It all makes sense now !
So she’s cracked and pleaded.

At LEAST she has done the decent thing after this rumbling on for so long.

  • #364
Ah, that explains why there's no listing on The Law Pages today

  • #365
She clearly told her counsel yesterday her intentions.
Not sure how much will be reduced on sentence for this GP - if they apply the full wack or less. She’s run one trial already.
This sentence will be interesting.

Yes, makes sense now why they only had a half day listing for her on Court Serve last night.

Exactly - we should have seen this coming !

Had she pleaded guilty 14 months ago, so much heartache for NB’s family (and taxpayer money) would have been spared. Davies KC did well going in with all guns blazing.

I still cannot wrap my head around that this person was teaching children.
I feel for students and their parents.
Unbelievable!

Fiona Beal’s original trial halted by defence witness ‘mistake’

  • #374
So let me get this straight (from the link I posted above), when this witness gave evidence:

Ms Drummond told the court she had not seen Beal [...] for around seven years, having previously visited her home.

When she had infact been working as a security officer at the court, carrying out welfare checks on her and literally escorting her to/from the prison transport during the trial?!

  • #375
Whaaat? Why would a witness ever be allowed to do that?

Did they only realise mid way through she actually worked at the courts and had been working alongside her?

That’s wild

But in a dramatic U-turn mid-trial, she has changed her plea to guilty, a jury at the Old Bailey was told on Friday.

Judge Mark Lucraft told Beal: “You have this morning pleaded guilty to murder, which as you have no doubt been told, carries a sentence of life imprisonment.”

He confirmed he will determine the minimum term at a two-day sentencing hearing starting on May 29.

Unless I've misunderstood, I assume that means that she hadn't seen FB for seven years before the trial.
If so, she can't have known first-hand of any abuse by NB. So again it was only hearsay based on what FB had told her.

They (NB and the accused) had been in a long term relationship though?
