2018 Standard. Questions asked over legality of keeping Chester hospital baby deaths suspect on bail with no charge

One man wrote to several newspapers saying: “This lady hasn't been charged and has had her reputation sullied across the world. Surely the greater public good demands that certain questions be asked.

“Why did the police put out a press release allowing the media to identify [her] without having charged her? Why is the State allowed to place an innocent person under bail conditions when they haven't been charged?

Hmmm...

Anyway, did anybody who was following the case at the outset from 2018 first arrest, screen capture the website which was supposed to have been live briefly?

Also @CS2C Just had a look at one of your old ones and although you caveat it with ' I can't verify...' it appears correct.
She chose to buy a house which literally backs onto the child's memorial garden at Blacon cemetery.

Local historian's detailed walk-thru of the cemetery incl photos of baby garden, at link below
'In addition to the child graves amidst other inhumation burials, there is also a dedicated child burial ground. It is discretely hedged with a semi-circular path with memorial ‘gravestones’ bearing the names of multiple children. These focus on a dolphin sculpture. Off from this are two separate enclosed burial grounds containing small plots of child graves, each with a small white gravestone and with a host of ephemeral offerings: toys, windmills and garden ornaments.'

Can see the back of No 41 more clearly in this local news item, linked below, on the childs' burial ground new dolphin sculpture being installed

  • 11 MAY 2017 Cheshire Live....' A moving ceremony accompanied the unveiling of a special bronze statue in the Baby Memorial Garden at Blacon Crematorium...the garden, which was opened as a joint venture with Chester Childbirth Appeal .... a poignant poem called Dancing with Dolphins was read by two young friends whose baby brothers are buried in the cemetery...It gives grieving parents a place to spend a quiet moment while visiting the graves of their precious lost babies...' ( Bishop of Chester attended. Every year same bishop holds a memorial service for all lost babies including neonatal, still births, cot deaths... Major efforts by local charity workers on these endeavours. )

I feel sorry for those parents and charity workers who visit this memorial garden. Maybe No 41 should be purchased and then demolished out of respect for them?

You can also see back of No 41 in relation to the Baby Memorial Garden at GoogleMaps satellite view 39 Westbourne Rd · 39 Westbourne Rd, Chester CH1 5BA, UK
I feel very sorry for them too. I used to be a trustee of the charity that put the dolphin statue in and I was there at its opening. It was very emotional. It’s a peaceful place normally. Birds singing etc

Edited for typo

It's beautifully done, a real expression of dedication and care. I went through the main routes on Google's street view before I read about the long campaigns by charity workers.
Well done to all of you for that and for all the ongoing support & charity workers' endeavours supporting parents locally.

I have a question concerning the mugshot which is appearing everywhere.

Is it new or was it taken when she was first arrested/charged?

I ask, b/c she seems younger in this photo, also her appearance is different (still blondish hair, eyebrows plucked).

Maybe the most recent mugshot will appear when she is installed in her "forever home"?

Or is it the most recent one taken after the sentencing?

I believe it would’ve been taken when she was finally charged - but don’t quote me on that…;)

Countess baby deaths: Lucy Letby appears at Chester Crown Court - as it happened

4:09pm

Defence barrister Ben Myers QC has requested a bail application for Letby, and for it to be heard privately in chambers.

4:18pm

A legal discussion is taking place whether to hold the bail application in public or in private.

4:31pm

The judge has ordered that the press cannot report what is said during the bail application hearing. Only the outcome can be reported.

5:10pm

We're still waiting for the outcome of the bail application hearing.
Judge Everett will announce the outcome of it in open court.

5:19pm

The judge has retired to consider his verdict.

5:41pm

The legal teams will be informed of the judge's decision first, then the press, and then it is understood a provisional trial date will be set.

5:47pm

Press have been invited back into court.

5:50pm

Judge Everett has ruled Letby should be remanded in custody.
The bail application is rejected.

5:52pm

A hearing will take place next Wednesday at Liverpool Crown Court, for another possible bail application to be made, and for an application on reporting restrictions to be considered.

Thanks Becky. My fault - Ishould have been clearer when I asked this
'Anyway, did anybody who was following the case at the outset from 2018 first arrest, screen capture the website which was supposed to have been live briefly?'

I meant the independent website which apparently was campaigning for her innocence. was live only for a few days

" 'I hope she's proud of what we've done': Mother of murdered Olivia Pratt-Korbel hails new powers to force cowardly killers into court for sentencing as Sabina Nessa's sister says it is 'about time'."

No surprise Serial at the number one spot - the first I ever listened to and still amazing, S town also a really great story.
Loved up and vanished until Payne Lindsey became utterly unbearably smug, it’s not about you - you just tell the story.

LL chose to buy a home next to a children's cemetery. I don't believe that was a coincidence, given what she has been found guilty of. If it were me, I would have deliberately chosen not to buy it - not because I think it's creepy or whatever, but because I would feel so sad every time I saw it through the window. I know we are all different, but I doubt if I'm in a minority. In fact I would be interested to know how long it took the previous owners to sell it, and if they had reduced the asking price (maybe even several times) before it sold. If so, maybe that would explain how a young person like LL could afford a house. Just some thoughts.

The house is in one of the cheaper areas of Chester and she had a relatively well paid job so it doesn't surprise me that she could have her own place, especially if her parents helped her out with a deposit which many parents do.

It's expensive to rent so makes sense that she bought a house.

Unlike others, I think that it was a coincidence that the house backed onto the children's cemetery. After all it's near to the hospital and an area where many hospital staff live. Houses only come on the market every now and then so did she wait for a house that backs onto the cemetery to come up? Or was it just good luck for her to find this particular house?

Yeah if I was a local reporter ( or even ITN / TV production crew for the future programmes on this case) I'd be contacting the local estate agency for name-withheld info on that house sale, just cause you're looking for every angle in those shows. (Would be interested to know if she was set on that property or had previously shown interest in other properties within the 2m radius of CoC )

As it is, we have nothing much to go on & just fwiw speculation..
- she texts her friends and says her new house is ' huge' which struck me before I 'd heard the speculation on the cemetery's proximity (I'd thought - so why buy it, if you feel it's too big?)
- otoh, seems reasonable to speculate that as her parents helped her with the purchase & they're so close to LL, they'd want LL to buy a house with at least 1 extra bedroom to allow them to stay over ( That 2nd bedroom was decorated in style imo which might appeal to that age group)
- when I was catching-up on the trial, she'd said in testimony that she had a ton of hobbies and when I first saw the house I posted I don't see any evidence of that at the house. ( Not even gardening, it's as low maintenance as her parents' home) To me, thinking of average salaries in Chester, it's a small family home/couple's starter home

ETA Dolphin, we cross posted - at the same time. I think she was on c £30K, I'd asked a nurse WS-er what her salary would be for Band 5 in NWEngland. It was somewhere around early 30s

did yall establish whether she had her own car? Appreciate that there's testimony of her walking home from work - one night, maybe more. I'd noticed that there are some cut-throughs at the cem, on googlemaps, although they don't exit right next to her home

Too huge, too expensive for a single young person
But
With the special view for her.
So
She quickly made the deal
(with the help of parents)

It also gave her the excuse to take overtime
(and hang on in the unit near the patients)
b/c she was saving to pay for the house.

Allow me an unrealistic suggestion -
I think Ian Harvey, Tony Chambers and Co should offer to spend their pay-off cash to buy it, demolish it and plant a tree so that the sight of the house doesn't disturb the peace of any bereaved parents visiting the child cemetery. i appreciate that nobody died there but...
.. it's the former home of the UK's most prolific child killer ...within sight of parents coming to visit childrens' graves
