Regarding the first gunshot that "missed", do you think it could have been intentional? Maybe for the killer to test her reaction? Just a thought!?
Hello, LouLou,

I do not believe that the killer purposely missed the first shot, IMO. Though, it is possible the first shot was a miss to get a reaction, as the killer is ruthless.

This weekend I went to the annual Seagull Century on VA/MD's Eastern Shore. Very rural area. On the 130+ mile trip back I decided to look at traffic, fast food places, gas stations, hotels and the like along the way to see what trucks were there. A LOT of Toyota Tundra's, Chevy Silverados, Ford F-150's and a few Dodge Rams. No Nissan's. Of any color. Of course, this is rural VA and not TX. I just don't see this Nissan as a very common or popular truck in our area at least. If this happened here, I wouldn't have foreseen an extensive search.

Interesting you mentioned about your truck search as I have conducted my own search. I am out and about often around town. Ole Hawkeye here has been on the lookout for over a month now looking for Nissan frontier trucks to no avail. Actually saw a total of one thus far! They're a rare vehicle around here. Now, if the vehicle shown in the video was a jeep that would be a different story, a very difficult task indeed it would be. Not sure why the truck hasn't been located but we don't know all information LE have in this case. If I got $20 for every jeep I saw I'd be rich!

About an hour after this I came out of a parking lot. I finally saw a Nissan Frontier. Rack on top of cab and no Pro sticker, but it was black.

If only LE could somehow backtrack from the Nissans entry point into the neighborhood using camera footage from local businesses, they could start piecing together the Nissans route up to where it entered the neighborhood by working backwards until the have the starting point of the trip. Then they would geographically know where the criminal started from. This would help narrow down things a lot…possibly.

LE did try to track it OUT of the neighborhood per the timeline:

It would seem logical to try to backtrack as well. Although when the truck left the sun was coming up and it may have been too dark still to pick it out coming in.

I bet the camera footage could still make out the truck driving down the street, even in the dark.

We know where the truck entered the neighborhood and what time. I’d think with time stamp info LE could approach local businesses along the route, and work backwards with camera footage possibly. Kuykendahl road seems to be both the entrance and exit of truck- it appears to be a commercial area with a lot of businesses.

I suppose for the exit, the truck could have been parked and hidden immediately somehow.

But for the entrance- it had to come from somewhere…

The police report released had some interesting information in it. It answered a question I had. I wanted to know when Elizabeth Barraza usually left for work. She usually left for work very close to the time the murder happened. The murder happend right before she would have normally left for work. It would look silly if a murderer goes through all that trouble to find out where Elizabeth Barraza lives only to show up AFTER she had left for work. I have seen garage sale signs in my neighborhood and I can never remember the information on them as I am passing by. Maybe this person already knew where the Barraza's lived regardless of the garage sale?

The other interesting part of the police report was that it was learned there was someone Elizabeth's husband thought may have had issues with his wife. The question I would have is did this person ever visit the Barraza's home?

The reason is I noticed something in the surveillance video of the truck that drove by the Barraza's home before the shooting took place. The truck never uses its brake lights until it is right at the top of the Barraza driveway and can see Elizabeth. It also looks like a tree blocks the viewing path. I think most people if they were looking for an address would be tapping on their brake lights to try and see the house number or some other feature to recognize. Unfortunately, we do not know what the surveillance video shows from the night before so maybe the night before is when the truck used its brake lights looking for the Barraza address? Then it knew exactly where the house was located on the morning of the murder.

Whoever it was seems very lucky. They keep driving around with that Nissan Frontier Pro4X being caught on video. They get out of the truck to commit the murder, but then race back to it on foot. They do not seem to be disturbed by the sound of gunshots they had to know were going to wake up the entire neighborhood.

And at least according to my video observation, I think the murderer may have already known where the Barraza's lived. Then why was the murderer driving around in the neighborhood hours earlier before the murder happened?

Just my theory, but I believe the killer needed to see what vehicle Sergio was driving that day. They may have known where they lived but didn't have knowledge of the vehicle he drove. Plus, Sergio worked for his father's business (flooring?) and they may have more than one vehicle so they had to verify the vehicle. I believe that was the purpose for arriving early and parking so they could see when he left.

OK, after my non-scientific observation of the number of Nissan PRO-X's are out there I decided to try something else.
I went to a web site,
And for years 2013-9 I have the following sales figures:
Chevy Silverado 3932604
Ford F series 5822026
Toyoto Tundra 810810
Dodge Ram 3405533
Nissan Frontier 513278
Nissan Frontiers are 3.7% of those sales. And then we aren't even talking color (black) or style (PRO-X). This is one unique truck. Assuming truck sales in that part of the US follow the national trend.

  • 01/24/2019 = Thursday
  • Evening Liz and Sergio discuss the Garage Sale setup - Friday 01/25 and Saturday 01/26.
  • Evening Sergio and Liz place garage sale signs in the neighborhood announcing the garage sale running from Friday 1/25 through
    Saturday 01/26.
  • 01/25/2019 = Friday
  • Early Morning [Approximately 02:00 AM] Black Nissan Frontier observed on neighborhood cameras driving by Liz’s house.

As shown in video the truck was in the neighborhood early morning hour of 12:30 am and/or 2:00 am and it's possible during this drive-by that the killer did not see the garage sale signs that were placed by LB and SB on Thurs., 1/24/2019.

Texas requires vehicles to place the registration sticker on the driver's side bottom corner of the windshield. In viewing videos of the "truck" I did not notice a reg. sticker in the front windshield. Maybe the vehicle is from out of state? Thoughts anyone? Would like to hear what others think.

All IMO only

Good catch. You can see Liz walking down to the end of her driveway to place garage sale sign out, though not sure if she looked up at truck going by or not. I've always been curious if she noticed the truck going by (I look at everyone and every vehicle that goes by my house when I'm outside). First because I am nosey and second that is how I've always been. But, Liz was busy setting up for her sale, so I can see why she would not have noticed the coward. I noticed a light around the license plate area and not sure about that. Can't imagine the tailgate of the truck was down with that light there but who knows?

I think early drive by was to make sure of address and which home was victims.

Is it a rumor that 'someone' had a problem with her... but we don't know who? I might have misread a post.

It's possible. But that brings me to another point. Families can consist of many people living in a home. Maybe the Barraza's had kids or one of their parents was living with them? We know today this is not the case. But how would someone else know that? From the video, it seems like this individual did not hesitate or wait for even a minute to watch Elizabeth before getting out of the truck to approach her.

The video shows that as soon as the murderer realized Elizabeth Barraza was alone outside, they quickly turned the truck around, got out, shot Elizabeth, then got back in the truck and left only to return a few minutes later. Maybe they returned to see if a family member came outside to help Elizabeth? I suppose that could be an answer to my question.

I started to think the murderer already knew that the Barraza family who lives in the home consists of only Sergio and Elizabeth.

Their little doggie Diesel was there, poor thing. I've never heard what happened to him. He had to have been so scared due to those horrific shots fired.

The dog was probably scared and that is why there does not seem to be any barking on the doorbell cam video.

Does anyone know where the newspaper delivery person came from that morning? The neighbor with the dogs on the corner had a newspaper bundle laying up front near their sidewalk that had not been picked up yet,

I have to say I feel sorry for the individual named in the report that went public recently. This person should by no means be referred to as a “suspect”. I have a feeling their name was simply tossed in there. Seems a bit irresponsible.

  • #558
I don’t believe the person mentioned in the police records is responsible … according to my gut feeling. However, supposedly there was more to the story than what was disclosed. Maybe someone else was irate about the going ons in the 501st and thought it would be a good opportunity to kill Liz and remain behind the scene. Never had any conflict with Liz.

I’ve been too focused on the garage sale and its hampered my view of this crime perhaps. I’ve been more focused on the killer knowing about the garage sale but what if the killer had no knowledge of the sale that day, and the killing happened to be planned already for that day and the sale was a surprise to the killer? Really don’t know, all this is of course IMO.

I’ve never seen a Star Wars movie in my life, nor do I know anything about Harry Potter, other than the (HP) author’s history. I did a little research on 501st. Interesting factor, the 501st represents the bad guys "Bad Guys Doing Good” and boy are they doing good! Such valuable incredible volunteer work worldwide! It’s amazing the good these people do.

My original point being the killer was dressed/costumed in a good person outfit that appeared to represent SW character Princess Leia.

MOO and IMO and I am subject to change my opinion.

100% Agreed!

I recall your previous post about the newspaper and wasn't able to locate a newspaper bundle laying up front near sidewalk. I will need to take another look. This is a really important factor you bring up. It's amazing the killer missed not only LE, but newspaper delivery person, school buses, etc. Can't believe Goddard school cameras not working. Taxpayers (parents) should complain about that.
