I know tulips were her favourite flowers because her mother revealed this.
Here's a source:

Looking down at the flowers in her hands, she says: “Tulips were Claudia’s favourite flowers. Every spring she would fill her house with them. In the winter she would have silk ones.
Tracing missing Claudia Lawrence's footsteps five years on: Mum's quest to find daughter

I wonder if that's why she popped out again after getting her lift home on Wed? To buy a bunch of flowers.
Oh, my! I have just read your link. Haunting!!

Re the breakfast crockery, a couple of comments to throw into the mix.

The chefs I know tend to work flat out and rarely take any breaks. With a 6am start I think normally a chef would be flat out with breakfast prep and would struggle to find time to eat. But - I have no idea how busy that canteen was, or how well staffed.

Second thing I've thought of before, is that a bowl of cereal is quite often considered a meal of sorts if you're dieting. So it could well have been her "dinner" (evening meal, I'm a southerner!) We know she was trying to lose weight by walking.

And I still dont like that toothbrush in the kitchen sink!! Especially now I know the bathroom was downstairs.

However - brushing your teeth is (believe it or not) another diet type. Taste of mint supposedly kills cravings. So she could have kept it there in the evening for that purpose.

Is one inference of Malyn’s comment about the rear alleyway being an obvious point of exit for a perpetrator that said perpetrator would have headed down the alley and then through the Nags Head car park (or even into the Nags Head)?

I ask this because we know there was CCTV that would have captured anyone heading out of the alley to the junction of Heworth Place and Heworth Road (the same camera showing the CCTV footage that everyone following this case is very much familiar with). So if a perpetrator left the house to the rear and headed back towards Heworth Road then that person would have been captured on CCTV. No such CCTV footage has been presented to the public.

So if that scenario is what occurred then he must have headed towards the Nags Head.

Meaning he must have known it was possible to leave the alley at that end (an end that was marked as a dead end on a map), which a complete stranger to the area may not have known.

Make of that what you will.
Make of that they live there I reckon

It was an electric toothbrush that was on charge as far as I remember. So it makes sense if her bathroom was downstairs that she was charging it in the kitchen. Bathrooms don't usually have electric ports do they for safety reasons. I dont think she was necessarily actively dieting either, correct me if wrong but she was approx 5ft 6" and a size 8 so slim, I think she said she enjoyed the exercise of walking to work and used it to stay trim. MOO

I mean, mine does as I can charge it in Mr HKP's shaver plug but being a lone female unless her bathroom already had one when she moved it, that's v possible.

ETA mine have never had a standard plug, always the two pin shaver plug things.

It's a big if, but if claudia was killed at home then she had to have been taken out via the back door and down the alley, no one in there right mind whatever the pressure would carry a body out of the front door in view of the houses opposite and onto a busy road, the only problem with this is the lack of evidence in her house of her death, but the fact that there is also no evidence of her leaving the house alive means 11 years hence we are still trying to work out what happened to her

It was an electric toothbrush so it's possible she plugged it in in the kitchen as the bathroom may not have had a shaver point perhaps??

Here's a police source below. Note it mentions the dishes in the sink not on the drainer, suggesting they were dirty dishes. I agree that cereal can be eaten at any time so this does not necessarily indicate breakfast dishes.

'In Claudia's house, the bed had been made and there are what appear to be breakfast dishes in the kitchen sink.
Claudia’s electric tooth brush was also left on the kitchen draining board.'

Hair straighteners missing

We're cadaver dogs brought into the house? If she was killed in the house surely the dogs would have alerted unless she was moved very swiftly

Yes and was doing so for a short period while her car was in for repair and the weather was unseasonally warm and sunny - remember on her walk home she was wearing a sleeveless vest top.

I read that she wanted to lose 2 or 3 pounds and declined her dads offer of alternative means because of this. Believe it was in Gone. Remember the walk was only temporary as she normally drove.

Oh ok thanks, I haven't read Gone, I wouldn't have thought she would worry about her weight as she was quite petite.

I know it's bizarre to me too. V petite. Gone is ok but all a bit sugar coated.

Yes I've read it's quite a biased account of CL life so never bothered to read it. All the facts and speculation/rumours/theories are available online anyway MOO

I know dogs were employed after CL disappeared but does anyone know if cadaver dogs were used in CL house, and the alleyway? And if so how long after 19th? Thanks

Hi all, I’ve never commented before despite having quietly followed this case for a while. I rewatched the ‘Missing or Murdered’ doc tonight and rechecked MajorLang’s (very well done and informative) blog. I think I’m of the same mindset as most, that one of the 4 are responsible/implicit. The one thing that sprung to mind was with regard to CLs text to JK where she mentions being up early for 12 mornings in a row - we know/ assume the uni wouldn’t have had CL in over weekends but the NH chef went on holiday so could there have been an arrangement for CL to sort prep for breakfasts extra early while he was away? May explain why no evidence of foul play at home/earlier bedtime/straighteners missing?
