If cigarette man is the killer, it is just a matter of time until one of his relatives commits a crime and their DNA profile can be used to identify him
It’s not as simple as that though is it ?
Ok we know you were in her car so what ?
I was thumping a lift one day and this woman gave me a lift but I did not ask her name officer. !
Yes I knew her officer but did not want my wife / girlfriend to know !
He was in her car weeks / months before she disappeared !
Does not proof anything .

Add to that...
1. Police have not confirmed the female on the bridge was Claudia. Was the female the partner of the person Claudia was having a relationship with?
2. Just what was going on in the cctv footage from the Melrosegate shops on that morn( Thurs 19th). Who was that person being chased and then physically manhandled under duress all the back towards the Melrosegate shops.
3. Did the cyclist pass Melrosegate shops before passing the female and male on the bridge.. what else did he say he saw on his route that morning. If Claudia had been walking to work as we are being led to believe and he cycled that route on a daily basis was he able to identify the female he saw on the bridge as the same female he had seen on previous days/weeks walking that route at that time of the morning... Did he know Claudia, if not directly then indirectly?
4. The male boarding the bus and purchasing a ticket to Leeds uses his left hand. I know police say that he was traced and eliminated but given that they also say they know peope were lying to them should we be dismissing him. How tall was he, was he a smoker, he shown as wearing a hoodie.

No wonder all the loose ends in this case have people going round in cirlces.

Im disappointed we havent heard more from Dept Sup Fox since he took over the case.

Do the police use ancestry? I ask as have had my DNA results back, with a long list of 1/2/3 cousins.Areas specific to where my family originated years ago and now! You automatically get matches and names and I have already been contacted by family members x

I would think any details gained through these type of procedures would be case sensitive.
Its the same old story as long as the case remains open.:(
But they must have some Idea who’s DNA was in the home and on the cigarette and not come forward in 12 years. They must have obtained a warrant or order from the courts to establish who! if not, why not x

Really interested in the genealogy stuff, and AI mentioned a few pages back. Surely both have to be a big part of future LE. Guess you have all read about the amazing genealogy work on the golden state killer.

True though that even if we identify the cigarette smoker, the Ford Focus, the Astra van, light man, dark man, we still don’t necessarily know what happened.

It is almost a paradox that while the case remains open it feels less likely to be solved than if it was closed and more case information was available.

Of course, even with the additional case info available there is no guarantee it would be solved.

Straw poll: god forbid you were ever in the parents/family/friends situation, would you rather know what happened and who did it but not be able to secure a conviction, or not know but with the possibility that one day you might, and be able to get that conviction?

I would hope so and I think it would be a question you could put to Cold Case, but if the details they hold re the DNA and male print found in the home form part of the case bought before they CPS these details would be case sensitiive even though the CPS decided not to proceed with the case the case remains open these details could be presented in any future proceedings.

Perhaps at the time, no matches on data base, or ancestry back in 2009/15. I would like to think Wayne fox will be doing these checks again as you said, unless they already have this information. Yes, the question has been asked, but cold case staff changing hopefully get a response x

parents/family /friends would certainly like to find her and give her a decent Christian burial even if it means they never find out who did it !

Sadly it might depend on his work load and budget.
But as DNA, fingerprint and cctv technolgy progresses Im sure they will find themselves under increasing pressure to pursue and apply updated technologies to the evidence they hold.

It was exactly in this manner the Claremont Serial Killer in Perth was caught. Police had an item of clothing from a crime scene that they were unable to extract DNA from at the time, but a much later routine review of the case (almost 20 years later), including a DNA test, matched to a sibling I think. There's always hope!

its an enormous task without a crime scene.
But even if there was a crime scene it could be a place where no trace of human remains connected to the victim could be found.
Perhaps this is why the NYP think it will take someones loyalities to change before any more progress can be made.

The most telling thing about NYP saying that is that they believe more than one person knows what happened.

Their main line of enquiry centres around 4 men so it goes without saying more than one person knows what happened..

I am familiar with the case although l haven't contributed recently :) that was more for those that still think it was a random stranger on her way to work.

A friend in need....

I wonder if someone can help me out here, I’m confused.... So as I understand the facts, CL. Offered Jk a place to stay for around six months when Jks relationship broke down and she had no where to stay. As I understand it was virtually a freebie laid on by a frugal acquaintance. Charitable to say the least - if some did this for me I’d be forever grateful. And as I understand it Jk and CL became the closest best friends. So this is where I’m at a loss, CL texts Jk at 8.23pm on the 18th March 2009 - feeling upset because she has 12 early shifts meaning no late night fun for a couple of weeks and JK being the closest of friends doesn’t reply, ever??or is it, it’s for some reason not documented by NYP ?

It sounds like someone was in a huff with Claudia
