Yes, belt and braces approach.

Yeah - there is a lot of boring stuff with trial procedure, largely invisible to bystanders but drummed in to young lawyers

Every single element of the prosecution case must be proven by evidence.

Hence the procession of witnesses to establish what Helen was like, when she was last seen, her habits, her demeanour etc

For example, the fact that IS contended she had gone to the cottage is suspicious not only because he cannot produce the note, but fundamentally because her brand new jeep is in the driveway.

Hence the importance of a neighbour who saw her driving it.

Ditto her normal relations with friends and acquaintances goes to show there were no mysterious and threatening men on the scene

Oh goodness. Loads of vibes for her mum. I did not actually think she would attend the trial, let alone be called to give evidence. I thought perhaps a written statement at most.

Critical witness!

Hope she is able to provide some damning evidence - so far, nothing really that I have heard from her friends or family has been all that damning.

Just thinking over things last night, and would be more than happy to be corrected on this ...but

I very much get the feeling that Helen was the outsider within her home in Royston.
We have been told, by JB, that Helen was very fond of ISs sons - but I have not heard any remark from them, or from the g/f which would indicate that they liked her.
OS said when he knew that Helen and his father were to marry, he was pleased...but that is all I can see.
Jamie, on the night of April 11, does not ask IS where Helen is, even though he acknowledges in court that she must have been home because her cars were there. I know we have discussed this and it may have been quite normal to know that if Helen was not around, then everyone knew she was either working or had gone to bed...but I still think it indicates a lack of interest in her, that no comment was made.
OSs g/f does not seem overly keen, only mentioning that Helen was a nervous driver, that Helen didnt acknowledge her on the night of April 9 and that Helen had had an argument about her ( the gf) staying over at the house.
Also I noted the gfs comments about how she had been spending more time at Hartwell Lodge, cooking for OS and IS and that Jamie had joined them for the meals. Again, Helen is not mentioned.
As I say, we only get fleeting glimpses and not the whole picture, but it has made me feel sad that here was a woman who had bought a beautiful house for this family, paid the bills, provided the food, cooked for them and cleaned up after them ( from her book ) but does not seem to have received much if anything in return.

Hopefully she will be .......
I was thinking of it from the point of view of age, state of health etc, that she might not be up to attending...or indeed, not wish to be there. Although of course, she could be attending just for today.

Helen's Mother is not well enough to attend today - and I believe the Court is adjourned - and continue tomorrow. Poor thing no wonder she doesn't feel able. (Now realise this has been removed from BBC - and that it is Ian Stewart unwell)

Thank you Alyce - I read a previous note on BBC that Mrs Bailey wasn't well and now this has been corrected.

I've heard minor wounds on the bellybutton can cause major mobility issues. Maybe it's that again.

I'm sorry, is my facetious showing?

It sounded right to me, I could quite understand Helen's mother not feeling up to it..... feel sorry for her, she has probably been dreading this moment and now she has to wait at least another day.

Interesting and probably means nothing ...but....

In the Kayleigh Haywood trial, the accused Stephen Beadman chose not to attend court for most of the trial and only appeared when it was mandatory for him to do so - at the very end.

So, technically, could the trial continue without IS if his illness turns out to be prolonged ??
