Her role in this tragedy is the decision to take her own life. I am a firm believer that that decision was hers alone. Every thing before that falls on the officer. She has every right to smoke a cigarette if she's not under arrest. She has every right to express her disbelief about his actions. She absolutely has every right to exercise her constitutional rights. The fact that the officer didn't like being challenged only means he is not cut out to be an officer.

Said it before, I'll say it again. Fire 1/2 of the police force and double the pay of the ones you keep so you can attract better officers.
How was it the Troopers Fault that she broke the law?? Actually twice... I respectfully disagree, Sandra Bland has ownership on many levels ... beginning with not following the law to begin with. Had she did that.... we wouldn't be speaking of this. JMHO

Respectfully BBM, that how it works unless you have an agenda... JMHO

Respectfully, the poster to whom you replied has bragged about being stopped multiple times for speeding and yet getting out of tickets by being friendly.

So, for that person to post that people who break the law oughta pay......is ludicrous. If she really felt that way she would insist on paying the multiple fines she deserves.

It seems to always be the people who scream loudest about lawbreaking are those guilty of breaking the most laws.

How does this relate to an Impaired driver high on DOPE on public roadways endangering lives and 6'00 175 lbs fighting with Police ? smh

Hopefully all these excuse makers will never have family / friends killed by an impaired driver and I bet they change their tune .

How about acting like a proper lady instead of a nasty foul mouthed . I empathize family must be so Embarrassed her acting like that . I'd be Ashamed to have a child act like that to ANY human being much less an authority figure .

Been there, done that; you'd lose that bet. I still believe that LEOs should have to follow the procedures put in place to protect both them and citizens they deal with. I also still believe that every citizen of the US deserves to have all of their rights protected, especially when dealing with those who are paid to protect them. I personally hope that the parents and coworkers/supervisors of BE are more embarrassed by his behavior than SBs are with hers. She lost control while trying to exert and protect her rights while he lost control trying to violate them.

She clearly stated that our practice was cut and dried. I have committed my life to my profession and for someone to cast doubt that teachers use peaceful methods to handle scary situations, well that is just accusatory.

The subject only came up after her asking "well what do teachers do?"

She then cast doubt on our truthful answers. That is her right. But it is also our right to defend our practices.

Good night.

My husband taught for 30 years. So I don't like to see anyone demean teachers either. But I didn't read her response as casting doubt on the fact that teachers use peaceful methods or being accusatory. I read it as realistically doubting that the peaceful protocol always works the way it's designed to work in terms of a child's response. That's why I felt that putting such inflammatory words in her mouth was unfair. I think it's possible to defend yourself if necessary without hyperbole. Peace.

I apologize if this has been answered, how do we know it was a white female in the previous traffic stop? Not that it matters but I've seen it stated throughout this thread and I can't tell from the video.

tid bits...

Reading autopsy - she was back a blue on her back, one of the areas still had grass - from I would conclude when he slammed her into the ground.

Her shoulder was brusied, upper back , elbow, and forearm were bruised.

Sheriff in Sandra Bland Case Was Fired in 2008 After Racism, Brutality Allegations

Texas County’s Racial Past Is Seen as Prelude to Sandra Bland’s Death

Harris County Medical Examiner's analysis show levels of THC in Bland's bloodstream that could suggest she ingested marijuana while she was being held in the jail. A more likely scenario according to Assistant Waller County District Attorney Warren Diepraam, is that Bland ingested a very large amount of marijuana prior to her arrest by a Texas state trooper in Prairie View on July 10

.Trooper in Sandra Bland Case Is Under Criminal Probe

growing doubts over whether she was appropriately monitored before her death.

The place where the young Chicago woman was found dead in a jail cell has seen more than a century of racial violence and oppression

had at least 10 encounters herself with police in both Illinois and Texas in past years
she still owed a total of $7,579.00 in court fines resulting from five traffic stops in various Chicago suburbs (including a DUI), and she had been cited several times for her failure to pay those fines. (uninsured motor vehicle and driving with expired license plates

court found her guilty of one DUI charge, and all the other charges were dismissed-on this one LE charged her with: two counts of driving under the influence (???????????? how does that happen?) ; speeding 15-20 mph over the speed limit; improper lane usage; disobeying a traffic control signal; failing to signal when changing lanes; driving on a suspended license, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle

speeding 15-20 mph over the limit.

misdemeanor possession of a small amount of marijuana and driving while intoxicated. Court records show that the DWI charge was dismissed,

misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, but the charge was dismissed.

Driving too fast for conditions or failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

2004 one count of retail theft of less than $150. sentenced to community service and supervision.

Nice of you to say so -- but are you seriously trying to suggest that SB was given that choice to 'pay the fine and move on with life'? Really?

She was going to get a warning for the law she broke.... she was arrested and taken to jail for assault, she went before a judge and was given a bond amount. She had choices. For whatever reason she chose to end her life and not go to court like she was shouting she couldn't wait to do.

Respectfully, that can be done with traffic cams. It is in the UK. Patrol officers pull folks over in part to maintain a "presence".

And probably to see if there are dead bodies or bales of 420 in the back seat.

Wait, just a second. I'm not talking about the suicide at all here -- just about the arrest. And I'm uncomfortable asking this, as, for whatever reason, Arkansas is one of my favorite states (I have been there a few times, and worked just north of the Ozarks for a couple of summers). She was willing to be processed and sign off on her traffic violation, but then things went south. A lot of things happened between her being pulled over and being found dead in her cell -- you make it seem like that was a single action.

Put it this way, if you read or respond to nothing else in this post, do you think that the officer acted professionally and appropriately in this incident?

She didn't ever say or imply that she thinks teachers taze kids, yank them around and scream at them?

Your forgot: leaving multiple bruises on her body, slamming her skull into the ground, hurting her wrists , telling her "good" when she told him she had seizure stuff.

Just as human being if someone tells you I have X would you reply "good" that really freaked me out.

My hunch is that she was black. She told the cop that she was going to summer school at the university, which is 85% black.

Not all traffic offenders are treated the same. Primarily black and white drivers. Take a look at this video. A white guy deliberately provokes cops to stop him. Then he disobeys an unlawful order to turn off his camera, just like Sandra Bland disobeyed an unlawful order to put out her cigarette, but he doesn't get arrested. He doesn't get ordered out of his car and handcuffed. The cop just grovels and gives him his license back anyway. Because he is white and they don't generally arrest white people for stupid things like that. This is a racist country, and anyone who can't see that is just burring their head in the sand.

I'm not going to say this country isn't racist, but I think you're being a bit hard on me just because of the color of my skin (I can't handle being in the sun and have been told I look like I fell into a flour bin.) I not only wonder what the LEOs in that video would have done if the driver hadn't been white, but also how BE would have handled SB's way of dealing with him while in the car if she had been a white female, a white male or a black male. I just haven't completely figured out yet if his problem is with females or black people, people who are other races, or all of the above.

MOO

ETA: I forgot to finish my first thought! I'm white, and I have been arrested a couple times... not for anything this ridiculous, but for things I didn't do - mainly because my brothers turned our family name into something to be feared. :jail:

I just never heard any fear in her voice, and after watching that dash cam video, then watching her FB video's. Then watching the dash cam, she had the same tone and attitude as the videos. JMHO

Have you ever seen cats about to fight? I know that sounds funny and off topic, but it's the only way I can think to explain my thoughts on why SB may have been cursing and insulting after BE yelled at her and she was made to get out of her car.
What (cats) they do is bluff by fluffing up their fur and tail to make themselves look bigger in order to scare the other cat.
I think SB was alarmed and she thought the cursing/tough girl act would make her appear a less likely victim to BE.
Just putting myself in her situation I would be alarmed by the sudden intense anger from BE but I wouldn't show it if it could be helped. IMO

ETA and I'm not comparing SB to a cat just using cats as an example to explain.
ETA I really think she didn't understand that by law she could be made to leave her car and she probably did freak out wondering wth is wrong with this guy.

The first couple of times I saw it it really upset me. He is suppossed to the pro - he should know and use deescalating techniques - they work ! He was totally out of control , " I am gonna light you up"--nausating

I have epilepsy "good" - that is just not ok behavior for a hypothetical pro - I hope he is never running around with a gun or a car with blue lights on it, or handcuffs -- he is scary , patholgoical power and control freak

like much we have all observed in the last 9 months, all over the country, the mumber of rotten apples is out of control --the stuff the last 9 months are folks from all departments all over the country - the only conclusion one can come to is cell phones are bringing a very serious issue to the forefront

I also pondered if a lot of cops dont watch much news - after Ferguson and Trevon, and the almost nightly new video taped hideous behaovr from LE - I began to conclude how on earth can you folks not know , that the days of abusing your power, lying on your reports, falsely arresting people are over

and........................much of the populace-- watching video after video of this nonsense certainly does not make me feel inclined to just gernerally respect them----

Respectfully BBM, can you explain who you are speaking to? "you folks" and who "your power, lying on your reports, falsely arresting people" This is a Web Sleuthing forum, members here do not arrest or lie on reports, or falsely or justly for that matter arrest anyone.

If we notice tho, she nothing that we saw in the video that resmembles assualt - in fact she was relativily calm after a suppossed professionial reached in her vehicle, and yanked her out of the car.

The extent of injuries I just learned about from autopsy clearly indicate the use of excesive force. I would be upset if i was all brused up . She was. An embedded piece of grass in her back, also gives some horrific notion of the impact of being slammed down.

I def think he will be charged, correctly, with excessive force, false arrest and shall do some time IMO

You could be right. In the grand scheme of things the color of her skin doesn't matter. What most of us saw was a polite young lady and I would guess that none of us know her skin tone. Wouldn't it be great if we were all color blind.
