Nancy Bump lives on the neighborhood and knew something had happened when she heard a helicopter circling overhead before sunrise.
Bump says search dogs led investigators to the river near her home.
"They walked right down to the end of the dock and ever since then they have been looking in the water," said Bump.

I'm going with the dogs. I'm no expert here but these were blood hounds that were initially used in the search and from everything that I've read, these dogs will follow the persons
most recent scent first. Regardless if HaLeigh had previously walked down that path at one time to go fishing or she played and rode her bike thru out that park - the dogs are gonna go toward the most recent scent of her. I sure don't recall anything being said about the dogs repeatedly going back to the front yard - where HaLeigh was said to have been playing, supposedly riding her bike and doing wheelies before going inside for the night first... JMO - (which IMO means the dogs had the most recent trail)
