One gets the impression that he's not very busy. You know, employed in court, very much, or ever.

What a muppet, running to the media every 5 minutes and bringing the profession into disrepute in this way. IMO

I wonder if he has any connections behind the scenes with the hospital executives. Wouldn't that be interesting. Just personal speculation, of course.

Why would he care, personally, about the Inquiry?

I wonder if his rush to get an application in to the CCRC is tied up in this.

It has to be.

But he's moaning about press releases trying to control the narrative...but that's exactly what he himself has done ...unbelievable

anyone know his history or is he just a total bs itter? hes a defence specialist apparently. makes me wonder if he is just one of those snakey as f kinda guys, no integrity just trying to win.

"Mark McDonald has a formidable reputation within criminal law. He specialises in criminal defence and has experience across all offences. Mark has led in a number of trials involving serious offences.

Mark is regularly instructed in cases involving murder, serious assaults, rape, organised crime and Terrorism. He is known for the thoroughness of his preparation, providing clear and concise advice to clients and in particular for his ability to get on with clients. He has considerable experience of dealing with defendant’s with profound psychiatric and psychological issues."

Something is beginning to smell, worse than the Camembert I had in my fridge over Christmas.

Now that we know police are investigating gross negligence manslaughter.

the investigation may not come to anything
A bit like Mark McDonalds application to the CCRC for baby killer Lucy Letby, may come to nothing.

He seems to have a particular interest in serial killers, as he also represents Colin Norris and Ben Geen. Letby must be the cherry on his cake. He manages to mention the two former within the first few sentences of his bio on his website. All three of them are absolutely guilty, imo. I don't like whats happening with the Norris case. I remember it well.

That profile of him is heavy on words and light on achievements. What cases has he won?

Not asking you, Sweeper, just wondering what his alleged 'formidable reputation' is actually based on.

That's pretty much what I got from the google I did.

Nothing formidable or admirable or worthy of praise or respect about any of that.

Coming across as a barrister for hire based on the voltage of the media light.

It is interesting he stood for parliament? He’s definitely someone who will benefit in multiple ways from the spotlight…

Mark McDonald, representing Letby, who he claims is the victim of a miscarriage of justice, said expert evidence compiled by her defence team “points the finger” in a “very different direction” from where the police are looking.

Mr McDonald said: “It is astonishing that on the eve of the legal argument to stop the Thirlwall Inquiry, the police have decided to issue a press release discussing gross negligence manslaughter.

....snip.....

Earlier, in a statement, Cheshire Police said: “In October 2023 following the lengthy trial and subsequent conviction of Lucy Letby, Cheshire Constabulary launched an investigation into corporate manslaughter at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

“This focuses on senior leadership and their decision-making to determine whether any criminality has taken place concerning the response to the increased levels of fatalities.

“As our inquiries have continued, the scope of the investigation has now widened to also include gross negligence manslaughter.”

Still no mention of the cases he's won, though.

He seems to be representing three convicted serial killers - who's paying for this, I wonder? I can't believe that he's doing it all for free.

It'll be interesting to see if the CPS will be represented at the Inquiry on Monday. If the Telegraph is correct, lawyers representing the parties have been asked to address Lady T on whether the Inquiry should be paused. I don't think the CPS would be a party, but I'm wondering if they might be invited, if the lawyers for the hospital and the management are going to be making any sort of representation about the merits of her application or chances of this going back to appeal.

Letby is not a party at the Inquiry, so I'm not sure why McDonald is so interested.

I'm hoping we'll get some interesting insights, particularly from lawyers for the parents, but I'm not sure whether it would be appropriate for anyone, let alone the CPS, to express a view on the 'expert' panel's report. Would they even have seen the full report yet? It seems far too early. Any convicted murderer can say they've got grounds for appeal, but fortunately that carries no weight whatsoever.

Interview with ITV

Mark McDonald : “are they doing, in light of all the evidence that I’ve presented, am about to present, to the Criminal Cases Review Commission, is this time for them to step back and really start looking as to whether or not they’ve made any mistakes”

It's a bit idiotic to expect police to know what he hasn't even presented yet. IMO
