I no longer feel that the LE are handling this case very oddly, or differently than they should.
Now that we are two weeks down the road it's easier to not focus on holding them to each and every word they said in those first few days.
At this point I feel like this is pretty much what has happened with the LE.
No matter what they said at first, or how we interpreted those words, I think they felt Kyron had wondered off. By searching in the areas around the school they covered this possibility as well as the studies that show many young children are dumped within a few miles of the abducting site. They had no evidence of an abduction at that time, so they couldn't say they thought it was one. The search covered both scenarios and a chance to find any clues.
As the days went by, they started searching at SI. They said it was due to a tip. I believe them. Maybe from pings, a called in tip, something found, whatever. They spent a whole lot of money and time and are still searching there now, so whatever it was, it was a good one, or they found more evidence there to make them feel even more sure.
At the same time they interviewed the parents and children, twice. They searched the neighborhood again. All of this has either eliminated other possibilities for them because they found/heard about nothing else that could have come down. They have said they check out every tip they get and they get plenty. I believe them.
So, they have followed every other lead they can find, and they have looked for them well. I am sure they checked out known RSO and many other things too. But, what they have found leads them no where, or to the step mom.
Even without any evidence, they have to have their suspicions just like all of us. If we all picked up as many odd feelings from her/them, what do you think they might have picked up being around her all the time, asking questions, verifying her story? They are either finding faults or clues or are not getting the clear answers/proof they need to stop looking hard at her.
So they ask for tapes, maybe to prove what she has said, they keep questioning her, they keep narrowing the other possibilities or proving what she says is true.
They are focusing on her, as much as we can tell, while following all other leads. They put out the flier because at the time of the first two questionings it was more about, 'did you see Kyron', 'when did you see Kyron' and now it's about Terry. So they put her pictures and the truck she must have been driving on the flier to focus their minds, this is who/what we are asking you about, as well of course, about Kyron.
They need more info or answers. They need a tighter time line, they need to get evidence or eliminate suspicions. They seem to have dismissed or proven wrong the sighting of Kyron later, without her.
They are focusing on her because the lack of evidence leads them to her, or problems with her story, or evidence they may have found.
The family wouldn't be as likely to be suspicious of her until other possibilities are eliminated. Wouldn't we all like to see them together now? I think they might be feeling very differently.
It just doesn't seem odd to me anymore. As time goes on we see that many other possibilities, such as kidnapping for ransom, etc...are gone. We still have many questions that we would like answered. What was spoken by the family at the first PC was very, very weird, but I no longer think there is any big thing going on that they know that the public doesn't.
I hope we are all wrong and Kyron is home and safe soon.
All of this is MHO
