Yuk

Protests are happening - I think this is dangerous I guess all we can all do is hope for the best huh??

It is my hope & prayer that both blacks & whites can forgive & forget & live in peace.

Forgive -- someday, sure. Forget, though? What is that saying...those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it? I mean, would we want to tell the Jews to forget the Holocaust? And would we want fascists to be able to forget the conditions that lead up to it, or to any genocide? No. I think that forgetting is a luxury and a crime for those in positions of power.

Im really frustrated hearing "this happened because"...it's the same thing BLM is sick of hearing. So and so was shot because....just stop. There is no because in this situation. There are no two sides to the story. It's one truth. Innocent people were murdered like sitting ducks.

Thank you Dogface. I am also a little upset by seeing comments that explain why this happened. I thought this thread would be a place to follow the event and not come up with what amounts to (imo) excuses for criminal behavior. The people shot last night had nothing whatsoever to do with anything that previously happened. We don't (and the killer(s) didn't even know these LE officers.) If we search for reasons... quote statistics, explain murders away with the bad deeds of others we are on the edge of condoning these murders imo. As for me, I see this as terrorism. How different is this from the almost daily events we see in the Middle East? Killing people who are not your actual targets in order to "get even" and "pay back" and "make a statement." Nothing justifies or explains these murders for me... any more than the looting of the 7-11 can be justified or explained. Neither event makes sense to me when somehow linked to previous events. I can't mix everything together and come up with this as a natural, reasonable and expected conclusion. Five LE officers were killed last night and I sincerely hope the families never come here and read some of the comments that have been made. I'm fairly new here but I can go back to just reading if this comment offends anyone. I'm sorry but today, I am feeling nothing but sorrow and pain just as I was when the 2 black men were killed. But, if we can justify these murders than, imo, we might as well begin to look for the reasons why ISIS does what it does and give them a pass.

Semantics. More clearly- he REJECTED the peaceful protests tactic taken by BLM. He was NOT a member of BLM.

The only connection between BLM and what he did is that he took advantage of the police presence at a BLM to commit mass murder. It is extremely likely, IMO, that he did so in order to TAINT the BLM movement, hoping an escalation of racial tension will radicalize more blacks.

The thinking of an extremist. And not terribly difficult to differentiate from the legitimate, peaceful, constitutionally guaranteed right of free assembly and speech, aka as democracy in action.

I'm not on the same page, sorry

When the gunfire began, the mayor said, about 20 people in the crowd were carrying rifles and wearing protective equipment. That raised early concerns that they might have been involved. But after conducting interviews, investigators concluded all the shots came from the same attacker.

IMO, every one of those 20 rifle-toting folks is lucky to be alive--as in not mistaken for a shooter and shot at by other rifle-toting folks or LE.

I read somewhere this afternoon that no one was in custody directly related to the shooting.

Can't quickly locate the link. I'll post it if/when I come across it. I read very little other than MSM at times like these, so I am 99% that I read it from local MSM.

Possible no woman was ever arrested or detained.

Possible a woman was questioned and released.

Possible a woman was arrested on an unrelated charge.

DPD does report they arrested a man at the scene on an unrelated weapons charge. Could be anywhere from felon in posession, concealed carry without a license, prohibited weapon (brass knuckles, etc.) and so on.

Hi!

I saw her get arrested last night. She was in the middle of the protest, but did not get a sense that it was like "related" to the shootings...more so like she did something as aprotester that cops did not like moo

It is the great shame of this nation that historically they were not included as lives that mattered for far, far too long.

So do you think that the changes made by white society have just not resulted in attitudes about white people catching up quite yet? That they are still assumed to be a monolithic and hostile group in some circles?

I think the changes are just in white peoples minds. If it were not for the cell phone, all the horrors we have seen will not be known at all. There is still great disparities between the two populations, so the progress being refferred to is it is no longer legal to own a person - past that I am not sure all that mcuh progress has really been made.

Eat in the same room , share bathrooms and water fountians.

The real tradegy here, IMO, is even after videos many are still not supporting these folks being put in jail for breaking the law.

Its all been on video. For the last several years - anyone see any AA threatening a LE person in the videos that have come out??

Imagine all the stuff that goes on without a cell phone on.

Once again, I think I mis-stated my thoughts. I should have said forgive, give up the hatred, & move forward. The sooner we forgive, the sooner we feel peace. Hatred destroys our souls. It hurts us as individuals more than it hurts the person or persons we are hating.

Then, does that mean they ARE aware and responsible for the hate chants and social media rhetoric?

I have not really heard hate chants, I have heard no peace no justice, sounds reasonable wish -- justice. A cop pulls over a car in daylight for a lightulb? Odd of a white couple getting pulled over in broad daylight??/

'We refuse to hate each other': Dallas leaders issue pleas to heal racial strife
Community comes together following deadly sniper attack that killed five police officers

This says it all!!!!!!!! Last night everything was going as it should. Protestors were exercising their constitutional right & Dallas PD was there to provide protection for their fellow men. Everything was exactly as it should have been until a cold blooded killer reared his ugly head!

I would not be surprised that Micah Johnson is an injustice collector/grudge holder. Something seen so often with other mass killers, terrorists, jealous lovers, and bullies. They do not snap and their deep seated resentment festers for a long time. It is likely that Johnson harbors grudges, which date back to his childhood.

I dont think anyone is justifying anything. It was IMo wrong for cops to kill a burned out taillight and selling some cds. I also think it was wrong to go kill cops last night.

However, leaving out the direct cause and effect promises us no change. There have been no marches in some time. The reason why there was marches, and a bunch of cops inone location was directly related to two unustified murders in the previous 48 hours, that , respectfully, is not justifying either party, but without the first two, we would not be here moo

When people react with glee and dancing that officers got killed, I wonder will there EVER be any change???????

How sad!!!!

IMOO.

This is not at ALLLLLLL what happened last night. I have heard exactly ZERO reports of :

-Brent Thompson
- Patrick Zamirripa
- Michael Krol
- Michael Smith
- Lorne Ahrens

killing any AA males. Stop making excuses. These men died while working. I hope you never have a loved one killed and then a whole herd of people who come and say why it makes sense. These 5 did nothing last night but show up to keep the peace and serve the community. Show them an ounce of respect.

So true, we need to keep their names out in the media. They were doing their job during a peaceful protest that should NOT have ever had to happen. LEO make mistakes, and are given the appropriate punishment. We as Americans are killing ourselves. We've got to stop the HATE before it kills us.

I have friends in LE and if you have one, just ask them, "are you afraid?" The answer I get is SOMETIMES but it's my duty I took to protect and serve.

Also, I have family members that are in the navy and a nephew that just took a job as a mall Security Guard, and are they scared to some extent, yes, but that's their jobs.

Let's All as a whole try to get past HATE
Try to treat each other as if it is yourself. JMO

RIP to the victims 🌹

This is what I had wondered. I had tried to type up a narrower, more clear question for her but you saved me the trouble. I felt like there is a big disconnect between many white people's lived experiences and their actual thoughts and feelings about the world around them, and how SOME non-white people perceive or assume them to be from the outside looking in.
