Daily Mail reporting of this morning's evidence

On April 11 2016, the defendant had visited a solicitor with paperwork regarding the sale of the £185,000 property in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear.

He claimed he was attending in place of Ms Bailey because she was was 'unwell'

In the weeks after her disappearance, Stewart was in contact with Mr Penn on several occasions

Mr Penn told the court of one phone call: 'He said 'You probably know that Helen is missing and I'm wondering if you can carry on with this transaction in the meantime'.

'I said effectively no. He talked about a power of attorney and I said in these circumstances we would want to hear from Helen.'

'I explained to him obviously, with the question mark over where Helen was, there was a question mark over the power of attorney.'

Stewart allegedly told the solicitor he was looking into getting his powers of attorney properly registered.

BIB I bet he was !

Can anyone remember what time of day IS went to the dump ?
[h=3]Stewart also went to local refuse tip with a duvet-shaped object said to have been used in the killing[/h]Mr Trimmer adds: “On the same day in the afternoon, the defendant went to a local refuse tip and is seen disposing of a large white object, probably a duvet used in the killing or transporting of Helen’s body.
“A few days later on the 13th the defendant is seen to visit the same refuse tip. The crown suggest that he was there to ensure that duvet had gone.

So IS tells the solicitor that Helen is unwell - I wonder what time the appointment was for ?

but she then clearly recovers enough to pack her bags and depart in the afternoon

I think this is the correct Bowls Club. A random Monday night fixture list shows a round commencing a 6.15pm and another at 8.15pm.

http://cambridgeandcountybc.co.uk/monday-evening/

I don't know how long a game of bowls takes, but judging by the two hour gap between games, I'm guessing it could have been close to 10pm when they left, with a 30 minute drive home according to google maps.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/C...x8a40dec658b24673!2m2!1d-0.024066!2d52.048142

So it may have been late(ish) when they returned home, and JS probably assumed HB was in bed.

A lot of guesswork has gone into this post, so happy to be corrected.

Defendant's son Jamie says his father collected Chinese takeaway for dinner, saw him back at home around 9pm

Then time to go back to Hartwell Lodge ( change clothes ? )

Then to Surgery - depart the house 2.40 ish to arrive Surgery at 2.54pm

Departs Surgery 3.07 pm - could be at Solicitors by 3.30pm ( Penn Sassoli is about a 5 min drive from Hartwell Lodge )

Afternoon session about to begin

Tara has confirmed the hearing is about to continue, with the jurors now making their way back to the courtroom.

First up, they’re going to hear more evidence from Ian Stewart’s son, Jamie.

The pale blue shirt he wore to the afternoon surgery appointment seems to be a sticking point with the defence.

He's probably got more than one blue shirt anyway.

Is this just me or is that not very odd..... assumed Helen was home but never asked IS if she was joining them for supper, or if she was ok ????

That struck me too. Or even not to go and look for her after a few hours and still heard nothing, just to say hello at least.

Thanks Alyce for keeping up with both twitter and the Cambridge news reports. Sometimes, one or the other adds slightly more info. [emoji106][emoji4]

Jamie Stewart's cross-examination begins

Jamie Stewart said he would normally expect to see Helen in the evenings, but on the week of April 11 he did not see her.

He told the court on the evening of April 11 he assumed Helen had gone to bed, and the dog Boris was with her upstairs.

He is now being cross-examined by the defence.

Jamie said Helen lived at an address with himself, his brother and Stewart, in Bassingbourn for six months before all of them moved to the Royston address.

He said his dad was also fond of the dog, Boris, and both Helen and Stewart would go on walks with him.

“I first met Helen in 2011, I was very happy to move into the Royston house.

“Dad didn’t work became of his ill health, he spent quite a lot of time making things for around the house.”

Ian Stewart was treated for 'cancerous lump'

Jamie, now 24, said his dad had been ill since he was about seven or eight years old.

On the weekend before Easter 2016, Stewart was in Addenbrooke’s as it was believed he had some form of cancerous lump, the court was told.

There were complications and he was moved to intensive care - this was quite a shock to Helen, Jamie said.

“Dad was in a lot of pain after this. It was three or four weeks later that he sat behind the wheel of a car again.

“The weekend before April 11 there was nothing unusual at all. We spent the Saturday night watching TV. It was hard to remember what happened because it was so normal.

“Helen had made a cottage pie for us all. There was nothing untoward at all about that evening.”
