The jury selection has begun at St Albans Crown Court for the murder trial of Ian Stewart, who is accused of killing Royston author Helen Bailey.

The 56-year-old is charged with murdering Ms Bailey, his partner, at their Royston home in Baldock Road. He is also charged with fraud, preventing the lawful burial of the 51-year-old’s body and perverting the course of justice.

Ms Bailey and her dachshund Boris were reported missing by Mr Stewart, who is originally from Letchworth, in April last year. Their bodies were found in a septic tank at their Royston home in July.

The jury is set to be sworn in today and proceedings are expected to officially start tomorrow.

Just to clarify; no plea was entered today?

I haven't heard anything other than what is in those short news reports. I think we have to presume he is still pleading not guilty if jury selection went ahead or is going ahead tomorrow.

He plead not guilty back in October.

Such an offensive plea.

Yes, I was kind of hoping there would be more to add such as a guilty to manslaughter or a change of heart on the not guilty.

Oh well, hopefully it means he'll get a longer sentence at the end of it then.

Interesting. I see there are three counts of Perverting Course of Justice. I always thought it was a single charge.

Perverting the course of justice - these are just some ideas - faking a note written by Helen, using her bank account, faking an appeal for her return? I'm a bit dusty now, was her purse missing?

There was an accident on the M1 this morning, near Flitwick which is just south of Bedford. Road now cleared but traffic still delayed somewhat. Might have been a delay in bringing IS from prison to court, hence later start.
