Could they have been given an extra hour or so because of the delay earlier and because one member is unavailable tomorrow morning?
"A juror has an important commitment in the morning.
He also proposes extending the sitting times to 4.30pm next week."

I'm just trying to imagine what it must be like for the jury to finally start processing their thoughts after 9 months of listening in silence.
For me personally, I would find this significantly impacted my learning process. That much 'talk and chalk' and no open discussion, there's going to be major gaps in learning IMO.
I'll bet there's even a bunch of them who switched off for a number of the cases because the approach is not conducive to their adult learning style.
With that it mind, some jurors may only be at the same point in processing as what we as onlookers were, when we first discussed some of the cases. Jmo

I'm going to guess that this morning's delay was an in-camera hearing between the judge and the parties, press excluded, to consult with them over whether to take any partial verdicts at this stage. And the parties needed time to think over the pros and cons, perhaps needed to have their own team meetings to discuss before submissions to the judge. If he was going to do it he would need to do it at the start of the day because at 4pm when they come back into court it doesn't leave the jury time for preparing verdict forms and taking verdicts, when they are expecting to go home, especially as parents would need to be given notice also.

ETA
And especially since his majority direction would likely have brought out verdicts yesterday if that was the only thing holding up verdicts.

Jury sent home, back tomorrow @ 1:00pm.

At what point does the judge decide to lock them in a room until they’ve decided on each charge? Joking of course :p

I only hope that they settle down after this week and manage to sieve through the evidence to find the pertinent facts in order to reach a majority decision. Some of the jurors (who potentially haven’t done a degree course) could well have difficulties dredging their minds back over the minutiae, and the sheer volume in front of them. I feel for each and every one of them, just as I feel the extreme pain and pressure the families are going through and facing with such dignity.

It has been many years since I got my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. And these are MOO

I really thought today would be the day. I'm going to stop making predictions as I've been wrong every time!

I was getting a really strong feeling about the number three in relation to the verdict of this trial. My grandmother was apparently psychic, so I wondered whether she'd passed her gift on to me. Well this trial has answered that once and for all... no she bloody hasn't! LOL

But she passed her sense of humour on you :D

Today was the first time I felt that flip in my stomach, it was the lack of MSM reporting that made me wonder if there was a news embargo whilst everyone assembled.

I certainly came crashing back down to Earth pretty quickly.

Ah, maybe they're stuck on three of the charges!!

You could have a future with a crystal ball yet, Mystic Purple.

This is the last I’ll say on the matter now but it does make me wonder if our system of jury selection needs to be looked at or adjusted especially when it comes to trials of this length and complexity. Being selected to sit on a jury is a huge commitment and responsibility and IMO if you do have other life commitments that have a chance of arising they should be voiced during the selection process and taken seriously and considered by the court, with people being excused as necessary MOO

I have health issues and know that I could not be relied upon to undertake this massive responsibility to the court. I have children who occasionally require picking up from school if they are poorly or have to miss school due to illness - but in that case my partner would have to explain to his job that I was on a jury and he’d have to leave work to care for our children, failing that my mother or a friend - if I had no one else who could help I would have to explain this to the court right at the start. And the court would/should excuse from jury service for these reasons as I’d imagine a jury would need to be reliable, able to commit and deal with the responsibility for an extended amount of time compared to most trials.

The issue doesn’t end there though because a trial of this length almost welcomes the odd day here and there . However IMO you’d assume that an hour would be added to the beginning and/or end of each day to make up for time lost due to absence. Days that began late could end later, days that ended early could be followed by a day that ended later. Having everyone assemble in court just to announce court won’t be sitting seems unfair IMO and surely there was a way to let everyone know before hand unless it’s a legal requirement to have everyone present?

IMO many things are at play here. Short court days for a long trial, missed days extending an already lengthy trial, a whole week missed in the middle of deliberations, momentum disrupted many times during the trial (that possibly could now be affecting how the evidence is being remembered) and all these things aren’t IMO the fault of one person, it reflects to me anyway some flaws in the system as a whole.

We as the general public obviously can’t do anything about it, but it’s just observations that personally I’ve noticed over the course of this entire trial. But my opinion is just that - an opinion.

No verdict today, doubtful there will be one tomorrow with only a half day, so possibly Monday now. Is this week 4? I’ve completely lost count!

All MOO

Or maybe she has...

We're here in 2023. And we'll most def get a verdict in 2023.

Three can still be the number. And you can still claim psychic powers.

;)
