I didn't mean the catasrophising remark to sound pointed at you, I'm sorry if it seemed that way. I just meant the thread in general is trending a little 'the sky is falling', which I understand, we're all getting antsy, but there's no reason to assume that things aren't going well in deliberations, from what we know. It's a big case, and with the months and months of trial, they really haven't been out long.

MOO
No apology needed :)

Yeah and they got the Ng verdict really wrong imo. So I'm not taking any solace from that.
Agreed!!! They got it seriously wrong there. It does happen unfortunately…

To be fair though, there might be some disharmony reflected in the judge now stating that they can consider a majority verdict. Suggests that even the judge is a little surprised they’ve yet to reach a more formative conclusion.

Jeremy Bamber verdict was 10/2 I think and the more that had come out since the more he is guilty. Hoping for the jury to do a good job in LL’s case. Barristers paid for being able to absorb and analyse and précis volumes of material. Jury may be flummoxed with the tsunami if info.

I really feel for them and the families …

I meant OFF WORK :p

Happy to have you here!!!!!
(You always give me "likes" haha)

Tasmania?
I heard something about Tasmanian devil
But Im not sure what it is
I own the business, and we are just back from holidays, no days off for me!

I went to a fundraiser for Tasmanian Devils last night. There is a terrible facial tumour disease, which has killed off 80% of their population. It is caused by a virus, and causes a horrible, lingering death. The disease is relatively new, and science just can't quite catch up.

I am not going to disclose my viewing routing this morning, but I confess I am surprised how superstious I am. Also, that my lucky hair band has never failed before now!

Not sure they did, as they went with the evidence.

I agree. Sometimes the correct verdict on the legal evidence is not what we'd like, or even what seems fair. In that case, though, fortunately there was quite enough to put the perpetrator away for good (more or less) on the other murder charge (and there were other serious charges of which he was also convicted).

That case was still not nearly as complex or difficult as this one.

I'm going to be silly enough to give a prediction for today ...for what it's worth.

I think at the point the Judge gave the majority instruction...the jurors had sent a note to say they had reached a deadlock..it was a strange time of day for the Judge to make that announcement..surely it would be at the start or very end of the court day if it was from the Judge
I think they may pass another note today saying they have gone through the ones with no verdict and still have some deadlock with no reason to feel it will change
May get verdicts around 3pm

I guess Prosecution and Defence barristers are tied to Court during deliberations, no?
But at least they can work remotely on some other cases I hope.
There is always work for lawyers.

I'm a big animal lover and this is really sad, but I read this whilst still half asleep and thought you were referring to a sports team called the Tasmanian Devils. I need more caffeine!

Re Bamber...I think when the accused is a possible narcissist, because they've played a convincing role their whole life, there is always a real risk that some members of the jury may fall for their charm, believe in the perfect version of them that they present to the world and refuse to believe they are capable of committing such a crime.
