Just a little note... These are ordinary people who believe they saw something and are trying to tell the truth about what they saw and explain the statements they gave to police. They're not trying to get IS off the chopping block or say he's innocent - they're literally trying to explain what they think they've seen, and probably completely believe they've seen.

We know what they've seen (or when they're saying they've seen it) can't be true, but it doesn't mean they're siding with IS or that they're intentionally lying. Witness testimony is not completely reliable - we know this.

Let's try not to be too mean to these people who are probably very nervous witnesses who have found themselves embroiled in a mess created entirely by IS. Let's not shift any acrimony on to them.

"I thought ‘Oh that’s Helen I haven’t seen her in ages’ "

Although that sounds very matey, I didn't get the impression she had ever actually met Helen or spoken to her.

There must be stuff missed out though, otherwise where did Strimmer get the bits about "walking in a determined fashion" and "putting her hands through her hair"?

'No doubts' on date she saw Helen

Mrs John is now being re-examined by the defence.
Defence barrister Simon Russell Flint: “When you saw Helen Bailey what had you been doing before?”
Mrs John: “I’d been to the hairdressers, I went and got that confirmed with the hairdressers. “When I went to the Building Society last I walked there.” “It was April 11 - from 3.40pm to 3.50pm - when I last saw Helen Bailey.
There are no doubts in my mind.”

Curiouser and curiouser...Unless she is a psycho too, would admittedly be strange for her to make a mistake if she has double checked with the hairdresser re. date/time.

Was she wearing a coat over the beige shirt, seeing as it was raining?

appears not Duchy

“Then I thought she would get wet as it started drizzling. "

It's an odd thing you mention that... we currently have 4 large dogs (we are lunatics :blushing:) but two of ours are very old (both 14). We have made a recent decision that when they leave us, we would get one small dog to fill the gap somewhat. After having been invested in this case and having seen Boris' lovely face throughout, I suggested a dachshund to my partner. It's been the only small dog we've both agreed on and I have been planning, should it go ahead in future years, to call him Boris, just as a small memorial that only us lot know the meaning of.

Back in August 2016 after we found out Helen and Boris had been found, I got in touch with Boris's breeder who Helen had remained friends with. We will be having a pup from her in memory of both Helen and Boris and his name will be Bailey as a memorial not only to Helen but also for her family who have shown incredible strength and dignity under such devastating circumstances. He hasn't been born yet but we are hoping we will have him by June this year. He will carry the same bloodlines as Boris [emoji173]

agree we need some more sources to fill in the gaps. Will have a mooch on twitter.

PS. re. Mocking - I know this is an American forum but this is, as far as I'm concerned very British sense of humour .

I live on the outskirts of Royston and drive past Hartwell Lodge quite often - always thinking of Helen. For those pondering the notices on Helen's gates, they were indeed laminated A4 size warnings to "Keep Out" as the property was dangerous. For perhaps 6 weeks after her body was retrieved, the gates themselves were covered with rough-looking metal screens and barred with yellow/black striped tape. After the screens were removed, the gates were once again revealed and the A4 notices were affixed. They disappeared much later in the autumn, and the house now looks normal, though the gates are permanently closed, and i have not seen any lights on when travelling past after dark.

Most likely explanation is that it wasn't Helen that she saw.

Did she mean to say putting one hand through her hair - because if she had Boris on a lead, she cant have hands through her hair ....

Not only that her description is far too specific yet vague, silhouetted yet beige, raining yet the light was able to silhouette her against a fence, sorry but NO. I'm a photographer and pretty aware of what's going on around me for taking photo reasons. So, just for example I went a walk up a hill on Sunday and I'm trying to recall any of the people I passed. I remember ONLY very distinctive ones. Man in bright yellow ski trousers, families with various dogs, woman with man smoking and holding carrier bags taking a selfie - the only reason this last couple stayed in my head is because I thought it was out of place and would have made a good photo, I can't tell you what they were wearing or specifically what they looked like. ANYWAY, point being. That was only Sunday. EVEN if I was contacted by the police now to say one of them was killed. I could not be certain on any details apart from very basic ones. It's amazing the differences in what you recall to when you are given photographic evidence.
I think more should have been made of the woman's 'No doubt' comments tbh.

Sorry for the waffle. In work and covertly messaging...

and what was the point of this

About a year/18 months ago I saw Helen up by the fire station further up the road from where we live with a tall thin man. She seemed quite animated with him, quite happy. They both had raincoats on. He was very smart.”

Is this meant to indicate this is Nick?

that made me chuckle.... woman meets neighbour and has a chat !

Hunkerdown - this is the best news we've heard all day. And loving the name Bailey for your little Dachshund. Such a good thing for you to do - very healing and a wonderful way to honour the life of Helen and Boris - and your friendship x

Thoroughly scandalous!
( I had that here when I used to go shopping with my male neighbour in his 70's who's a very good friend of my OH. The neighbour used to be find it very amusing, can't say I was flattered! I mean, as if. )

ETA - just remembered, when occasionally acquaintances would ask neighbour if I was his daughter, neighbour's smile soon faded.

Sending the no-rain and the hands-free dog-walking to Strimmer

:phone: Alternatively, email chambers now ?

Let's face it it won't be the first time "we've" contacted a Pros team with snippets!:blushing: ( No , not me personally and I won't name names)

Yeah I've done it before. Did I tell you lol?

While you're at it you may as well remind him that the CCTV from Royston dump will show whether it was wet / raining that afternoon.

Many moons ago, I was home from work ( abroad )...went shopping with my Dad in our local village.

Got home and my mother is chuckling away to herself ....apparently a neighbour had phoned her to say she had seen my Dad out shopping, bold as brass, with a fancy woman !!

BIB No, there's so more than one person then!
Seriously though , the Pros team did reply and say there were most interested in the info. Sadly, I think in this case it was sent too late for the stage in the legal process.
