Parking garage has 5 levels.
The complex has a total of 5 stories. Lobby and floors 1 - 4. 1 - 4 are apartments.

How many arrested protesters posted bail, made bond or were Released On Recognizance? I think I read the intro to an article you linked that 9 are being held with DPD refusing to release them. Why? There may be a valid reason and if so, that reason is public record.

What are the odds that on that night his door closing mechanism failed?

Not so much about the odds that it failed "that" night - but that it may not have been properly adjusted at all. Some tenants would bring it to the attention of management and request it be fixed right away and others might think it wasn't that big of a deal and report it later.

This case just gets bigger and bigger. What a mess.

Videos from multiple residents show theirs working perfectly. The building was newly constructed in 2015 so it shouldn't be old and worn out?

As your District Attorney, I want you to know that I am committed to aggressively pursuing and investigating the shooting death of 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean by Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger that occurred on Thursday, September 6, 2018 – as I am with every case that’s presented to the DAs Office.

But I want to stress that a rush to judgement serves no one. Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger has admitted to shooting and killing Botham Jean. It is now up to my office to determine how and why it happened and how justice can best be served in this case.

Now is the time to ask for calm in our communities until all the facts are known and presented to a Grand Jury. I also am asking citizens to have faith and patience during the investigation process. You have my word that no stone will be left unturned as we work to uncover all the facts in this case.

Some citizens have asked for a timeline for when this case will go the Grand Jury. While we are working as quickly and efficiently as we can, it’s impossible to give an exact timeline for completion of this investigation. When a decision by the Grand Jury is made we will provide that information to the public.

I want the public to know that I have met with the Jean family on numerous occasions and remain in contact with them. I have assured them that my office is dedicated to uncovering the truth about what happened to their loved one; Botham Jean, a son, a brother, a nephew who was deeply loved by his family.

I ask for your continued prayers for the Jean family.

As you know, the shooting occurred on Thursday, September 6 and the Botham Jean case was officially turned over to the DAs Office by the Texas Rangers on Sunday, September 9, after the Rangers completed their initial investigation. The Rangers’ fuller investigation is ongoing.

The District Attorney’s Public Integrity Division Response team was deployed the night of the shooting and immediately began its own independent investigation with a team of experienced investigators, prosecutors and other professional staff. The District Attorney’s Office becomes involved to ensure a fully transparent and unbiased investigation conducted by an independent, uninvolved law enforcement agency. The DA is now taking the lead on this case.

The team that I put together includes three prosecutors and two investigators from Public Integrity, an appellate prosecutor and an intake/grand jury prosecutor, a victim’s rights coordinator, and a forensic digital media analyst.

I believe it’s important for the public to understand that from the moment the Texas Rangers issued a warrant for manslaughter for Amber Guyger, and the case was turned over to my office, my team has worked around the clock to gather evidence, issue search warrants and talk to witnesses in the pursuit of justice in his case.

It is my duty as your DA, to follow the law every step of the way and to maintain the integrity of this case and every case presented to my office. That’s why I am asking the citizens of Dallas County to allow my team the necessary time to complete their investigation.

While I understand that many citizens are outraged over the shooting and have a lot of unanswered questions right now, I urge you to allow the legal process to work. I can assure you that my team is working night and day to get to the bottom of what happened on the night of September 6.

You must also understand the importance of protecting the integrity of the case. To protect the integrity of the case, we cannot yet talk about the evidence we have gathered or the witnesses that we have talked to.

Releasing details of any case before an investigation is completed is extremely detrimental. It can cause evidence to be thrown out or allow a change of venue in a trial in the event a jury pool is tainted by leaked information.

I want everyone to know that the Jean case is a top priority for me and my office and I’m asking everyone in our community to wait until all the facts are known and to have patience during the investigation process.

I see your point but it isn't like they just need adjusted once during installation and they never fail. When I came to my current hotel it was 6 months old and all were working properly and then a few months in, we started having to adjust them to keep them closing properly and by the time the hotel was 3 years old we had multiple ones that had to be replaced because they couldn't be adjusted any further. And yet, now we are 12 years old and we still have at least 50 % of them that have never needed an adjustment. But our franchise (Hilton) is requiring us to replace them in our renovations with the kind that go at the top of the door instead. I am only guessing (based on 35 yrs in this industry) that the reason for such a requirement is that multiple properties have reported similar issues to what we experienced.

They were arrested at the stadium. It is in Arlington. Arlington is in Tarrant County. DPD is not in the mix at all. Local news station said earlier that they would be transferred to the Tarrant County jail for bond hearing.

Thanks, I don't often go chasing linked articles not accompanied by a sensational headline or some bullet pointed key points that shows me the poster read them and extracted something letting me know what about it they feel may be of interest.

I imagine people on hand helds probably do not either although I'm on a stallion PC that has no problem with 50+ open tabs displayed on massive dual monitors split that make much lighter work of it than some devices.

I usually have that many tabs open on my phone. Plus about a dozen or so apps. It's all in the thumbs. Lol
