Interesting info in that article:

"Yesterday, as police visited the home of John’s sister Katie and her husband Mike, both 32, in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, next-door neighbour Doreen Nixon, 82, said: “Katie and Michael are really nice people. They went on holiday on Friday.

“But 20 minutes after they left, the police arrived. I last saw Samantha here about a year ago.”

Mike’s Facebook profile carried many pictures of Samantha until mid-afternoon yesterday, when it was abruptly taken down."

Very interesting. The Media always find a way around restrictions/requests. Wonder where this case is going? If this couple really did leave home to go on holiday the very morning Samantha disappeared, what tipped off the Police so quickly to go to their house? Reports about this are a bit unclear though. This article says the Police turned up at the house 20 minutes after they left to go on holiday on the Friday but another says Police have only been stationed outside since Sunday?

The real frustration with a case where the Police don't want to reveal any information (most cases these days...) is that we end up with only two poor sources (The Sun, Mail) to base any discussion on: Take the Mail going into more detail than the Sun article:

Neighbours of Miss Eastwood said a man resembling Mr Stirling was with Mr Peake on Saturday morning, knocking doors to see if anybody had seen the missing woman.

82-year-old Doreen Nixon, said Mr and Mrs Stirling went on holiday 'on Friday'.

I also went looking for the source of the station thing. The Sentinel is the only one saying it was a false lead but they're quite probably the only press asking the question. Scroll way down to find quote. Updates: Search for midwife Samantha Eastwood enters seventh day

"Police have revealed there were no sightings of Samantha Eastwood at Stoke Station at midday on Saturday.

Police intelligence had suggested the 28-year-old had been seen around the station. But CCTV has failed to find any trace of her and police are now concentrating their investigations elsewhere."

The original info about the false train station lead came from the LE website when they released the footage of her leaving the hospital.

"There have been no further confirmed sightings and no sightings of her at Stoke-on-Trent railway station."

Although the date now says Aug 3, this was originally posted
Wednesday and quoted upthread somewhere.

I currently live in stoke-on-trent and this is super worrying and heartbreaking. Marking my spot here

Yes! Coincidence?

I also just noticed this reading the daily mail.

It's the (previously potential) brother in law's house the police have been stationed outside for the last few days isn't it?

I noticed that the ex's name etc had been released by the press but I'm never sure how I feel about that. His age didn't match the arrested man so I chose to not to insert his name here. Now we have his sis and b-i-l's details.

Don't get me wrong, something about this situation reeks BUT remember the mess just a few months back when Gaia Pope went missing and that local family got their lives and home pulled apart when they had nothing to do with it? I'm feeling a little uncomfortable.

Edit to add: the Sun article says "Her blue Volvo was still parked in the drive with the keys inside, suggesting she may have been intending to go out when something happened." Keys inside and parked differently to usual. I don't like that one bit. (Mystery of 'happy-go-lucky' midwife at centre of 'biggest' police hunt )

Edit yet again: I've not seen the police appeal directly for dashcam/helmetcam footage. They need to.

Forensics with the car should be known soon surely

I noticed on a map that the property in question is pretty much halfway between the hospital and Samantha's home. I'm wondering if she stopped off there/somewhere on her way back and never made it home. The scream heard in the afternoon is the only thing we have that possibly indicates she did, I think.

I don't drive but everyone I know has a particular automatic way of parking at their home. Samantha's car being parked 'wrong' has really gotten under my skin.

At this point I think she made it home, had a visitor known to her, something happened (she screamed), and the person then either used her car to dispose of her and brought it back (parked wrong), or the person used their own car and moved Samantha's car to be able to position his own car closer to the house.

I guess there's no CCTV anywhere close to the house?

I wonder if it was her normal habit to leave keys in her car?
Thoughts (of really no consequence) are someone else did that after using her car for something. It would avoid going back into her house afterwards.
So many scenarios going through my mind.
Flipping heck though - hearing a scream and not checking on it, hope I never do that.

Like a few things right now the detail about whether the keys (I believe this model has a key you insert into the dash and press a button to start?) were left in the car or the house. The scream at around 14:00 is obviously something concerning as you would expect at that time she would still be in bed given she was on nights.

A number of things remain to be clarified and just hope the Police are on top of this and not on the back foot.

The DM has details about the time of the arrest.

"Sunday July 29

8am: Police launch first public appeal for information to find her

2pm: A 32-year-old man is arrested on suspicion of kidnap

Monday July 30

5pm: Suspect is released on bail"

(Mystery deepens over midwife Samantha Eastwood who vanished a week ago | Daily Mail Online)

So he was arrested very soon after the initial appeal. Something immediate pointed in his direction. The police are being very tight-lipped about her phone and where it is. Perhaps a phone ping led them to the second address.

I see they're now asking for dashcam footage. It's a bit late a week later. Most footage will have been recorded over by now.

"Several key questions police are asking the public

  • Did you see any suspicious activity or vehicles in Greenside Avenue on Friday?
  • Did you see Samantha's black vehicle, Volvo XC60 move?
  • Do you hold any dashcam footage for Greenside Avenue or streets in the immediate vicinity between 7.30am on July 27 to 10am on July 28?"

Good to hear from you TTWO. I have no doubt police are spending much time checking CCTV of the local areas, and hopefully that will provide some leads.

Bit of a coincidence eh @CoverMeCagney (and hello, long time no speak :) )

We shall see what happens, I wonder if he had to fly back from his holiday? I haven't really got the details straight on this case yet (school holidays, not got a minute to myself!!) so need to sit and catch up.

And hello back atcha, think I mentioned you on the DeOrr thread a couple of weeks ago!
