I certainly never meant just ANY family member. Sorry I never clarified it! I meant miners!!!!!

Could you please tell me how the miners get certified by MSHA? What type of schooling do they have to take?

Murray sent his own employees into that mine. Miners that work there everyday. Are they certified by MSHA???? Just wondering....

When you are employed by a coal mining company (this may vary from state to state) the owners are required to send their employees to MSHA mine safety classes every 6 months. In Pennsylvania it is a 2 day 8 hour each day course. Different classes and qualifications for different jobs. Foremans are required to take a more extensive class. They teach safety, mining and first aid classes. I'm speaking about surface mining, strip mining, but I'm sure underground has the same if not more regulations from MSHA.

Yes it does conflict with the mine being closed........
The families are meeting now with the mining reps, according to MSNBC the presser is delayed for that reason.

Its all about the almighty dollar, heaven help the fact if the equipment got damaged. :slap:

The families are also meeting with lawyers right now... I mean come on how sad is that... that shouldn't be necessary.... MSHA and Murray corp. should have looked out for them!

Drew, here's your link to them wanting to mine there again:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=13746128&ft=1&f=1001
Despite that, Moore said the company expects to resume operations at some point — there is recoverable coal in other parts of the 5,000-acre mine. He said he didn't discuss that prospect with family members.

Thank you JanetElaine

At some point! Not tomorrow! Some point will be after MSHA gives the ok. It could be years before they open that mine back up. What some of you may not know is, not one decision is made by Mr Murray alone. As soon as MSHA was notified about a mine accident, they took over. End of story.
Why shouldn't they recover their equipment? Why let thousands of dollars of equipment just sit?

Because it is too dangerous right now to set foot in the mine? Drew I've been talking to locals over the past few days including the sister of one of the miners trapped... just talking to them is enough reason why they shouldn't risk any man's life to get some dumbass equipment out, but let the families forever wonder about their men!

And MSHA is full of boloney. Just because MSHA 'says so' doesn't mean it's the truth or the right thing! That's what they're all experiencing there right now. 'After MSHA gives the okay'. Yeah right. Mining coal makes money, digging up some miners loses them money, eh, they were disposable anyway.....

(Sorry Drew, my anger is no directed at you, but you seem to think MSHA is all good news, well guess what, they're not).

The families should never have to meet with lawyers now.

I sincerely don't blame them all Murray Corp has done is lie to them.
Can you imagine when they heard on all the TV stations Bob Murray was tending to the families & they hadn't seen him how mad they got?

We all understand the mining ops will open again at CCM. Take care of the business at hand first! Sat night they gave the family alot of hope.....then Sun they come out with none. The families are confused.

They just want answers seriouly that isn't asking for much.

No,I'm sorry. I'm sorry my post came across as pro MSHA. I didn't mean it that way. I'm just saying that independent coal operators hands are tied because of MSHA. MSHA is calling the shots here. Believe me that mine won't be opened up until MSHA says so. I'm not defending them at all. Just stating what the coal owners have to put up with.

JanetElaine,

The families are going threw he!! right now. They're being told we're leaving your family member in the mine. We'll make it a tomb for them.

But whoa.....wait a second we have equipment in that mine & its valuable. To get to our eqipment we can risk lifes. What in the he!! kind of a message is that?

I also agree MSHA is full of it. If they give the ok for that to happen I hope the head of MSHA gets fired!

Drew go back & start reading the very first posts & you'll see what the owner of this mine has done. COA/ COA & COA.......

Go back to part 1 read the first 4 pages & you'll see what happened & the truth. He insisted there was a earthquake that caused the mine to collapse.

He took family members & news media into the mine. To prove how safe it was. MSHA wasn't calling the shots Murry was. MSHA never offered to take total strangers into the mine. Murray did.

Cheko, that's one of their main problems with MSHA - they were supposed to be calling the shots the moment they arrived at the mine. Yet on Wednesday Murray takes the media underground all the way to where the rescuers were working. And MSHA got there on Monday. So who's calling the shots where... then the rescue mission turns deadly and all of a sudden Murray disappears off the screen and MSHA 'is in charge'? WTH is going on? Yanno?

I have been reading this thread since day one. I am personally involved with the coal industry and have not commented for two reasons. One, people simply do not like "coal people" . It's not my imagination, I've lived with it for 46 years. Two, I felt my comments would be bias so I kept them to myself until today.

What you don't understand and what the media isn't telling you is. Mr Murray does not make one decision that MSHA doesn't approve first. They are just letting him take the rap. IMO from experience.

That's how a lot of them feel, and that (for example) is where my MSHA rant came from earlier, about MSHA not being good news. :o

I don't like it whatsover that they are lying. When Rob Moore said that Bob Murray had been administering to the families personally I took his word for it. Now the families are saying they haven't seen hide nor hair of Murray since the accident Thursday night. I'm wondering if he has been taking care of the families who had loved ones die or were injured Thursday and if not "Where is Murray?" Why hasn't he made a public appearance? Was he advised not to by their lawyer? I hope all the facts come out at some point.

RKnowley what do you think of the lies that is coming out of the owners of the mine???? They lie then try to cover it / then tell more lies....personally I don't like it! I feel if they lie about something as trivial as administering to the needs of the families what big lies are they going to tell?

Such as below from the link you posted.

Murray Energy Corp. Vice President Rob Moore confirmed that Bob Murray has not visited with the families of the missing six since Thursday. Moore said Murray has been attending to the needs of the three men who died and the six who were injured on Thursday.

Thank you RKnowley, I value your opinion. Your always a fair & unbiased poster. Unlike me I call it as I see it! :blushing:

Guess they all dogged us again. From here on they're all a bunch of liars in my book.

We seen who was calling the shots & IT WAS NOT MSHA!
Murray went into hiding....he is probably consulting with lawyers.

Murray speaks out in a letter!

HUNTINGTON — Outspoken mine owner Bob Murray may never again appear before reporters awaiting news of efforts to rescue six men who have been trapped inside the Crandall Canyon Mine for more than two weeks.
"Our efforts in the digging and recovering have left me such that I cannot be a good spokesman to the public media on behalf of our efforts to rescue the original six miners," Murray wrote in a letter dated today.

Drew,
I don't have a problem with you being in the coal industry, unless your Murray or his lieing stench men.

Mr Murray made ALL the decisions! It was his mine, his employees & personally nobody was / or is going to tell him what to do.

Why in the world would MSHA let Murray take the rap? Makes totally no sense. Is MSHA telling Murray to hide???? Please explain....

Also why doesn't the mines get each miner a device so they can be found in case of a cave in? Why is the Co equipment more important then the families of the miners? Please explain the reasoning.....
