GUILTY UK - Brianna Ghey, 16, murdered in Culcheth Linear Park, Feb 2023 *2 teenagers charged*

Exactly, but the fact they didn't even try to erase the messages shows even more how utterly naive they were. So definitely not smart enough to be using multiple phones, IMO. Because they barely even tried to conceal the evidence on their own phones.
I give up ;)

I want to post more fully about the written note and the texts after the verdict when we are not subject to sub-judice rules.

But at this stage I'll just say, a dynamic here is that according to both prosecution and defence, the plot or fantasy or joke (depending on whose evidence you prefer) was organised over text, but each party may not have believed the other was serious. Girl X will argue, IMO, that the reason the texts and note exist, is precisely because she never imagined that an actual murder would happen.

The jury will have to wrestle with that dynamic.

One aspect of her evidence i want to hear about, is what they were doing in the park all that time, and why she seemingly left the group according to messages with Brianna

“to make it look more realistic. To add to the fantasy”
her answer to every single q so far

I cannot imagine what it is like for Brianna's family to hear Girl X say that she feels really upset about Brianna dying.

Everything they have to see and hear must be agony, but there is something about Girl X saying that which made me feel sick.

Was that definitely her “defence” testimony? I had to double check…..

no closer to knowing why Brianna was texting Girl X in the park or where she went.

Very high quality cross here.

Just putting the link here on the 'active' end of the thread for those of us who don't have the feed open in a tab fulltime.

Can't remember, Not sure, it was all a fantasy

RL doing an excellent job here

Prosecutor doesn't even need to question her, this guy is doing all of the work for her!

I'm sure we will get some prosecution questions in the end though.

Girl X seems to have an answer for everything, but I don't know that they're helping her at all.

MOO

Girl X needed to testify otherwise she couldn’t get her version in to evidence.

Wonder what the jury will make of it.

Obviously there is lots to discuss once the verdict is in.

RP: “After you got that message, you deleted a chat. Do you remember what the chat was that was deleted?”

X: “I’m not sure.”

RP: “Why did you walk away at that time?”

X: “I got a bit bored and wanted to stretch my legs a bit. I started walking around.”

RP: “You told us you wanted to stretch your legs. At that time, did something attract your attention?

X: “When I walked off, I heard a noise. It sounded like someone was screaming. That’s when I turned round.”

RP: “Before you turned around, did you know who was screaming?”

X: “No.”

RP: “When you turned around, what did you see?”

X: “I saw Boy Y stabbing Brianna.”

So in her testimony, she moves a distance away from Brianna and Boy Y, then deleted a chat (but now can't remember what the chat was), then heard the stabbing begin.

They had earlier agreed a codeword to start the stabbing as part of their fantasy, hadn't they?

Yes - they had agreed on code words.

Cross examination continues

Mr Littler reads a message from Girl X to Boy Y: “I’m still trying to kill her and easiest way is pill overdose. People already know she’s depressed.”

RL: “When you say already know she’s depressed, was Brianna a good friend of yours?”

X: “Yeah, she was.”

Mr Littler continues reading the message: “Nobody could get sus. But for some reason she has a high tolerance. I gave her some today that should have been enough to kill her.”

[RL:] "...Were you actually encouraging Boy Y to bring a knife into school?”

X: “No cos again, it’s just fantasy. I thought if I talked to him about bringing the knife, he thought I’d be serious with it."

Justice Yip asks her to repeat her answer.

X: “I thought it was fantasy. I thought if I talked to him about the knife he was take me seriously with it.”

This is a very confusing defense to me. Girl X claims just fantasy, so she was trying to be taken seriously about it... Because it's just fantasy. Eh?

RL: “Was it really exciting to meet Boy Y and Brianna in the park?”

X: “I was kind of implying I was excited about going to kill Brianna, even though I didn’t want to.”

RL: “You were excited about the idea of going to kill Brianna, even though you weren’t going to.”

X: ”Yeah.”

Verdicts (whichever way they go) can't come soon enough so we can comment on the trial.

RL: “After this search, your mother was given the keys to the house two days later. Your mother went to the house and got a lot of your clothes out of the house for you.”

X: “Yeah.”

RL: “When the police go back in March, the jury will remember the picture of the bed with the bin bags on the bed. Did she remove that? Did she remove your pyjamas?”

X: “I don’t think so, no.”

RL: “Are you sure it’s pyjamas and not another hoodie?”

I can’t believe the police might have taken the wrong clothes? They had two days until her mum came in. Are they suggesting the mum has got rid of the blood stained clothes?
How could the police let this happen??
