This has got to be one of the most bizarre cases I've ever heard of. What are the ramifications for KW if she does not testify? although I just can't see that not happening, not after Williams is practically putting all the blame on her - she surely would not be willing to chance a life sentence because of not testifying. I would love to know what warped plan SW came up with during all those months while awaiting trial, for her to 'fool the jury'. Who knows, maybe this is still going according to their plan!

Just seen this !!

We’re back at Preston Crown Court where Sarah Williams, one of the two women accused of plotting then killing business woman Sadie Hartley at her home in Helmshore in January, is set to continue to give evidence.

The court has just been told that one of the defendants Katrina Walsh will not be giving evidence.

Mornin all ........... just seen that too Jessie. IMO she is mad not to do so. I imagine her barrister is not best pleased either.

Jut picked this up from the Law Pages

Trial (Part Heard) - Defence SARAH WILLIAMS Case Closed - 10:41

I thought the feed last night said Williams would be answering further questions from her own barrister - I did think it sounded odd ( although I know it is allowed ) so wonder if that was a typo ?

Is that it then do you think?

Oh, this sounds as though they were expecting Walsh to testify and she has only just said that she will not.

Well that's both of them guilty then! But we'll need to wait until Monday or Tuesday for confirmation from the jury :D

Sorry Tortoise, I spent so much time relaying the info to OH, I delayed in my posting.

I really do think Walsh has made a poor decision here.

She's too scared. If she (Kit) had pleaded guilty and assisted with the case against SW, she could have at least alleviated her own conscience and hoped for a slightly reduced sentence. Nuts.

Goodness, a shock. By not testifying that's saying she was equally involved apart from just not committing the actual murder herself - can think of no other reason why she wouldn't.

Sorry if I mess up your thread, not sure how it all works on here. My view is kits barrister is going to play on kit being Sarah W victim too. Totally under her spell and used as her scape goat. Kit is very different to the norm and by taking the stand she will come across as a bit of a nutter to the jury. I think her barrister has advised her to keep quiet and in the closing speeches he will go down the victim route for kit, Sarah Williams being the evil monster who's used her.

Intriguing! What sort of thing might she have said, do you think?

And you're not messing anything up! People with personal knowledge of protagonists in a case are a real asset. Please contribute anything you feel able to.

It's hard to describe what I mean. You would have to of met kit to understand. She's just not quite all there! Very intelligent lady with degrees etc but she herself is a very odd character. She would often speak to you with her eyes closed, walking off mid conversation but carrying on speaking to you expecting you to follow her around! I also don't think she can be that weak of a character having travelled around America alone on her Harley Davidson!

If that is the total amount of SW's defence, then the jury would be idiots to find her not guilty!

She sounds quite the character! I would have been interested in seeing her take the stand.

Many thanks for your input, it is very interesting and helpful.

I wonder if Tony Cross will be able to paint her as the victim. I know he's good but I think it may be an uphill task. If I were on that Jury I would see her reluctance to take the stand as weighing heavily against her.

ps as Cherwell said, you are not messing anything up. Local knowledge is hugely appreciated - many thanks.

Yes. If she wasn't going to defend herself, it's difficult to understand why she didn't plead guilty.
At least she could have presented herself as not really believing SW would go so far, but taking responsibility anyway eg "I was afraid of her but I should have stopped her".

This one wasn't married obviously. A defence witness -

[h=1]"Sadie Hartley accused: Third affair with ski instructor"[/h]
"Alleged stun gun killer Sarah Williams had an affair with a third ski instructor while still in a relationship with her 75-year-old long-term lover, a jury has been told.

...

Her murder trial at Preston Crown Court has already heard that Williams embarked on an "intense, passionate" affair from June 2011 to April 2012 with married Thai martial arts gym owner, Somapat Sitiwatjana, 47.
They first met when he taught her to ski on the indoor slopes of Manchester's Chill Factore complex.
Williams's affair with ex-fireman Ian Johnston began in September 2013 and eventually led, the prosecution say, to the defendant stabbing to death his partner, Ms Hartley, after he refused to leave her and she wanted Mr Johnston to herself.

...

On Tuesday, the jury was read a statement by another ski instructor, Andy Poole, who confirmed he had a year-long relationship with Williams starting in 2012 - months after they met at the French ski resort of Tignes in January that year.
The delivery driver said he stayed in the same ski lodge as Williams and Mr Hardwick, and that he swapped text messages and phone calls with Williams on his return to the UK.
It developed into a sexual relationship after they met up several times, he said.
In the statement given in January this year, he said: "I did have feelings for Sarah but was aware she was still with David who was her long-term partner.
"My relationship with Sarah lasted 12 months and eventually broke down because Sarah would not leave David and I wanted a proper relationship."
He said they stopped seeing each other by "mutual agreement and with no hard feelings".
They had stayed in touch and had no reason to fall out with Williams who he always got on well with, he added."
