Urgent: Websleuths Does Not Endorse Nor Condone Any Sort Of "Protest"!

  • #21
From my understanding it happened on another site; Tricia was being pro-active that her site wasn't involved and would NOT be involved in any way. Go Tricia, nipping that in the bud!!!!
I did not see her mention another site.. but perhaps I am wrong.. just that she heard it was happening.

I stand by what I initially posted... that anyone who would use websleuths as a platform for this needs to back up and think about this. It is not right.

Please don't misunderstand. No one here was advocating for this at WS. Tricia wanted to get out in front of rumors we were hearing about this on a blog and in another comment form of news media.

It was a statement she wanted to make as Board Owner that this is her policy. :blowkiss: You are a great bunch of posters and we knew we could count on each and every one of you.

Instead of doing something useless like organizing protest, why don't these people do something usseful like organizing searches? I know in the begining that LE didn't won't outside help, but they are no longer searching so why don't the people out there go look? Search the Huge park, along side roads, you dont have to go on private property to search. It is much more productive than shouting in front of someones house.

Yes, also if you don't live in the area go help children in other ways. The Ronald McDonald house around here has volunteers come cook meals for the parents of children in the hospital, there are volunteers needed for special needs kids, one just needs to take time to look.

This case is terribly frustrating. I think people feel helpless, hopeless, and want to just DO something to find him. Helping other kids is a great way to lose some of that helpless feeling. You walk away still feeling so sad about Kyron still missing, but you've done something that helped a child.

Donating money to causes finding the missing or helping children is another positive way to assist. Texas Equusearch is a wonderful organization; there are many others- St. Jude's is awesome.

Any lynchmob protests would be coins into Houze's bag anyway since it would strengthen his argument that it's a witchhunt.

Some may think this will pressure a certain someone into giving up the info, but IMO, the person will just enjoy the attention.

Thank you for posting this. I saw one brief mention elsewhere and rolled my eyes at the idea of it.

I think most all Websleuthers here know we don't support any kind of vigilente behavior. We are a dignified group, not bashers. Thank You Tricia.

I am relieved to read that no one was actually suggesting this on WS. I did take the thread topic as implying that someone had.

He'd be right, wouldn't he. All it takes is one mentally off-kilter person in the group to make it a dangerous situation for the accused. I would be terrified to be the accused in that situation, or to be a neighbor of the accused -- no telling what a group with a mob mentality will do that will "accidentally" hurt others in the vicinity.

We just recently decided about the "main stream media" rule.

We did this because it got so wild with the accusations and the sleuthing of innocent people that the moderators felt, and I agreed, that we had to curtail this. I have to give the credit for this extremely good rule to our wonderful mods. Thank you.

I am all for sleuthing. It is pretty obvious since Websleuths.com is my full time job. It's all I do. But I think we all would want others to be careful about what they say if we found ourselves, by no fault of our own, caught up in a high profile case.

I know not allowing discussions about people and situations until it hits the main stream media can be very frustrating but depending on the situation we can and do relax the rule a bit occasionally.

When Law Enforcement comes to me and asks about what we do at Websleuths the best way I describe it is like this;

"Imagine we are all gathered together in a room, we are given a certain amount of information, and then we spitball. Meaning we throw out ideas, theories, look up a information if we can, and we continue to discuss it until we have answers. One big giant spit-balling session with the entire universe all in one place. That's Websleuths.com"

If anyone here can think of a better way to describe what we do in just a few sentences feel free to post your thoughts here. Love to read what you write:)

Tricia

And that's what I love about WS. You all try to keep it civilized and not let it get out of control with the bashing and the hatefulness I see other places.
I skim other boards sometimes in the hope of finding a bit of news, but I nearly always leave there shaking my head in disgust at some of the stuff I read. I'm amazed at the depths people will go to when they are hiding behind a computer screen.
I don't think I can describe what we do here any better. Sometimes those "spitball's" hurt a little when they land on your nose or in your eye, but if they wake us up and keep us focused... it's all good!
This idea of protesting is a bad idea. Don't do it. It could cause a lot of trouble and might get someone hurt. And it won't solve a thing.
