Okay, I was exaggerating a bit. Thank you for pointing that out, Missy. Now I remember SH saying that, too. Can you recall any other mention of their child? Serious question...because I can't.

No I can't. No mention of even how they kept their child clean when the bathroom was apparently out of bounds for days!! Wasn't like they could get near the kitchen sink. I don't think they will be winning any parent of the year awards anytime soon anyway. Even without murdering Becky that house is no place for a child so it makes you wonder what kind of life the child had.

To play devil's advocate - of course, to you and I, the house of a chronic hoarder does not seem a great place to raise a child but it doesn't necessarily mean that the child's needs weren't being met.
She could've been clean, clothed, fed, watered, played with, sang to, read to and loved irrelevant to the hoarding and irrelevant to how you or I might think is normal or okay.
Kids are raised in third world countries, kids are raised in refugee camps, kids are raised in war zones - kids are even raised in immaculate show homes with wealthy parents without their needs being met and shown love.

I've mentioned before, talk of their child will be kept to a bare minimum for the anonymity of the child.

I respect your opinions and you are indeed playing devil's advocate which is a good thing in these type of threads, imo.

I have to disagree though with your example of children living in 3rd world countries, refugee camps and war zones. Their parents have no choice, they would give their right arm to live like SH, a nice home, welfare benefits, free heath care, feed their children good food, clothe them appropriately etc.

NM and SH chose to live as they did and it was definately a very dangerous environment for a child. If any of that heavy clutter fell onto her, she would have been seriously hurt or killed. This would be then an entirely different thread if that were the case and questions asked about family or Child Services not intervening before the inevitable happened.
I agree, wealthy parents with a show home doesn't necessarily mean the child will receive love, attention and guidance.

But this isn't about NM or SH's child or their child rearing abilities. It's about a beautiful 16 yr old girl, who had a whole life ahead of her, snatched away by a man-child whose hatred for her was beyond apprehension.

NM's reason behind kidnapping Becky was to teach her a lesson about her laziness and teenage expressions, her leaving clutter around which endangered his mother. It is either false or he's a hypocrite of the major order. He saw no harm in making his child live under incredibly worse circumstances.

NM is a judgmental prat who poured negative feelings, downfalls and failings on a scapegoat, who was Becky. How dare she usurp him and receive the love and attention of his mother! How dare she be attractive, have friends, yet suffer from anxiety and anorexia and could barely leave the house, so wilful! She was gaining attention and standing her ground and lending £100 to the down and out 28 yr old man! How humiliating for him!

Something had to give and NM conceived a plan with tragic consequences. He's hurt his own mother and caused her health to suffer, that's not Becky's making! He's ripped the heart out of Becky's Dad and brother and all who loved her. NM deserves what's coming to him.

Any front door I've ever had can't just be opened from the street without a key. Otherwise anyone could walk in at any time. That's why we have keys to open the door. But to anyone outside, the door is just shut and can't be pushed open, not locked or unlocked. It can only be opened from the inside without a key.
Ahhh I see.. a lot of pvc doors can be opened from the outside..my front door can

And remember they were expecting twins when those photos were taken. At some point a midwife and health visitor would have been paying them a visit. Surely they would have had to have sorted out that mess before the twins were born, or I could imagine that social services would have been involved.
Not sure if it's changed by when I was pregnant whilst living I'm Bristol the midwife never visited my home until after the child was born. Prior to that my appointments were always at the doctors surgery

Hoarding to that extent is NOT a lifestyle choice. It's a recognised mental health issue.

I dont think it's true to say that "Becky could barely leave the house" ...

Morning all, hope everyone is ok, it's Friiiiiiday yay!! Am I right in thinking there is no court session today?

:offtopic: Also, I came across a poll thread on here last night and was surprised to see the overwhelming majority of Websleuths members are female (92% of 1000 polled), and aged over 40. Also, around 80% are American / Canadian which is kinda OBVIOUS! I'm guessing most of us following Becky's case are British, but does anyone want to admit to being *whispers* a man? ;)

I think Becky's mother deserves a mention too.

Yep, no court session today. I really hope Retribution is recovering well, and comes back!

Yes, hope everything went ok with your op, Retribution. :getwell: We'd love to hear your take on proceedings so far!

That all goes for me too.

IMO in the larger scale of things. NM has caused irreparable damage to his extended family. His tantrum has left a gaping hole. To which (as it seems by his apparent concern for his mother and her well being) he has caused his mother and her failing health probably more damage than BW could of ever of caused.
If I was so down right peed off at a family member in those circumstances. I would of stung them where it hurts. By smashing up their cell phone. (As we all know that they are an extension of the younger generations body these days)
I do hope NM goes into more depth on why he chose to do as he did. And where. And was it a bungled kidnap gone so so wrong?
Too many questions to ask.
Can't see NM being cross examined so never will know.....

Bah humbug!

Sadly, you're probably right...

Becky had received help for her anxiety and anorexia. I had read she did have trouble earlier about leaving the house, but this is the description I could find.

The 16-year-old went missing from the Crown Hill area of Bristol on Thursday last week and her dad says it is completely out of character for their "shy" and "introvert" daughter.

The fashion conscious teenager had not taken any clothes and make up, and had left her phone charger and purse at home.

Her family made a tearful appeal to ITV News.

Speaking from his home in St George, Bristol, her father Darren Galsworthy, 51, said: "Becky is introverted. She does not mix with big groups of people.

"She would not go and ask for anything or go to a till on her own - she was that kind of girl.

"This is why her disappearing is so out of character for her. I am trying to remain positive, but really starting to fear for the worse.

Also, I understand hoarding is not a lifestyle choice, but this was SH's home and she's not the hoarder. I'm sorry if you're taking offence to all my posts.

I think this is similar to how it's mostly women who read crime novels. Apparently we have an inherent wish to see justice done.

True that! Though I'm a 37 year old Australian living in the UK :)

You see, I never knew that. My husband and dad are/were both really into crime novels, my mum and sister and I are not. So I suppose I just had it in my head that men had more of a predisposition to crime stuff. I reckoned most posters here were female, but wouldn't have at guessed 92%!

Oh man (not saying you're a man..), what on earth made you do that?! I seem to know lots of families emigrating down under at the moment and having been there I understand why, not so much the other way round lol! I hate winter, so excuse me if I'm a bit grumpy for the next 6 months!

My mum is the crime novel and crime tv show queen, and she got me interested in it all from a young age, we used to watch CSI followed by Law and Order on a Friday night (when I was in primary school!). She has mostly stayed interested in fictional crime however whereas I much prefer reading about true crime and real criminals getting what they deserve.
