And convenient for KR, ER is not her to defend himself.

Belittle her?

He wanted her to get help.

Belittle her?

She stole $250,000 from a house she had 0% equity in. She knew what the prenup stipulated.

Belittle her?

Protect his assets.

KR was failing at flipping big.

If anything, at the time of his death, perhaps KR was promising to pay him back, from the proceeds of her big sale. That may have been worth celebrating.

What he didn't know -- she wouldn't be paying him back. In fact, the sale wouldn't balance her books. She didn't HAVE $250K to repay him, only grave debt.

The life insurance she did collect didn't stop the hemorrhaging either. Money that was supposed to go to her, presumably also to care for the children. Instead it was gone in mere months, eaten by her revolving debt and crushing interest payments.

Bad wife.
Bad mom.
Bad friend.
Bad investor.
Bad person.

Yup, Thats why I ask for info, so I understand the history and the dynamic. The family didnt belittle her, they were cautious, and had reason to be.
She told Eric’s bff that she had 80 k into their house, and put 60k into a pool. Is that even true?
I know i should go back and watch the testimony of the forensic accountant.

I am not impressed with her attorneys, but do you think they ever, after seeing all the damning evidence, tried to get Kouri to plead guilty? Do you think they tried to get a plea deal? I don't think the state ever considered it because there case is so strong. Also, as far as the negative thoughts about the Richins sisters and their actions, they were absolutely right all along. I am sure they wish they had done more.

Maybe the defense was banking on what @Legalmama said below they can’t link Kouri to the fentanyl.
This is the problem with the state's case so far. They have not connected fentanyl with Kouri. They do have the dealer's comments during his interrogation that was shown in court that he sold fentanyl, but he later recanted on the stand, saying he only sold ocycodone. They need to introduce evidence/testimony that M30's were often mixed with fentanyl too.
The circumstantial evidence such as the money/debt motive, affair, emails from her about a bad marriage along with testimony etc is abundant. Hopefully that will be enough but so far I still would have reasonable doubt if a juror. (although I think she probably did it)

Wonderful work @cujenn81 ….. thank you for summarizing and outlining…..

And one particular date in that sticks out IMO. Like a bright bulb on a tree. Or a blinding flashlight in the eyes. February 14, 2022. February 14. Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day!

And IIUC, look what it seems the defendant KR was commencing? What other way to ‘lure’ someone in.

I am sure this hasn’t been lost on others following this case. I’ve just not been closely following it of late. That summary you have given sure helps. Diabolical comes to mind for this defendant.

I’ll complete typing what I think of KR while I sit on my hands. SMH. MOO

In jail since her arrest thankfully! The kids with ER’s sister and no idea if they’ve visited her

here is a good timeline for how their marriage and the financial disagreements progressed. I suspect that ER felt KR wasn't fiscally responsible from the get go - hence the premarital agreement before their 2013 wedding.

Time only appears to have proven his instincts were correct in that regard as their marriage progressed up through his death.

https://www.abc4.com/richins/kouri-richins-complete-timeline-in-murder-case/
This explains Kouri's post-murder plan to take over Eric's business (as told to Eric's sister as soon as he died). Kouri had too much to gain by murdering him. The trust changed everything.

Kouri must have felt really stupid after murdering Eric (if she did) only to discover that she got nothing. She owned nothing.

"Kouri and Eric signed a prenup that outlined several financial agreements for their marriage. It detailed that several assets would remain in Eric’s ownership if they divorced. However, Kouri Richins could claim ownership of some of the assets if “[Eric] should die prior to [Kouri] while the two are lawfully married,” the prenup states.

The list of assets included Eric’s 50 percent ownership interest in C&E Stone Masonry, LLC, a forklift, skidster, scaffolding and saws, two trucks, and a dump trailer."

(although I think she probably did it)
Yes! This is what scares me. Do I think she is guilty? Yes, but I'm not being held to the same standard as the jury.

....I too worry that the state (*as of now) has not connected her to the fentanyl enough. I need more from them and thankfully they aren't done with their case yet. The testimony that she got the pills from Carmen - I feel good about that. But I need them like you said - to reinforce that the pills had to have had fentanyl in them. How do I arrive at that? Because it was in Eric's system in abundance and there is NO evidence whatsoever that Eric obtained these pills and took them on his own. If he had there likely would be some kind of evidence of that. i.e. how he got them and from who, when, etc.

My worry is that there could easily be a juror(s) who says: "how can we know beyond a reasonable doubt that it was Kouri that gave it to him?"

I think the state can get there (I believe) with their next witness: the detective. I really hope they hammer it home.

In the beginning, I had my doubts that they would have enough circumstantial evidence, but I think they've done a solid job so far - piling it on. I hope Monday is a strong day for the state.

I listened to the opening statements again today and I liked that the state pointed out that there was absolutely no evidence of anyone else getting the fentanyl into Eric's system specifically from Bloodworth:

"The evidence will prove that KR murdered Eric Richins, but also consider the evidence that proves that Eric Richins did NOT kill himself or die accidentally. The evidence will prove that KR had the motive, means and opportunity to murder Eric Richins. But please consider the evidence that proves NO ONE else did. "

my understanding was that they divorced prior to her untimely death in the accident. The divorce apparently wasn't a smooth experience and so his family advised him prior to marrying Kouri to get a prenup and avoid some of the possible arguing if another divorce happened. ER was mentioned in his first wife's obituary so it must not have been such a contentious divorce that they hated one another after. JMO

Julie Ann Jorgenson Obituary January 6, 2011 - Serenicare
I wonder why they got married. Eric wanted a to marry someone who made a home for him and his children. Kouri knew that before they were married. After they were married, she decided that it was not her personality to spend time with her children while they were growing up? The marriage was doomed before it started.

"Finally, she addressed how her husband had not wanted her to work as his first wife had allegedly cheated on him with someone at work and he preferred the “typical conservative life” with a “homemaker wife.”

However, Richins said that was not her personality."

True, but the medical examiner said that street drugs, such as oxycodone and oxycontin, quite often contain street quality fentanyl, even though the pills are not sold as fentanyl.

Just in the last few years there has been an increasing number of deaths in the younger generations due to buying on the internet what they think is a feel good drug that turns out to be laced with fentanyl.

She touched up her lipstick in the courtroom the day her lover testified.
She DID!!!! If you watched on Grizzly or Emily Baker you missed it. They skip over the breaks.

It was right after Grossmann's direct as he left for a restroom break. Nestor gets a refill of water for Kouri and it's when she turns around.

Around 6:30:00 on the east Idaho news feed on Day 8.

@otto
"I wonder why they got married"

Kouri got pregnant. Eldest was born before the wedding. Rural Utah I'm thinking a family of prominence like the Richins, I AM GUESSING there was pressure in one way or another especially since they're LDS... to make it look right.
