Also the LE in charge of the case may still be investigating persons who knew her, so they can also be the ones preventing her name being released. I too wish we knew her name so we can honour her properly, but patience is key :).
afaik this is likely still an active investigation. Her killer(s) have not been ID'd and there is a possibility that her name being released could also hinder that. If this sweet girl was as young as what people on WWWCJD and Reddit are saying she was, this investigation is probably multilayered and trying to ensure that other children have not been harmed in similar manners - and her family is likely absolutely devastated as they come to terms with what happened to someone they thought likely ran away, was still alive and doing relatively well. Yes, names are important but we can and should honor her with action - let's all help get some of these other Does home.

Thanks Carl! I was just about to post the link. PC tomorrow at 9:30, I'm assuming the 9:30 is Texas time!

What does that article say? I can't read it in this country :(

It says there's a press conference tomorrow, Tuesday, at 9:30 am (I'm assuming local time). It's pretty short.

The article is very brief: The key part is as follows:

The Walker County Sheriff's Office said it is planning a press conference Tuesday to discuss new details behind the "Walker County Jane Doe" murder case. The case has been unsolved since 1980.

According to Sheriff Clint McRae, the press conference will be at the sheriff's office at 9:30 a.m.

Do we know if it'll be live-streamed to watch online? I know it's a silly question, but it'll be held very early in the morning for me and I don't want to stay up so late if I won't be able to view it :(

It’s not a silly question, I am wondering the same thing. I’m on the East coast and am looking forward to watching it. I hope there’s a way that I can!

I'm also wondering. I'm on the West Coast and was also hoping to catch it. I have to get up bright and early tomorrow, I'll be looking for updates.

For all my fellow West Coasters: it will be 7:30 our time, so make sure to set your alarms!

I hope it'll be streamed. I recommend all of us who want to watch it check back with the WWWCJD FB page periodically tomorrow morning when they can. If there is a livestream I'm sure Carl will post it ASAP. I contacted the Huntsville Police Department on FB previously and they told me her case was not under their jurisdiction and to talk to the Walker County Sheriff on FB, but I couldn't find any Walker County Texas Sheriff pages.

I remember other UID pressers have started late, had connection/Wifi issues, etc., so let's remember not to get discouraged if this happens or we are initially unable to locate it quickly.

Prayers going out to her family.

I'm in Australia, so the conference will be well past midnight for me -n- I hope they stream it too, I don't want to lose my sleep only for it to be inaccessible :P

If there's a livestream on Facebook, Youtube and most other social media sites, you should be able to view it after the fact (and still get a good night's sleep)! They are usually on Facebook, in my experience. You should be able to access it after. Either way I'm sure someone from here or Facebook will download it if it doesn't get livestreamed and automatically saved, for whatever reason. :)

I plan to read about it on Websleuths later. I get too antsy about these things.

Thanks for posting! I am confused on where it will be, since the Walker County Sheriff's Department doesn't seem to have a Facebook. I'll keep my eyes out for these sites.

Perhaps it could be from the genealogy organisation that ID'd her? I'm aware we don't know which organisation took her case, but for example the DNA Doe Project live-streamed Henry Loveless's press conference, so it could be along the same lines. That's the only example I can recall though.

This is such phenomenal news to wake up to! The press conference will be at 5:30pm where I currently am - I will be eagerly awaiting all day. I do wonder whether they will release any additional information regarding her killer.

  • #440
I think that will make it 3.30 pm in the UK. Fingers crossed they know what happened and who killed her. X
