I find the only major difference between Maura and Katelin is that Maura's family was out there searching for her. I don't know if KAs family is for all I know they are but we haven't seen any huge pushes in the media or social media to find her. The Maura case haunts me. Katelin let someone know if your ok.

Hmm, I don't really see any similarities to Maura's case. A bunch of stressful/unusual things happened preceding Maura's disappearance and she drove off on her own. Her family was very vocal about searching, asking for help, keeping her name out there. Katelin's case seems (from what little MSM perspective we have) kind of the opposite. She had been visiting her sister and new baby, was looking forward to going back to Arizona to her girlfriend and starting cosmetology school. She was dropped off by the ex-Step-Dad and poof. Nothing. No press conferences at the scene saying "This is where I dropped her off at this time, please if anyone saw her..." The vague "his car was in the area" statement from LE.

And this one, for me, has been really hard to separate my theories/opinions from MSM facts and all the other social media drama. Just with MSM facts, I would say definitely not missing on her own. But having read too much craziness on the FB pages, I don't know...or as many have said, maybe a combination. Maybe she started out just trying to get out of the middle of a mess and something bad happened after that.

All speculation since we dont know that any of this has happened;

People cheat on partners all the time.
People feel trapped in relationships and want to get out of them all the time.
People have trouble with their family and friends and want to escape all the time.

People do not drop off the face of the earth and cease all contact with everyone they know all the time.

My thoughts exactly and really, if she was just wanting to get away from the relationship, why not just tell her family and stay with them?

I personally feel based off of MSM that she is missing on her own accord. I believe perhaps she had met someone online, prearranged for them to be at the mall. Dating websites or fb something of that'd sort. (Hence the reason AR, made her comment she just got all of the facts) Perhaps she just wanted a new fresh start. IMO her family and LE know more than they talk about. Since there is little on their end to attempt to find her.

Again this is all my opinion based off of the little MSM information. I'm sure her family is overwhelmed IF in fact they don't know where she is. IMO!!!!

It's crossed my mind that maybe she joined a convent or a commune. There are both in Virginia, within hours of that area.
I know it's very remote possibility but both could be done without personal effects needed. Both would offer food, clothing, shelter, and privacy.
Just a weird thought...

A second high-profile case that took place about the same time also remains a mystery at this point, Pearce said.
Katelin Akens, 19, went missing Dec. 5 and her whereabouts are still unknown. She was dropped off at the Springfield Mall that day and was supposed to take a flight to Arizona later that evening, but she never got on the plane.
Her luggage was found a couple of days later in a drainage ditch on River Road in Spotsylvania. Her plane ticket and other personal items were in it.
Spotsylvania detectives took over the case, even though it remains unclear if a crime took place in Spotsylvania or if a crime took place at all.
Akens is a native of Caroline County. Her stepfather lives in Spotsylvania and took her to Springfield that day, police said.

I think it would be great if we had a "legal directive in case of disappearance" similar to a will, power of attorney, Do Not Resuscitate (DNR), organ donor directions, etc., that names people who have the right to act on your behalf if you disappear.

I'm really actually surprised this isn't done as a routine along with all those other things. If I go missing, I want my family to be able to access bank accounts, cell phone records, etc. You could just name one or two people, the way you name powers of attorney, and at such time they believe you are missing (you wouldn't even have to put a time frame on it, no number of hours, just the person's best judgement) they can access your records to attempt to find you or determine what happened.

Of course, you would have to have certain parameters - attempted cell phone contact, attempted contact at work and home, and close friends, etc.

If you don't want people to look for you if you disappear, same as if you don't want to donate your organs upon your death, just don't sign one.

That's my worst fear for Katelin...that everyone assumes she is okay and on her own by her choice but what if she's not?? She is only 19 and doesn't seem to have much experience being responsible for herself.

IMO, unless she had a lot of help from a second person I don't see why or how she would leave her situation/relationship with AR. Maybe she met someone online and fell in love...but how many times has that turned out bad for someone? I just want her family to know that she is safe and make her OWN DECISIONS.

From what we've seen in MSM from the family, she seems like the type of young lady that would have contacted someone by now to let them know she was ok.

Same here, I want to throw my hands up but just can't. I did message the Spotsylvania Sheriff's dept and they replied that the investigation is ongoing.

You know, if LE were all vocal about the ciccone case, I'd say maybe Katelin left of her own accord or they were brushing her case aside. Silence on BOTH cases is a bit alarming, and I'm not sure why, but it is.

If we go by stereotype, these should be pretty "sensational" cases. And yet nothing. Why?
