Three former bosses at the hospital where Lucy Letby murdered babies have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, Cheshire Police announced today.

The senior executives, who worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital during the neo-natal nurse's killing spree, were quizzed by detectives yesterday after being invited to attend separate police stations across Cheshire. They have since been bailed.

Their arrests form part of Cheshire Constabulary's ongoing inquiry into corporate manslaughter at the NHS Trust, where Letby murdered seven premature infants and harmed seven more between June 2015 and June 2016.

Well, the likes of Phil Hammond are going down this route, but note, he seems to admit there was "deliberate harm", something a lot of Letbyists deny. These arrests are awkward for him and his fellow armchair sleuths, so naturally, he has to try and point the finger at the consultants...

Yeah. Hammond and the other Letby defenders have consistently ignored or tried to mitigate the senior management. Why? Because they were defending Letby and were in denial that she was harming and killing babies. Instead, their vitriol is aimed solely at the doctors and consultants who tried to blow the whistle and get Letby investigated.

I think they will take a big rap. JMO but they were clearly in breech of their duties to safeguard patients in addition to threatening and punishing whistleblowers- something that the NHS is trying to shift the culture on.

Whether Letby was guilty of murder or not was never their choice to make, their choice was to listen to whistleblowers and escalate concerns through appropriate channels, rather than a) concern themselves with reputational risk and b) be going for lunch or dinner with the accused…

The attitude on some of the execs has been nothing but dismal since as well - leaving the country, no reflection shown.

It's all thanks to the families pressuring for the inquiry to be made statutory, IMO. I bet they never would have answered questions otherwise. I can imagine them giving 'no comment' interviews to Cheshire Police.

August 2023 -

"In a significant move, ministers upgraded the independent inquiry after criticism from families of the victims that it did not go far enough.

The inquiry, ordered after Letby was found guilty this month, was not initially given full statutory powers.

Health Secretary Steve Barclay said he had listened to the families.

He said he had decided a statutory inquiry led by a judge was the best way forward and "respects the wishes" of the families.

Mr Barclay said the key advantage was the power of compulsion.

"My priority is to ensure the families get the answers they deserve and people are held to account where they need to be," he added."

one thing i can't remember is if any of the management ever actually addressed the families? At thta point it wouldn't have to be anything incriminating but surely the circumstances would call for acknowledgement in some shape or form? otherwise waiting until now really just makes them look bad/worse.

props to the families still, fxxk this must have been an incredibly taxing and devastating journey for them and still ongoing. gruelling and extremely arduous.

The Letbyists are going to need to tone their noise down as of now due to the sub-judice rules. A case is "active" for those purposes as soon as arrests are made. Publishing comments even on LL's case could, I think, affect these people's potential trials.

Obviously, we need to be mindful of that too.
