Interesting post by Uncle Tony on a post about police activities (or lack thereof):

<modsnip>

WHAAAAT !!!!

Uncle Tony has just said there IS a D Notice on this Missing Person (possible murder) enquiry !

That's a game changer indeed

D-Notice (from Wiki)

In the UK the original D-Notice system was introduced in 1912 and run as a voluntary system by a joint committee headed by an Assistant Secretary of the War Office and a representative of the Press Association. Any D-Notices or DA-notices are only advisory requests, and so are not legally enforceable; hence, news editors can choose not to abide by them. However, they are generally complied with by the media. As of 2008, there are five standing DA-Notices and one proposed:

DA-Notice 01: Military Operations, Plans & Capabilities
DA-Notice 02: Nuclear and Non-Nuclear Weapons and Equipment
DA-Notice 03: Ciphers and Secure Communications
DA-Notice 04: Sensitive Installations and Home Addresses
DA-Notice 05: United Kingdom Security & Intelligence Special Services

Has the mobile phone been found ? Sorry, the answer is subject to a standing D Notice.

Have you any leads re potential suspects ? Sorry, the answer is subject to a standing D Notice.

Is there any information on Corrie's movements after 3.25am ? Sorry, the answer is subject to a standing D Notice.

Sorry, move on. Nothing to see here.

It's probably the first time that a D Notice has been reported.
Normally you can't even mention there is a D Notice in place. It's part of "the D Notice".

Well, there goes the Mainstream Media reporting then !

I'm just wondering how a DA-Notice could be applied in this case? All I know about it is that it is a voluntary code for reporting restrictions on Government/Military issues?

I know Corrie was RAF but whatever happened to him happened outside of that? If it is true surely Corrie's uncle has broke the NDA or rules by posting this info? Not saying I agree with the DA-Notice by any means.

Needs a lot of explaining I think!

Yeah.... and some !

Firstly, they don't just "slap" D Notice's around.
Secondly, it is as rare as hens teeth that someone has actually said "there's a D Notice on this".

And importantly..... it's not just about "editors voluntary not reporting" things. That's their nice way of putting it.
Everything now will have to be "approved" before it comes out of a "mainstream media" outlet. If at all.

....a D Notice is "heavy".

I would bet my house there is a D Notice on Marham and Aldershot too

A couple of notable...and bizarre "D Notices" (well "alleged", because you can't actually report the fact !).

#1 The Dunblane School Massacre. That had one. It's also under the "100 year rule".

#2 Parts of the Miner's Strike. The "media blanked" some incidents. Also the held coal reserves.

It's pretty big stuff.

Wouldn't surprise me at all either. I posted the other day about potential reporting restrictions that could apply to all three incidents - link here, and the last link on my post is about D Notices.

Now a D Notice is in place, we can forget about hearing anything useful......

....so for a bit of light relief, I just read this on Faceschmuck.

"Loads of celebs from Bury that could be tweeted....
Ralf Little, Gemma Atkinson, Lisa Riley, Helen Flanagan, Charlie Webb, Georgia May Foote, Steve Halliwell. Lots of these people are well known soap stars with a big following. I don't know how to use Twitter but thought some of you could ask them"

Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk .... not Bury, Lancashire !

Doooh !

I also think the daily mail story was not a coincidence. It was them tipping the wink

I've been following this case for a while but until today couldn't remember my username - oops.

It's interesting to see tonight that a D notice has been issued. I thought when this happened it couldn't be spoken about? Strange.

I had thought this was a typical "lad gets drunk, has an accident" type case and completely dismissed any idea of an abduction until the past few days. Now I'm not so sure, and the D notice being issued makes me wonder if it could be related to Marham after all.

Its been such a difficult case to follow so far and now I think it's only going to get harder!

Could well be. Can't write about specifics, so will just write about something in a very general way that happens to be directly related.

It certainly explains why the Police haven't spoken at all about the case. Even they can't speak about such a thing.

The question is why has it been issued at all? Does it mean whatever happened it only involves military personnel or terrorism?

What do we do now? Clearly the family aren't happy about the situation given TW's post...

Well, I'm so glad that I spent a good chunk of my morning compiling that list of questions that the family probably won't be able to answer after all ... ;)

I think they can answer, what this means is the press can't talk about possible abduction by enemies. The facts still need to be out there

I notice the "reporting" kinda stopped two days ago, so I guess that's when the D Notice was issued.

The Daily Mail probably chanced their arm and reported a "not linked, but kind of linked" unapproved story.
I think they can do that.

But Uncle Tony ! Good on you mate.
The family must be heart-broken, driven crazy and absolutely shattered by this. Their thing is to keep Corrie in the media and hope for a break through. A "standing D Notice" will be a kick in the teeth for them.

I can only hope that Suffolk Plod have got some serious help from Rupert and his chums....and that their assistance can bring a break through. Clearly they are seriously looking at "a possible abduction by a terrorist group" now and they will either conclude that "that's what it is" OR "that's what it's not....and here is the bloke you're looking for".

I wonder if this is why his mum had made the post about archiving all the interviews etc. on youtube, as 'things were being deleted'?
