JK is incorrect.

Statistically, it is highly unlikely that JK killed Claudia.

Similarly, it is statistically highly unlikely that a syndicate, aka the NH4, killed Claudia and covered for one another.

I believe one of them was an ex-boyfriend. Statistically an ex-boyfriend is much more likely, but I believe this particular ex-boyfriend had moved on with his life and wasn't hankering after Claudia at all. Bear in mind that the men who kill their ex-partners are besotted with them, there is usually a history of domestic violence and they can't and won't let the ex-girlfriend move on with her life because they have a screw loose. None of this would apply to the ex-boyfriend who was part of the fabled NH4. Motive is crucial in any investigation.

It is statistically likely to be a lone man who is either an ex-partner or a current partner with a history of controlling behaviour, or a lone man known to Claudia who has taken a shine to her to the point of being besotted, or a lone man stranger. Obviously, in the event Claudia was murdered in her home or somebody else's home, then statistically that is likely to be somebody known to Claudia; in the event Claudia was murdered or kidnapped while walking to work in the morning, then statistically that increases the prospect of Claudia's murderer being a stranger.

It's hard to fathom why JK would say that when she clearly does not know what she's talking about. Maybe she likes a bit of attention and reckons she's Columbo. Dunno, don't know the lass.

I tend to agree that a lift to work person would be a good starting point, but I'd say this has all of the hallmarks of the cases you'd see on Crimewatch whereby a lone stranger has abducted a woman walking alone in the dark, with the exception of one pertinent point: in just about all of those cases a body was found nearby. That leaves me on the fence: known or unknown to Claudia, but the evidence suggests that she did set off for work that morning.
‘A current partner with controlling behaviour’
Intend to go with this and I’m referring to the secret boyfriend she told her colleague that she was with very late into the night a day or so before she disappeared!
Controlling ‘ oh no you’re not going on your jollies to Cyprus without me ‘

There's something odd about colleague suddenly remembering the new boyfriend the night before, a year after being questioned. However there was the man who came to her door in the afternoon and she let in on I think it was the Monday 16th. A time she was supposed to be helping a friend with some issues or something like that. It's mentioned in more detail on Major Lang's blog.

Which "night before" did the colleague mean? Not the night before the day she went missing - presumably the night before that - ie Monday 16th - if she mentioned it at work on Tuesday 17th
(and didn't appear at work on Wednesday 18th).

"But last night Det Supt Ray Galloway who is leading the investigation, urged the man who had been with her on Monday 16 March to come forward."

"Police also want to speak to a man in his 30s seen on Heworth Road during the week Miss Lawrence vanished.

A witness said the male approached a house believed to be the missing chef's at about 14:30 GMT and a woman matching her description answered the door.

She is believed to have initially been surprised but then invited the man into the house.

He is described as white, clean shaven, of slim build and about 5ft 10in tall, with very neat dark hair and a stylishly cut fringe.

He was wearing a mid hip-length, light tan-coloured 'Mac'-type jacket, dark-coloured jeans or trousers and dark footwear. He was also carrying a small dark rucksack."

How long did he stay?

"The first was seen by a motorist sitting in traffic in the days prior to her disappearance on March 19, 2009, and is described as white, in his 30s, clean shaven, about 5' 10" tall of slim build with very neat brownish hair and a fringe. The second, an older man, was reportedly seen on the morning Claudia vanished.

The first witness could not specify which day they saw the first man, but knew it was at about 2.30pm, and said he was talking animatedly on his phone and laughing as he appeared to look for a particular house. As he approached a house with a green door a woman of similar description to Claudia who was also on the phone opened the door.

A police spokesman said the woman appeared surprised to see the man.

The spokesman said the man then "appeared dejected and upset", and the woman led him into the house after looking up and down the street.

Det Supt Malyn, leading the investigation, said the description was investigated but not made public in 2009.

He said: "It is vital that this man is traced and assists the investigation. It appeared to the witness that this visitor was perhaps unexpected so it remains an important line of enquiry to identify who this was."

The man wore a mid hip-length light tan hooded Mac jacket, smart dark jeans or trousers, dark footwear, and was carrying a small dark rucksack which did not appear to have much in it."

Just like in a crime movie, especially "Claudia looking up and down the street" when letting the man in.

I don't think, this man can ever be found in 2026.

There was also mention of her having been involved with a "former" police officer, which was said to be reliable information but no one came forwards. This was not the same as the man she was supposed to be with on 16th March. Who is the man with the partner she was involved with, that the police mentioned?

"Several friends of the chef, aged 35 when she vanished from York just over a year ago, have told her family she was involved with an ex-officer but they did not know his name or rank.
North Yorkshire Police are aware of the speculation but have said there has never been any substantiated evidence that she was involved with an officer."

"Martin Dales, a friend of Miss Lawrence, said: “The information comes from reliable sources and we have no reason to believe it is untrue.
“I urge that ex-officer to go to police because he may have useful information. After a year, the police need all the help they can get to piece together a full picture of her life.”"

"As well as the man of March 16, police have just disclosed she was in a casual relationship with another man, who has a partner."

The reasoning behind me saying the police thought it was plotted and planned by someone CL knew was from this article - quoted from Scotland Yard detective.

"
On the podcast former Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley recounts how after doing a segment about Claudia's vanishing on his TalkTV show 'Crime Suspect', a source reached out to him suggesting Claudia had been killed and her body disposed of in a lake.

He said: 'Twenty four hours after the episodes dropped, I was contacted by somebody who, over a course of messages, told me they thought they knew why Claudia had been murdered and who was responsible, either for commissioning her murder or actually carrying it out.

'Claudia's killing was organised, there was plotting and planning that went into it.

'Secondly, her body did end up in the lake. I know the police did search some lakes, but I've been told it's not the right one. "

However nothing was found in the lake.

Did they ever search the University lake?

Honestly why message the police and not tell them everything? What's the point of dropping Hints? This individual obviously thought they knew Claudia's killer and why she was murdered so why not just tell the police and get the poor woman found?

Or it was just someone making things up.
