Thank heavens for that! Rot in jail, Brizzi.

  • #302
Oh that is excellent news - thank goodness they got there finally.

  • #303
I'm glad they reached a verdict! I trust they made the right decision. What a sick individual he is.

Was the verdict unanimous?

  • #304
Phewwwwww! I'm glad they took their time and considered it carefully. It shows it wasn't a snap decision based on emotion.

Thank god he can't harm anyone else.

Elainera, it was a majority verdict 10-2

Thank you. I did not see that info in the article. I wanted to know because I was wondering whether a majority verdict can be used by defense in an appeal.

Well, when I was on a murder jury, it went on for 5 weeks and looked like it might go into a sixth at one point, but one of our number had booked a holiday for the following week, and another was due to go off to start university. The court clerk told us that we might get into difficulty because if it went below 10, the judge probably wouldn't allow a majority verdict of 9 because of the risk of an appeal. As it turned out we still had 12 on the last day we came to our verdict so it didn't become a problem.

That hasn't really answered your question but I don't think it will be grounds for appeal.

Sentencing should be today, I'm going for 30 years plus given the judge's enquiry about canabalism.

Perhaps it's been adjourned. Can't find it listed at the Old Bailey.

Ah well, maybe Monday,

On Monday Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC sentenced Brizzi to life in prison with a minimum of 24 years. Brizzi was also sentenced to seven years for obstructing a coroner, which will run concurrently.

The judge said there were “terrible features” of the case and that Brizzi’s drug addiction had ruined his life. He added: “Regret you express now for Mr Semple’s death has to be seen against what you did over a number of days to his body.”

[...]

The court heard that on the day of the murder Brizzi was tired and bad-tempered because he had been engaged in heavy drug use, had not slept and had been let down by someone else on Grindr. He was also dissatisfied with Semple’s appearance, describing him as fat, ugly and unattractive.

Thank you LegallyB. This site is almost grinding to a halt for me today, is it slow for anyone else?

I never understand the purpose of concurrent sentences. They should slap it on top IMO.

  • #319
Yeah, it's pretty slow for me too. Especially on mobile.

Brizzi denied trying to cannibalise parts of PC Semple, from Greenhithe in Kent, by cooking and then biting into a rib found in his kitchen bin.

But at his sentencing, the prosecution said an expert odontologist had since confirmed that even though Brizzi claimed not to remember it, he had in fact tried to eat human flesh.

ETA: What does that mean? Consistent bite marks on parts of the remaining flesh or are there other ways this could be confirmed?

Anyway... as this thread is winding down, an old post:

Jurors trying sadomasochistic cop killer Stefano Brizzi warned not try on his lead and collar or conduct any 'experimentation'

I was browsing the JBR forum a few weeks ago and proper LOL'd at a comment that reminded me of this post. (After further reading it became clear nothing unsafe happened and nobody was harmed).

Not mentioning any names...
