On the Monday, he was at 37SR and 123StR at the same time, driving a BMW, a red Sierra and two Fiestas. Later that day he threatened his ex over the phone. So he had a lot on his plate.

This is a 1983 Ford promo video for the Fiesta that SJL drove. I watched it hoping it would say something about driver height. No dice, but I did notice at this point that the driver is clearly Mr Kipper.

Been trying to find out. It doesn't appear to be in the public domain. However, the descriptions provided by a number of his victims are given by CBD.

'Jean', the woman he raped standing up in front of her son, thought he was 5'10".

Julia Holman, who fought him off, thought he was 5'8" to 5'10".

The two assistants in the Leamington Spa shop he tried to attack described him as 5'6". A garage employee who saw him in the washroom where ropes he had hidden were later found described him as 5'8".

The Reading rape victim described him as being of average height, whatever she meant by that.

5'6" versus 5'10" is a pretty wide range but the 'Jean' and Julia estimates were perhaps less able to be accurate. In one case the woman had her back to him during much of the attack, and in the other, the victim was in a car he was stooping to try to enter.

The interesting questions are whether he's a height match for 1/ the 37SR sightings, and 2/ the driving position of SJL's Fiesta. IMO, it's Yes to the first but No to the second.

He was not tall and a fellow forum member described him as 'puny'. I did once find two sites that listed him as 5ft 8 but cannot locate those links any more - this site describes him as between 5ft 6 and 5ft 10.

I think it's fair to say that he is definitely not tall and most likely is 5ft 8.

On board the ship she’d insist loudly in a plummy Richmond accent that her name was ‘Susannah with an “H” ’. As a result, she quickly became known by staff and crew as simply ‘H’. Her parents had in fact officially registered her birth in Cheltenham in 1961 as ‘Susanna’, without an ‘H’ – a version which, by all accounts, she detested.

Am I right in thinking that the source for that is almost certainly AS? Especially the 'plummy Richmond accent' detail?

I don't recall anyone else suggesting she was plummy, although her acquaintance BW does have that sort of Diana-yah voice that some southern women affected at the time.

Also, she is said to have been at Sturgis for only 9 months in July, meaning she must have started at the beginning of November 1985. That would mean she had been a (presumably) freelance beautician for 18 months. I'm surprised to learn beauticians made enough money in 1985 to buy two-bedroom flats in Putney. If she paid £60k for it less a 10k deposit from Granny, she'd have needed to be on about 16k a year to get that mortgage. As a point of comparison, I got a graduate job offer from Shell in 1985, and the wedge was less than £10k. I was not aware that beauticians made 60% more than that.

All of which is a way of saying I would like to understand the money situation better.

If they were baffled, should there not have been more detailed investigation? What is the suggestion as to where she gained excess income from? Or was she in debt to someone?

One 'soft' way you can tell that an actor is a shorty is by looking at the width of his head relative to his shoulders. Heads very much less in size than height. Here's Tom Cruise, who's 5'8". And here's Alan Ritchson, who's 6'2". Noticeably wider shoulders. In fact a quick and dirty measurement in MS Paint says that Cruise's head is 34% of the width of his shoulders, whereas Ritchson's is only 31%.

Cannan has shoulders like a coat hanger and his head looks almost the same width. I am sticking with 'weed'.

Another bit of soft evidence is exactly the fact that his height isn't public. This could be because if he's 5'7", he couldn't have been the last driver of the car. This would cast substantial doubt on him as a suspect.

I hadn't seen that profile before, so thanks. It's interesting that despite a private education he managed three O Levels, five GCSEs and no A Levels. This suggests he's rather thick. I can imagine not doing too well at school because your school's no good, but the best explanation for that meagre academic haul is that he's a bit of a low watt bulb.

You are left with the feeling that he hasn't got basic facts straight. The first two points above are things people came up 14 years after the fact, when the police started asking for Cannan sightings. Their value as evidence would have to be nil.

There is also no evidence at all of any intended viewing in StR. There's some debate over whether SJL left with one set of keys or none, but there's no evidence she left with two sets.

I totally agree, in every picture / video he looks like someone of small stature, albeit in later life he is now bulkier. There's a lot of ways to gauge this, including how big in proportion to the body and shoulder width the head looks.

She did intend to visit the POW but that evening and she vanished at lunchtime. There was never any evidence she made it to the pub. You can’t search a place without a shred of evidence.

The bit in bold - JC was released from jail Friday 25 July 1986. SL disappeared Monday 28 July (3 days later), but was Cannon ringing this female that day!?!

A strange thing to do if John Cannon was involved SLs disappearance, abduction and murder?!

interesting. if JC did ring her on the 28th july, this would rule him out in the lamplugh case.
